Advocates Unite to Save P.I.

Following Disney's June 27, 2008 announcement they would close Pleasure Island, a group of Disney enthusiasts, in addition to current and former Walt Disney World College Program participants, launched a number of Internet-based efforts to save P.I.

On Facebook, the Stop Disney from Closing Pleasure Island[13] and Save the Adventurer's Club[14] groups have garnered more than 5000 members since launching. One Disney supporter, Roy Hicks agreed to pay for the printing and postage of an online petition, Save a Part of Walt's Legacy Petition which asks Disney executives to reconsider the decision to close Pleasure Island, with specific emphasis on The Adventurer's Club.

An Internet radio station, SAVE P.I.: THE RADIO REVOLUTION[15] was launched by New York Times Company writer and former Walt Disney World College Program intern Brandon De Hoyos. The one-hour program features callers sharing their favorite Pleasure Island memories in addition to direct addresses to Disney CEO Bob Iger, among others.

THE FIGHT BEGINS!
RALLY THE TROOPS!
SAVE P.I.!!!!!!

I joined the group with 5000 members.

That radio show really needs callers. Most of them so far have been Disney college interns or cast members, and they really want some typical guests to call in.

There's also a Save the Adventurers Club myspace page that's helping to organize stuff, as is the Adventurers Club yahoo group.

The biggest thing they are all trying to push at this point is for people to write actual paper letters - those have more of an impact than emails and even the petitions, though of course those are good, too.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE! This is awesome news! I will join all the groups when I get done with work!

1) What about a petition for those of use who WANT to see it torn down?
2) The original idea of a bar area was good, but PI was poorly executed. *
3) Since WDW doesn't want to change it, I think tear-down is logical.
4) And, since WDW refuse to take suggestions, this is what they deserve.

* If not poorly designed and executed, why is Universal City Walk successful? Especially since they have far fewer hotel rooms and far less attendance? The answer must be that they supply what the public wants, and takes suggestions for change from time to time to keep things fresh.

ok was executed just fine in its original form. it was when theystarted making stupid decisions that things began to decline

to me just shut the place, would love more places to eat and shop

Well by that logic maybe we should get rid of the theme parks, too, and put in a few more shopping areas. Those pesky rides take up a lot of potential shopping and dining space.

Yes, the people who don't make use of the clubs at Pleasure Island would rather have shops and restaurants there. What about those of us who don't use the kiddie rides at the parks - should we campaign to get rid of them to make more room for roller coasters? Of course not. It shouldn't be an either/or situation. There should be shopping, dining, and entertainment choices available. And there should be choices that appeal to a variety of ages.

I'm not ever going to have a use for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, but I understand that it appeals to some Disney guests. I understand why it's there. The Clubs at PI appeal to other Disney guests. Why should the whole Resort be homoginised to appeal only to one type of vacationer?

I think if they refuse to listen to the paying customers who want Pleasure Island to remain open, then we should take the fight to the share holders. I am sure many shareholders are not even aware of this temendous waste of their money. Since Disney is a publically traded company, they have to provide a list of shareholders. I think this is the only plan that will work, It will have to involve stock holders and it needs constant media attention. We need this story on CNN, NBC or whatever national news it can get on to get the word out before they close it. Disney managment is going to do whatever than can to suppress the story and hope they can quietly do this before the larger masses realize what is going on. Why do you think the announcement was released late on a Friday night? They were hoping it would get very little coverage over the weekend and it would be old news by Monday morning. The last thing they want is negative publicity, so that is exactly what we need to give them!! The greater the audience, the better! I think only a major effort like the savedisney.com campain will work. If they still don't listen, then it is time to get rid of Kevin Lansberry and anyone else in upper management who supported this change.

I think another reason for the decline in favor of City Walk has a lot to do with location. I went to collage at UCF, and I can tell you we went out to City Walk all the time, simply because it was closer. I dont think I ever once went to PI as a result. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would tend to think I was not alone on that one....

Then again, maybe Disney didnt want the local college kids there in the first place......
