Advise on a prepaid cell phone- no contract

200 texts for $5 is $0.025/text. Sure beats $0.20/text by not going with a "plan".

Forgot all about that. So for one time cost of around $30 someone could get a phone, 150 minutes of talk time, and 200 texts.

Could be less if you think you don't need that many talk minutes.

Yup. We don't make many calls on cell phones, so we just pay $0.10 per minute for calls. Our phones are Android phones $5 for 200 texts and $5 to keep the data rolling over each month (mostly use wifi.)

Every now and then I do have to add 1000 texts for $10, more often on Wifey's than mine.

Just remember, no matter which phone you choose, you will be in Florida (not your local area) so you will be charged roaming and long-distance. I also recomend getting one that you can text on, as the parks can be loud and difficult to hear a phone conversation.

What cellphone companies still charge for roaming ? I have a prepaid T-Mobile togo and have never had to worry about roaming in metropolitan areas.

I have virgin mobile phones. I don't pay roaming, but then again the plan I have doesn't exist anymore. With virgin mobile basic plan $90 gets you service for a year. My DD had a net10 phone prior to Christmas. She paid $.10 a minute for calls and $.05 per text. Her phone didn't have roaming charges, but some net10 phones did. I called them, to find out, before she purchased it. Now, DD has a tmobile monthly 4G plan. The rate is $15 a month for unlimited text and $.10 a minute for calls. Most kids these days text anyway. Also, for $100 you can have service for a year.
