We are supposed to leave for Disney October 7. I’ve never been in a situation where a hurricane hits the week before vacation. Do you think there will be any issues by then that could prevent us from going? Should I be looking for a plan b? 😬 Thanks so much! Praying for everyone in the path of this!

We went right after Irma in 2017 - cruise first and then a week at the parks. There was some minimal impact the first few days there as they continued to clean up. There were a LOT of trees down. We had Caring for Giants booked and it was canceled because they were still cleaning up backstage areas. The Jungle Cruise was closed the first few days we were there. So, there may be some minor things but Disney has a plan and takes care of things fairly quickly.

This is a historic storm (now category 5) with the potential to pass directly over Orlando, albeit weakened by then. Any responses you get here telling you what DW is going to be like a week later are guessing.

I would wait until a day or 2 after the storm passes Orlando to read damage assessment reports and when various things are projected to reopen. Wind damage from falling trees could take out power lines. Flooding can cause road closures and also damage infrastructure. Some things are easier to fix then others. No one can estimate potential damage before the storm hits.

We rode out Hurricane Jeanne in an All Star Room. 24+ hours waiting it out in a lockout room(s) with our In-Laws. Many trees and branches down around the resort. The road into Epcot lost lots of trees, but the park itself was ok. The entrance to Hollywood Studios lost a couple Palm trees.
Next day Magic Kingdom had a delayed opening, 10 am front of park and 11 or so the back half. There wasn't even a leaf on the ground. Didn't even know there was a storm.

Given Disney's history with hurricanes and clean-up, I would as of right now move ahead as normal. I think you'll be surprised that you see little to no changes at Disney a week after Ian goes through. It's not supposed to take a direct hit (as of now) and, has a hurricane plan that is unlike many others.

I remember talking to a dad on a flight once who had just dropped his son off for the DCP. Even though he worked in as a lifeguard and there were no hurricanes in the forecast, he knew exactly where he would be deployed and what he would be responsible for once the water park he was at was secured for the storm. CMs often know exactly what their roles will be in case of a hurricane and Disney has an entire plan in place that begins days before the storm is thought to hit.

I agree. Right now Orlando looks to be in the path of the strongest winds and heaviest rainfall. WDW should recover quickly. The question will be, how is it outside the bubble?

It’s going to have to get way worse way fast for there to be any lasting impact beyond 24 hours much less anything more than that. And that’s as of 6pm.
As I mentioned, without a crystal ball it’s impossible to say only stating that so far there’s been no impact even as it’s moving closer.
can it get bad fast? sure. Anything can happen. So be alert and flexible. But odds are not high at all that it will impact things next week. You aren’t talking about arriving a few hours after it’s moved through

heck, we plan horror nights on Friday and Saturday (for now). That’s well before the 5th

look, this just popped up on my phone, says right here, gonna stop raining soon 😂
Now probably gonna start right back again but that’s another story, right 🙈

I'm heading down the week after you and I just realized it never crossed my mind that I wouldn't go.

As others have said Disney has been known to completely clean up before you wake from a storm. But this storm is different, it is big and is predicted to be a big impact on Orlando. The only thing that I think could impact your Disney trip is if there was any substantial damage to say the Skyliner or damage to a building where an attraction gets closed or infrastructure damage or electrical damage to something. I think it would have to be HUGE to impact your trip substantially but you might see some adjustments, might see some missing trees, maybe some walkways closed. Disney does do their best to get things back rolling quickly. Many things are built to withstand a hurricane (did you know the Tree of Life is an oil rig so it could withstand?) and they do things like put away anything that could fly loose or big signs that fold down. They can't afford not to be prepared for the storm and prepared to reopen quickly.

Also depends on where you are staying, offsites might not be as quick to repair ... but if you are on property and plan to pretty much stay there I think you'll be fine.

PS Ignore trolls, your question is valid.
