Advice!!!!!!!!

I agree, too. I know it's just a matter of time before the PC people jump on and tell us how awful we all are, but I want to get my two cents in first.

I hate, hate, hate when people use "since" instead of "sense". example: She had no common since. :confused3 Do you not know the word SENSE?

The contraction thing gets me, too. I also hate when people put apostrophes when there should be none. Example: There was ton's of food . Argh!

Thanks for letting me vent.;)

Advise/advice has always been a big pet peeve of mine, but then again, I have lots of pet peeves about spelling and grammar (with an A not an E) LOL!

I could go on and on about this topic, but I will bow out gracefully :thumbsup2

Sure there is... I point the remote at the tv to channel surf & have it on mute at the time :rotfl2:

Ack! Okay, you are right. There is such a thing as a "mute point", but most people use it incorrectly. :lmao: Someone even defended the phrase to me on here before. She said she did mean "mute" rather than "moot", because she was referring to a phrase that falls on deaf ears. It was a creative way to defend her misuse of words, at least. If we're going to mangle the phrase, I greatly prefer the term "Moo point".

Funny- I thought you were asking for advice, and I was coming on this thread to thank you for spelling it correctly.

Maybe it's too early, but I don't get what you are trying to say. Would've is a contraction for would have so of course it makes sense. Unless you are making a joke, in which case I am blonde so I apologize for not getting it :lmao:

it isn't the contraction that is the problem, its the fact that people say, "would of" instead of "would have."

The school principal. Remember, he is your pal but not a pal. Also not principle.

Oh good, there's two threads like this...

Like I said on the other one... some people are good at some things, some people are not-so-good at them. Luckily for most of the people posting on here, the things you're not-so-good at aren't on public display for people to nitpick.

I advice you to take my advise - oh wait scratch that reverse it.

:lmao: me too! My first thought was "someone knows there's a C in advice!" Most people here seem to use them interchangably.

Spelling errors don't bug me very much, everyone makes those - but word usage ones do. This one is just plain used incorrectly here all the time and it surprises me every time.

Mouse House Mama, would you like to start a school with me? We could also teach how to count back change from a $20.

:lmao: I blame my childhood roots when I am using improper words. Brooklynese-"anyways" and fall into starting my sentences with " Just so you know...." I say those two ALL the time

my kids threaten that on my headstone they will have written " Anyways Just so you know she has gone on to heaven..."

I completely agree. It's so frustrating to see some of the errors and "creative" spellings, especially when we see the same ones over and over again!

Here are a few that irritate me the most that I don't think I've seen listed yet. :teacher:

It's probably, not prolly

It's especially, not expecially

It's fiancee, not finance

It's anyone, not ne1

And finally, it's love, not luv and to, not 2. Yes, I do see the irony in this, and I would give anything if I could change my user name and not lose my posting numbers! :lmao: I'm still considering it! :rolleyes1

I'll agree with all of them except fiance (which of course is different from what you put: finance.) Fiancee refers to a female, fiance refers to a male. Of course, here is the US, we tend to use fiance to refer to both.

Wow, I never knew this! I just Googled it and you're exactly right!

I learned something new today!

It's espresso not expresso.

I spend more time than I should reading in coffee shops and most people get this one wrong. :rolleyes1

I admit my grammar and punctuation leave little bit to be desired. Spelling mistakes drive me over the edge. Spelling was drilled into my head in school. Another one that drives me nuts is vacay, it is a vacation.
