Hi everyone! Trying to lose weight is A LOT easier said than done! This is SO hard. All I want to lose is 15lbs. That's not a lot, but how do I do it. Now, I'm going to tell you how much I weigh, how tall I am, and my age. When I tell anyone this info they tend to laugh & say I don't need to lose weight, I'm fine the way I am. Well, I don't think so. Anyway. I'm 24yrs old, I'm 5ft nothing, and I weigh about 115lbs. I know, that's not a lot. However, I went from 100lbs to 115lbs in less than a year! Thats bad. And of course it went all to one area, so it looks worse. My thighs, my hips, & my rear. My stomach is fine, my arms & legs are fine, every other part of my body is fine. I'm short & it looks funny in the places that I got bigger. My clothes are no longer fitting me. I don't know what to do. I go out to get bigger sizes, but they don't fit either. Too big or too tight. I'm at a loss. I would never say that I'm "fat" but I did get bigger. I use to be able to eat whatever I wanted & gain nothing. Now I gain it all. Eating is my problem. I eat, a lot. Mostly at one time. I rarely eat breakfast, maybe have a small lunch, but at dinner I eat a lot. I go out to eat a lot also, not fast food, but restaurants. I rarely eat junk food, so that's not a problem giving up. This past weeks I have been trying to eat better but it's hard. I'm a VERY picky eater! The only vegetables I will eat are green beans, corn, & once in awhile carrots (only if they're cooked). The only fruit I will eat are bananas, and once in a blue moon an apple, but that's rarely. So eating healthy is a problem for me. I don't know what to do. Sorry this is so long, I just needed everyone to understand so you all can hopefully give me some advice. Thanks for listening.

Hi

I know what you are going through. I am only 5'2" and our small frames show each and every added pound!!

The two most sensible eating lifestyles I have found are Weight Watchers and South Beach Diet. It depends on how much you love your carbs. Weight Watchers focuses on allowing you to eat everything BUT in smaller (or normal) portions. SB diet does away with most carbs and focuses on low fat proteins.

Which appeals to you? I am starting the WW online tomorrow because it is too difficult staying on SB with my family.

Portion Control and Exercise is IMPORTANT!!

Good Luck and let us know how you are doing:wave: :sunny:

This weight-loss thing is not easy. I'm 5'3 1/2" and I've struggled with my weight since getting married 16 years ago. (Do I blame him - well yes!) Currently I'm in plateau land loss wise so my advice to you is what I'm currently trying to do.

Spread out your food intake - you must eat regular small meals or snacks. Your body adjusts that way it holds onto it's reserves based on what and when you give it fuel. You need to break the cycle of eating a lot, all at one or two meals.

Eating healthy - you may go the weight watchers route but many of my friends who do WW report that they are hungry and always saving points for a "good" reward. I stay on a low-carb plan - not quite as full-fat oriented as Atkins but I don't eat as many carbs as South Beach allows. I lose weight in spurts - inches first - pounds second. Low-carb eating keeps my previous low-blood sugar level in check. I'm never hungry. I have lots of energy! And all the protein in my diet has my hair and nails growing at rapid rate!

Excercise - this is a must. Find something you can do on a daily basis. I like to walk for 30-45-60 minutes/day depending upon my daily schedule. If you have a target area you'd like to reduce, do cardio plus pilates. (Reminds me that I need to add pilates back into my schedule.)

Don't get discouraged...many on this board will tell you that the closer they got to goal weight, the slower the weight came off. You are starting your journey where many are ending theirs.

Thanks a lot for your input. It really helps to know that I'm not the only one out there with the same problem. Still don't know which route I'm going to take. Neither one of them are easy, not that I expect any diet to be easy! WW would be hard because I eat big portions, so trying to eat smaller portions will be difficult. The carb diet would be hard because I eat a lot of carbs. However, I'm not too familiar with any of the carb diets, what not to eat and what I can eat. Maybe I could try doing a little of both. I don't know, this is confusing. As soon as I get back from my trip to DW I am going to start back at the gym, Lucille Roberts. I joined in February & lasted about a month or so. I'm bad. I have absolutely NO motivation. And being around my boyfriend, who loves to eat eat eat, is no help. I'm trying to get him to start dieting also, but that hard! Anyway. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep you informed!

Danielle:

When are eating with a man it is hard not to match bite for bite.(sorry guys but for a lot of women this is true) I've named it competition eating. We females don't need a male's caloric intake but when we sit down and consume a meal, we often have as much to eat as our boyfriends or husbands and at their pace. (yes, many of eat really really fast too.)

This is a really hard habit to break. Ask your boyfriend to slow down and have a conversation with your meals. Start with a small salad or broth kind of soup and make sure you get a whole glass of water down during that first course. This will help tell your tummy that it's getting full. You won't need to eat as much rich foods to feel satisfied.

But you did'nt mention what your drinking? I'd like to know that. Also if your eating mostly food and not junk where's your down fall? Bread, butter, meat? I would like to help you out so if you describe a typical supper out at your favorite place maybe some advise could be offered to help you out. Best wishes.

We tend to eat out a lot at Steak places. So I usually have a 9oz piece of steak along with mashed potatoes or baked potato. And I always have a salad first, I have actually been dipping my salad in the dressing because I have heard that's a good thing to do.

What am I drinking? I drink LOTS of water! All the time. Once in a blue moon I'll drink a soda, not diet. I don't like soda at all really, so that's a good thing.

I also eat a lot of chinese food. I usually get a combination platter, usually chicken w/broccoli or peppersteak, both with pork fried rice. However, my downfall w/ this is I don't eat the broccoli & I don't eat the peppers! I don't like them. Like I said before, I am a VERY picky eater!

If I eat dinner at home I usually make spaghetti w/ a meat sauce, all different types of chicken, most of the time lemon pepper chicken (fried) along w/ mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, and usually the chicken pasta sides (noodles) And of course I eat some of everything.

I know I have to change my eating habits, but it is so hard to do that when I don't like much health foods. I blame this on my mother because she never gave healthy foods to us as kids. I don't know why. I know she hates to cook. The only time anyone in my house eats a home cooked meal is if I cook. But the family situation is another LONG story in itself.

Thanks for the advice.

I don't think your down fall is what your eating it's how much your eating of it. Why not split your order with your husband friends, or co workers? Or ask for a take out box and put half of you lunch/dinner in it before you ever touch your plate. That way if you eat everything you want have all the gulit and you'll be so proud of yourself for not having the enitire meal. Save it take it to work the next day, give it to your friends or your dog if you have one. Like on your 9oz steak cut it in half and just eat 4.5 oz's. That's great on the salads but why not try to find a ff itlain dressing that you like and keep a bottle with you if you eat out that much. I love krafts ff zesty itlain you actaully do get use to it and it's packed with flavor and not fat. Instead of the mashed potatoes how bout a bean, or greens like baked beans, green beans, or turnips something like that. If none of those things work with what you eat just eat half of what you order but i would suggest you open your variety up eating two starches like that at sitting has to pack a carb hi to you. :) Let us know how you do and for water drink all you can stand atleast half your body weight. Best Wishes.
