I plan on tipping $2.oo for each person in our party each day. SO thats 6.00 a day I figure that is pretty good... I am also going to add something extra from our state.. I have a magnet, keychain and spoon that all say Texas on it so each day I will leave one in the envelope. 47 days and counting :cheer2:

I'm curious to see what others do, as I know it varies quite a bit from person to person and region to region.
I was planning to set aside $5 a day and we are a family of 4. (DH, me, dd6mos, ds3)

I know I maybe going under the knife for saying this but we don't tip housekeeping. It is part of their job and it seems sometimes in this world we start tipping everyone for everything. Do you tip when you stay at a regular hotel or just at disney for some reason?

i have tipped before, but only at the end of my stay. i dont want to seem like a big jerk though. i was surprised to read that so many people tip each night!!

Our last family getaway I tipped at the end of the stay... Then it dawned on me who's to say we had the same service person every day... So I decided then to start tipping each morning when we left the hotel..

Generally when we are staying in a resort type situation/vacation we tip. If it's just a regular motel/hotel then we do not. :flower:

i'm from australia and we don't tip here..... why do you tip ppl if it is their job... i mean i understand giving some one a tip if they go out of their way for you but why tip someone for just doing what they always do? i'm not trying to be rude just curious...

Hi everyone  , we tipped last year every day because we could have a different mousekeeper everyday. Almost every afternoon we came back from the parks there were animals made out of the wash cloths. My kids really enjoyed coming back to the room to see if anything was left. What a wonderful surprise. And I know they are only doing there jobs but they do clean up after us and it shows we appreciate someone taking care of us for an extended amount of time. I usually tip between 2 and 3 a day. And my kids offer to tip also. They appreciate the extra attention....

Our first trip in 2000 we didn't tip. Last week I did do $5.00 a day for our family of 5. I don't know that we got anything more then we would have without a tip but on the our arrival housekeeping was cleaning the room next to ours and I asked for a couple of pillows and an extra blanket, it wasnt to long before she had brought us what we asked for and couldn't have been more friendly. knowing she would be cleaning our room for the next week made it easy to leave the tip out each morrning. I talked to her three days later and she told me she worked 6 day a week and had been doing so for the last month.

My husband made up a card on the computer that said "For our mousekeeper" and we would leave her 2.00 a day!! We always got a reply back saying thank you!! ::MickeyMo

I am from the good 'ol USA and I wonder the same thing. Most will say it is because they are cleaning up after you.

In all actuallity, if it hasn't changed, the housekeepers at WDW are not considered to be in a tipped position.

For those who do choose to tip. The guideline that seems to be the most widely used (here on the Dis at least) is $1 per person per day paid daily.

You don't seem like a jerk for tipping at the end. But you probably should consider tipping daily. The reason I tip every day is because you might not have the same housekeeper every day. So if you wait till the end of your stay, you may be giving the full tip to someone that was there say only 4 of 7 days. What of the assistant who did the other 3 days? And what if you had the same housekeeper for your entire stay but you end up leaving on her day off? Hence tipping daily makes sure you get the tip to the person doing it each day.

I leave the tip in a little envelope taped to the door with Housekeeping printed on it. If I have a request like please leave an extra towel or something like that, I put it in a note in the envelope.

I tip $2 per day per bed. If I leave the place fairly untidy, I throw in an extra dollar or two. I tip daily, including the day I leave, except check in day.

Housekeeping's job is to change the linens and empty the rubbishbins. Most go well above and beyond that and tidy up my things for me. So I tip em.

Even at the standard minimum wage, these girls cannot make ends meet here. And waiters are at their own special subminimum wage. How that got through years ago, I don't want to know (hint bribes errrrr I mean campaign contributions to the proper lawmakers) They depend on tips for a substantial portion of their income.

It's just customary here at standard or better hotels to tip the maids and porters. At the budget motels, tipping is alot more spotty. But I do it anyway.

we always tip if we are in any hotel not only Disney area. Learnt to tip since I was 5 from my dad....

We leave a tip at hotels/motels/and resorts so I guess we tip everywhere! :)

Usually we leave about $4-5 per day and we do realize that this is not considered a "tipped" position, but I figure if someone is cleaning up my mess and making sure the toilet is clean, etc...it doesn't hurt me to leave a small tip each day.

What others have said about tipping daily is correct, your housekeeper isn't working 7 days a week all the time, so if you want to tip then leave something each day, not just at check-out. They appreciate it and some will leave a small note to say "thanks".

ok, i'm beginning to realise that there is a lot to be thankful for here in Australia. Our minimum wages are, even for cleaners, liveable if u work a average 38 hour week. cleaners are usually casual employees here, which means that they don't get paid holidays or sick leave but instead get a loading paid on top of their hourly rate. many adults (21 and over for our award rates) are paid $10AUD or more an hour. This just adds to the list of reasons that while i love the USA i don't think i ever want to live there.....

along with the health care situation (here we have free hospital care in public hospitals, no matter how much you earn) the welfare situation (as long as you look for a job here, the government will pay you the dole, you have to filli in forms to say that you did... but really there is no reason that an one who is able to work but down on their luck should be homeless here...).... the lack of Tim TAms..... :)

but i love to visit you guys...

Tipping does seem to be getting out of control in the USA, I see a tip jar at my drive-thru Starbucks! Sorry, I am not tipping there. I see a tip jar at a local restaurant at the counter when you are paying your bill. Sorry I don't tip there either. I leave a tip for the wait staff back at my table! I'm not tipping the person who is taking my money and putting it in the cash drawer. I have always tipped at every hotel, motel and resort we've ever stayed at. It's just proper etiquette in this country. You must remember that these people are in your room with all your stuff! Better to show appreciation for them cleaning your room by leaving a tip each day.

Errrr, I may be sorry for posting this, but... we tip at Disney because we've found when we don't, the room is clean but there are no extras.. like the little animals from the washrags (sorry, we're from the South) or the stuffed animals arranged really cute on the bed etc. Those things mean a lot to the kids (and heck to DH and I too!) so we don't mind paying a little extra. We leave it daily on the television, in a special envelope and I let the kids write a little note on it.

BTW, we do tip at other hotels too, but only at the end and only if we are staying for an extended period of time.

I always thought anyone that provides a service should be tipped.

Anyways...What about tipping on the dining plan? I think it says tips are included? Ill want to tip and my DH will not!
