Advice on ticket

We have a summer trip planned for my dd’s graduation. We are allowing her to take a friend, which will mean purchasing a $600+ ticket for the friend (my family has AP’s).

My question is does Disney open up more fast passes at the 30 day window? I’m hesitant to purchase a ticket that expensive just yet not knowing if the park will even be open.

If you buy a hard ticket (not an e-ticket) from Undercover Tourist, you can return it if not used. That could be an option. I'm not sure of what the status of fast passes will be- people who are booking now for June are having difficulty (doesn't seem to be a wide variety)

Not to my knowledge. They do release day-of fastpasses that you can pick up if you are diligent on the app while at the parks. Fastpass availability also changes as people change their trip plans, or cancel. But I do not believe they add more to the pool before the day of.

Also - fastpass availability isn't going to be a guarantee of the parks opening - not sure why that would be a deciding factor in purchasing the ticket? Disney can make a decision to keep the parks closed even if FP have been booked, they will just cancel them.

Would rather not spend the money until it gets closer to see if any big announcements about further closure. If we don’t make this trip, not sure when we can go back and I’ll be holding a ticket that I may not be able to use anytime soon I’m just wondering if I wait does Disney release more FP.

Gotcha. Yeah no they don't release more fastpasses at the 30 day mark, but they do often drop extra FP the day of depending on capacity and flow of guests. As far as tickets go, UT does allow refunds with a 5% restocking fee up to 90 days after purchase. Just request a hard ticket instead of an E-ticket (choose the "mailed to your door" option). If you purchase the extra ticket right around 90 days before your trip, you can hold onto it until closer to the trip and return it if needed.
