Advice on how to celebrate no more thumbsucking?

Looking for creative advice from the experts - DH and I told DD that we would take her to Disney over Labor Day if she stopped sucking her thumb. She's been so close and had all but given up until we offered this carrot. Now she's determined to stop and so excited about the upcoming trip. She doesn't burst into tears when we catch her with her thumb in her mouth, now she grins and dries it off for Mickey.

What I'm looking for is a neat way to celebrate this difficult achievement in Disney. I know they do birthdays, anniversarys, etc...any ideas? This has been such a difficult habit for DD to break and as a former thumbsucker I know how hard she's worked. My parents had to threaten me to get me to stop.

Thanks for the ideas! Oh, should mention she's 5 next week.

I am going to WDW on August 5th. (No idea when labour day is sorry, I live in UK). I could send a card from a character saying well done or similar. If you want me to do this and the timing is right :confused3 please send a pm with your details and I shall send the card.

:cool1: Good for her! My parents are the sweetest folks in the world, really they are. I was a thumb sucker and I can remember them trying to get me to stop....it was a failure until dear old Dad used some sort of burning ( probably a cinnamon/peppermint mixture) ointment on my thumb. :scared1: Didn't do it so much after that, the threat was enough...heehee...It has been probably 36years since then and I am sure it is no longer on the market. You post just made me think of it and laugh. I think you are fabulous for doing something special. I would mention it every time I got the chance, on the bus, at the character meal, to Cinderella....wherever...at least for the first day or so..

What a thoughtful and generous suggestion! That was so nice of you - I appreciate it and it gave me a wonderful idea. I can probably get some post cards with Disney characters and "send" her cards of encouragement.

Thank you for the inspiration!

How about one of those huge all-day suckers from Goofy's Candy Shop?

I was a thumb sucker. I didn't stop until I was in college. Long story....

What if you have a special cake delivered at one of your meals with Mickey giving a thumbs up on it? Or, could you have a CM get a princess to make a fuss about how she has taken one more step towards royalty by giving up her thumb. Another cute photo would be to have her pointing her finger and scolding the character Prince John with him sucking his thumb all she should have to do is mention his mommy and he should pop that thumb right in his mouth, because he is a big immature crybaby. lol

Of course, there is the whole customized t-shirt thing. I am sure that someone on the Creative DISigns board would love to help you with that, if you don't have the tools to do it all by yourself.

Good luck! :thumbsup2

we did an enchanted phone call for my ds when he got potty trained for disney. It's on the disney website.

I don't have any Disney suggestions, but we just went through this with our almost 5 year old, too. His promised reward was a fish tank and a trip to Chuck E Cheese. He really gutted through it like a champ - I could see how hard it was for him. Good for your DD!
