Hi everyone! I'm planning a our first family vacation to WDW in September 2011 with our two daughters 4 and 2 years old. I have a couple questions for anyone that would like to help. We are so excited but I was reading that some attractions may be closed. What exactly will be closed in September? Will Fantasyland be open? Also, at what time at night does the fireworks go off at magic kingdom? How hot is it in September? And does anyone have any tips in general for visiting the various parks, attractions, dinning, must-dos etc? I haven't been there for 20 years so I know a lot has changed!

First things first, Welcome to the Disboards. It’s a great site for planning and getting information on all things Disney.
The weather for September is highs in the 80’s and lows in the 70’s, but those are averages found here : http://www.weather.com/weather/wxcl...l&onended=null&onemptied=null&onprogress=null
You might want to look into a couple of cheap umbrella strollers or something that is easy to folded up and get on the bus (unless you have a car). You really need to look at your dinning plans and get your ADRs in, some of the character meals you may not get now (sorry). You can find menu’s here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining.htm and here: http://allears.net/din/dining.htm Both very informative. Most of Fantasyland will be open, but they are under construction. Hours can be checked here: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/calendars/ What is closed can be check there also. Well this should give you a good start and if you post more info on what you might want to do and the type of budget you are on there will be a list of things everyone on the Disboard will help you with. Check the sites and get your ADRs done soon so you can get some nice meals in.

Have a great time.:dance3:

Mickey's ToonTown is now closed and the Enchanted Tiki Room will be closed until next year due to a fire, but pretty much everything else should be open. Mouseplanet.com does a weekly closing list, so just check it on Mondays and it will give you any scheduled closures or refrubishments. For Fireworks, Parade and Park Hours/Schedules you need to look at the offical WDW calendar on their website. We have been twice in September and it is HOT, very, very hot. I know the previous post indicated averages in the 80s, but we have never found that to be the case, it's usually in the upper 90s and extremely humid. It is still extremely hot in September so you need to prepare yourselves for the heat. The only reason we have gone twice in September is because that's when they normally offer the free dining discount and the savings was worth going in the heat.

How many days are you going to be in the parks? Are you on the Disney Dining Plan? It doesn't sound like ya'll have done a lot of planning yet, so I would highly recommend that you pick up The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World or at the very least join their website, www.touringplans.com. I use their Best Days/Crowd Calendar to plan our park days and then plan our Advance Dining Reservations around those park days. Your ADR window opened up in March, so there will be limited seating left at the Character meals and popular places. Once you decide on your park days, I would suggest going to the WDW site and doing a blanket search of the park or resort area you will be at on a particular day and see what availability they have left.

Here are some tips for people new to touring WDW:

1. Make sure you have Advance Dining Reservations for any Sit Down/Table Service/Character Meals as you will be at WDW during the Free Dining Promo and the restaurants will be packed and will not be taking walk-ups.

2. Get to the parks at opening. You really can get a lot done in the morning because so many other people sleep in.

3. Eat lunch around 11:00 or 11:30 a.m. before the fast food places get busy. Then when while everyone else is eating lunch, you will have lower crowds.

4. I buy a ton of the two for a dollar ponchos at the dollar store and keep them in the backpack. That way you can throw them a way after use and not worry about keeping up with a wet bulky poncho the rest of the day. Bring throw away ponchos to wear on Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom, if not you WILL get soaked.

5. Other things I put in the backpack each morning are Tylenol/Motrin, small first aid kit, camera with extra batteries, small hand towel, hand sanitizer, wipes and a bottle of water.

6. Most single service items under $4.00 are considered a snack credit on the Disney dining plan. (This doesn't apply to you since you are staying off-site)

7. At Magic Kingdom always head to Fantasyland first, if you are not doing Fantasyland on a particular day then head to Splash Mountain first, then Big Thunder Mountain; at Epcot always ride Soarin' first and get a Fastpass for later after you get off of the ride; at Disney Hollywood Studios always ride Toy Story Mania first, then head over to Rockin' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror; and at Animal Kingdom ride Expedition Everest First then head to the Safari.

8. Favorite fast food restaurants at MK are Pecos Bills and Cosmic Rays; favorite fast food at Animal Kingdom is Flame Tree Grill and Pizzafari. If you are there while it very hot, go to Pizzafari.

9. If there are two lines going into an attraction, always take the line that goes to the left.

10. My best tip would have to be USE THE FASTPASS SYSTEM. Our rule of thumb is if the wait is 25 minutes or less, we wait in line. If the wait is 30 minutes or more, use a Fastpass. It is not highly publicized, but your Fastpass does not expire until the end of the day. You can never use it before the return time stamp on the pass, but you can always use it after. We try to collect Fastpasses during the early part of the day and then use them later in the afternoon when the parks become more crowded.

Click on this link from fellow Diser Doconeill and it will give you an excellent overview of Fastpass. It is from Doconeil over on the Disboards and super helpful:

If you still don't understand, just let me know your specific questions.

11. I like the Photopass. You can pre-buy it before your trip for $99.00. When you enter the parks you will see the staff photographers, they will take your pictures and give you a Photopass and you can use that for the rest of your trip. Each time you see a photographer have them take your picture and they will scan your picture. Then when you get home you can pull up the pictures, with the code they email you after purchase, and pick the photos you want on a CD. They will then mail you the CD and the copyrights to the CD and you can take them to Walmart or Walgreens or wherever and get them developed. They also have a lot of cool software that you can use to edit your photos before you have them put on the CD.

My favorite Disney planning sites are:

Welcome to the Disboards and happy planning! :wizard:

It's very very hot in Sept. The numbers weren't too bad like low to mid 90's but the humidity and all made it nearly unbearable. I got there at rope drop in the mornings and started gathering fastpasses as soon as I could. You can get one I think every 50 or 55 minutes. I would grab a fastpass then go ride things like Winnie the pooh and the Carousel and Fantasyland rides until it was time I could grab another fast pass. By 1230 I had 5 FP's for later, and we would break for lunch and retreat to our hotel for lunch and a swim and nap or rest. You will need the break for the kiddos as well as yourself, so do take it. We stayed and rested until about 5 pm then hit the parks again until closing. I would recommend staying in an onsite resort that is much easier to get back and forth with less hassle. You will have your hands full with the girls already. Your older one would enjoy the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, For around $36 they will fix her hair and makeup to look like a Disney princess. Buy the princess dress though before you go and take it with you for her to wear if you are going to do that. The dresses for sale in the Disney shops are rather expensive. We only did 2 ADR's our whole trip, it is easier for us just to stop when and where we are ready to eat not stick to a schedule that may or may not be convenient at the time. Just know beforehand that WDW is a huge place and there is more to see and do than you are going to have time for no matter what, so you'll need to get familiar with what's offered so you can choose the things most appealing to you and your family. We stayed at the All Star Music Resort and had a wonderful trip, it had a nice pool for the kids too and a small wading pool for your youngest daughter. The do sell swim diapers there if you forget to bring your own. There is so much to tell you I just don't have enough words, but just go and have fun! NO matter what you do or don't do, you'll be at WDW and it can and most likely will be exhausting but serious FUN.

Welcome to the boards!

When looking for advice you came to the right place. There is a lot of support and a lot of information to find here. That being said, PrincessTiffany has given you some great info to start.

I have only visited in late Aug/early Sept (one other time in early Oct) and I can tell you that it is hot! You can offset the heat by going to the indoor attractions during the peak sun/heat hours, taking a couple walking detours through the shops (and if you can, go back to your resort for an afternoon break). For the most part, the indoor attractions and all of the shops air-conditioned.

As much as PrincessTiffany likes going in Sept because of the Free Dining promos, I like going in Sept because of the crowds, or lack there of. Last year, I was there the first week of Sept and our longest waits were between 20 mins and 30 mins; and that didn't happen too often. Our average wait was probably under 15 mins.

With your kids being 4 and 2 yrs old, I highly recommend checking the ride restrictions/height requirements for each park. This will give you an idea on what rides you can go on with your kids and which areas of the park to focus on.

For the Big Kids' rides, use the FastPass system and/or the "baby swap". This will allow one parent to go on the ride, while the other hangs out with the kids. My son was too little to go on some of the rides that was daughter was able to go on last year, but, he had as much fun playing & exploring amongst the surroundings while we waited.

Overall, don't let vast amount of information be intimidating. The information can only serve as a guide. When it comes time for your visit, go with the flow and remember to take a moment to let it all soak in.

Enjoy your trip!

One thing that is important to do is get a schedule of the parks and their extended hours. Some open early and some stay open late. Also, I was just there last week and the fireworks at Magic Kingdom went off at 10:00. Fantasmic in hollywood studios is fabulous too. Two shows a night. Have fun.

Welcome to the board! Have a great trip to WDW also!!

September is a wonderful time to go!

Is there any furthur news on Enchanted Tiki Room that it will be opened any time later.
