advice needed please

a bit of advice needed please, i am going to finally book this weekend for the frst week in october (4 nights & 5 days) and wondered if anyone could advise the best and cheapest way to book please, i have a 8 and 3 y/o and are planning on staying at seqioua lodge. I would also like to book the kids a character meal and just wondered would breakfast or lunch be the better option and where is the best place to book for the most characters, sorry for all the questions

We have always found the best way to book is by calling Disney direct for our hotel and park tickets, and then booking our travel separately.

We Love Cafe Mickey for character meals, breakfast there is lovely and we have always seen plenty of characters, we also have made a little tradition of eating there on our last evening to end on a high, there have been a few negative reviews about it but we have always found it fab

we have always booked the hotel with disney direct and booked the flights seperate but this time we have booked flights through disney. We booked early and got a good deal.

As for character meals, we always go to cafe mickey when we arrive for lunch. We get a autograph book and pen from the hotel shop before we go and get to meet a few characters before we get into the park to save time queing and avoiding the srums. We always book for our last night aswell. We have always been lucky meeting a few characters in there but reading the latest reviews it seems as if they have cut back on the amount of characters in there at one time.

We have been to Inventions once for dinner with the characters which we really enjoyed but a bit pricey and when we go in october we are going to try cowboy cookout for the character lunch.

Thanks for your replies, one more question please, is it best to book for the character meals before you go or when you get there. Is it a set price as read somewhere there are two options of what you can eat

we love character meals. We didn't have a good experience at cafe Mickey but others who went at a slightly different time did so I think we were just unlucky.

inventions was fab but very expensive we only went there for an anniversary treat.

cowboy cookout was brilliant too the characters danced with the kids. food wasn't very exciting pretty much take out food. It was good value.

I always book before we go as it's part of my planning excitement and if you have very specific time or day requirements it might be best to avoid disappointment. Having said that we have always been able change reservations once there no prolem.

We book before we go. I look into the park closing times and times of parades etc and work round that. A few times we have tried to book when we got there and where left dissapointed when cafe mickey was either fully booked or the times we wanted were not available.

We havent been since 2009 but I've booked from Ireland (also for sequoia lodge) for our trip Aug 20th (2 adults and 1 child age 7), i booked the flights myself and booked hotel and tickets through the disneyland website, for me it worked out about 300 euros cheaper than what the travel agent quoted me, as for character meals we do like cafe mickey it had all the originals such as mickey, minnie, pluto and donald etc and we are the sort that dont like to be tied to too much on hols so the 1st day we land i usually go to the reception desk in cafe mickey and see what they have free for the few days that we're there we have never not got a reservation and its always been good fun, we've only ever eaten there for dinner so im afraid i cant advise on which is better breakfast/lunch although personally if had to choose id go for breakfast and i know that buffet breakfasts there costs 24.50 for adult and 16.50 euros for kids
