I have long hair and I'm sick of pulling it back for lack of time. I have a 1 1/2 year old baby and 6 year old to take care of, which leaves me no time for even blow drying it!

Remember our mothers using curlers in their wet hair? I'm wondering if I got some of those curlers and rolled my wet hair, left it in (in the evening) until dry, if that would create nice, wavy hair.

Why doesn't anyone use those curlers anymore?

Any advice from stylists out there, or anyone else?

Thank you!

I had the same problem for a different reason. I hurt my arm; I’m having surgery next month. But I can’t use my arm to fix my hair. It hurts too much. I have long hair too. I got a spiral perm. I LOVE it. I don’t have to do anything to it. It’s easier for me to shower at night. So each morning I just get it wet and leave. I don’t use a brush or a pick. AND it looks great too!! I went online before getting a perm and took pictures with my phone of perms I liked and disliked. I showed all the pictures to my stylist before the perm. I got large spiral curls.

I hope you find something that works for you, Good Luck.

Thank you! Is there anyway you can find a picture of what your hair style looks like?

One more thing, it took my stylist two times to get it right. The first perm didn’t work. If you decide to get a perm make sure you are happy with it, if not say something. Perms aren’t cheap. It’s over $100 for a cut and perm in my area.

I have long hair (mid back) but no children. I find it's best just to put my hair up in a ponytail or in a braid if I'm doing something and don't want my hair to intervene!

I curl the ends of my hair w/ sponge rollers. It takes maybe 5 minutes at most each night and then in the morning I take them out and finger comb or comb with a wide-toothed code. One tip: you don't need to use many rollers - I use 4 medium-sized (the pink color) and I have a good bit of hair. The results are very pretty - nice soft waves at the ends.

When I go out, I sometimes want a little more curl so I'll spot-curl it with a flat iron. It's a bit tricky to get the hang of, but the results are beautiful and it can be done quickly - much faster than hot rollers or a curling iron.

ETA: I curl my hair when it is DRY. If you use sponge rollers on wet hair, it'll take forever to dry and you'd probably wind up with a kinky mess. Dry hair curls just fine.

Do you wash or wet your hair before putting in the sponge rollers? Do they bother you at all to sleep in?

Thanks!

It is cut into nice layers but I want to keep it long.

I agree-keep it long! Short hair is extremely high maintenance and ends up just looking triangular! I think stylists really push lots of haircuts because it keeps them booked! Another one here that LOVES my long tresses!

I edited my post to add that I curl it dry. I only need to wash my hair twice a week and when I do, I always dry it first. ANd no, they don't bother me at all. I only curl the bottom, so the curlers are about at my shoulders - they don't touch my head. The only thing you have to be careful about is to make sure they are tight enough that they don't come out when you sleep. To solve that problem, I buy a package of curlers with multiple sizes and use the attachment from the smaller size (green) curler.

I wonder how short cuts got the reputation of being low maintenance? I can't think of anything more low maintenance than pulling my hair back in a pony or barrette.

I have long hair, and whenever I don't feel like styling it (which is most days), I french braid it. I guess that's pulling it back, but it works for me.

I know this is pulling back the hair too, but I put mine in a loose bun. It's out of my face, out of the way, and I have nice waves when I take it down.

I use velcro rollers.
I wash my hair in the morning (every other day) and about an hour later I put in a bunch of large velcro rollers. I work from home so it is pretty easy and it makes my hair smooth and not-frizzy.

Dunno why it got that reputation. You're right. Ponytail or braid is so easy.

I have long hair, I use a good no frizz product and braid it and then sleep on it, it gets nice and loose and looks good like that or I can undo it and get nice waves. I don't blow dry my hair ever but sometimes I flat iron it.

Here's a picture of my perm.
