I will start off by saying I am "green" to computer tech. So, I would like to learn about web design w/ certifications and/or becoming a webmaster. I am looking into 2yr plans, I do have a BS in agriculture,(grad. in 1989), yes I am 36. I have 8 yrs in order to complete my task before my 10yo DD hits college. Since you guys have been there, done that I thought you will have some valuable advice to share, short-term and/or long term.

Please don't laugh to hard, but you have to start somewhere.

Thanks!

I'm not really a techie, I just play one here. ;) I actually have a minor in computer science, but that was strictly in programming and many, many years ago. Everything I know about operations, websites etc, I have taught myself. I just searched on the web and started playing. www.webmonkey.com was helpful to me. The other techie types here have taught me alot as well. You can ask any tech type questions here. They don't have to be DIS related. We love to help. :) You might also want to check into community college classes.

My experience probably won't be the most useful path for you. Most of what I've learned has been self taught. The technology changes so quickly these days that unless you have just recently finished school, you wouldn't have taken classes that were relavent. That is my case, I gradutated from college in 1977. My degree is in Electrical Engineering and I followed as much of a "computer" path as you could follow then. When I got out of school, I got a computer related job and I designed computer and wrote operating systems and compilers.

After that everything else I've just picked up by trying and doing. I think that Lisa has a good suggestion in looking into a Community College. Even if you don't actually go for a degree, there are usually a lot of interesting classes offer there.

I'm just one of those people that watches what happens and has to dig in and see what makes it tick. You learn a lot about how things work and how to duplicate it by doing that.

Ask any questions and we'll see if we can pull some answers out of the hat for you.

Thanks for the input. Yes I do plan on the community college route. I did sign up for a basic class, to see if I can handle balancing everything. Thank You for the website, I appreciate it. I'll let you know if I need help. Right now I am busy with the before school starts scheduling.
