We have a 5 night stay at the Poly booked. We decided to add 3 days at Pop prior to that. How exactly will that work? I have seen posts saying that valet will transfer the luggage. What do I need to do? Do I just call valet, head to the parks after they pick up my luggage, and then when I am ready, go check in at the Poly? and then call valet to deliver my luggage?
Advice, please, from anyone who has done this.

We have done similar stays, though at different resorts.....here is what i can tell you!

* The Valet at one resort will transfer to the second resort. We have had our things show up in an hour, and not show up til evening......so, if there is somethign you really want to have (like a swimsuit for the late afternoon) take it with you!

*We take our luggage down to the valet and check it with them, then head to the parks. If they pick it up in your room, you must wait for them to arrive...they won't pick upif you aren't there.

*Once you check in at the Poly, you let them know you have luggage that was transferred and they will bring it to you.

Have Fun!

Yes, that is exactly what you do. We have done it several times and have never had an issue.

My only suggestion would be to take a bag with you to the parks that holds things you may need should you get to the 2nd hotel and your bags take a while to get to you...maybe bathing suits, sunscreen, medications you may need, pool flip flops. Store the bag in the locker at whatever park you go to so you don;t have to schlep it around.

That way, when you get to the Poly, if they are going to take a while to get your bags to you, you can still go to the pool.

We think the easiest way to do a Split stay is to hop in a cab. We personally use the switch day as a relaxing day and don't try to cram in a park. We just took our luggage and called for a cab. It took about 30 seconds for the cab and they put our luggage and us in the cab and we were at the next resort in about 10 minutes. Checked in, our room was ready so all our stuff was with us. If the room isn't ready then you can have bell services hold it. At least that way you know it is there. But again, we are the kind of people who like to get the check in done and then relax. By all means if you want to go to the parks, then just bring to Bell services at Pop and then check in later in the evening at POLY!. Good luck.

Oh and the cab ride cost me 6.00 so it was cheaper than two bottles of water! Of course from POP to Poly probably would be more expensive since it is a farther distance.

Good luck!

I thought about the cab thing but DD is a real fanatic about her kids' car seats and the time it would take her to make sure they were properly installed would run the fare up to a hundred bucks easy!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
That's a great suggestion about taking a bag for the pool. I will do that.
Thanks for the replies.

Well good for your dd! I do agree the cab thing is easiest, like the other poster I like to use that day if possible as more of a down day. However, sometimes that doesn't work. If that sounds the best, you could always take the cab and handle the transfer/checkin process, then meet up with everyone else a bit later. If not, I definitely second taking a bag to the park, we didn't and there was a mix up, our bags were not transferred from Boardwalk to ASMU and it took awhile to get it straightened out. We ended up having two unhappy kids who couldn't swim as promised and a daughter who really needed her allergy medicine that was not there! It all turned out fine but I sure wish I had packed a few things to keep that from happening.

WE love dOING THE SPLIT STAY THING. however, I must admit, we usually have our own car when we do it. regardless. .. it is such a fun way of experiencing deluxe resorts. for a few nights, when you can't afford to do it for the entire stay.... ,.AND you want to experience the DDP.. so, book 3 nights at a resort with the ddp. then book a new ressie for another disney resort (AAA, room only). there is SO much food on the DDP, you still have until midnight, so you can use a TS at the new resort (say, whispering canyon, at WL). and save a couple snack credits for a box of donuts and a huge bag of chips for the "not DDP' portion of the trip.
we love experiencing the dif. resorts. BTW .. may not be the best for the $ , but yummy food!. even if you are not staying there ., it's worth it to view the savannahs with the animals and eat the yummy food!

What a great idea! I think that is exactly what I will do. Thanks to all who replied!

Boy, this sounds just like us. We almost always do a split stay like this - although just recently doing the DDP. We usually stay about 5 days at one resort then 5 at another. Then we rent a car for the days in the middle. We have a car to move our own luggage and can spend a couple days offsite.

We always split our stays. Generally, we use the day we transfer to sleep in, pack our stuff up, check out, then take a cab to the new hotel.

When we get there, we usually have to keep our luggage with the bellhops. Then we got swimming and get drinks and lunch at the new hotel's pool. We go back to get our luggage when it's check in time, or they'll have it delivered to our room. I'm sort of a control freak, so I like to go get it so I know where it is. After that we usually clean up and hit Downtown Disney for the night, or see something like Cirque or Spirit of Aloha.

If you can't take that day off, I agree with meeting up with others after the transfer is handled. I hope it works out for you!

I thought you could just leave the stuff in your room and leave?

We did a split stay from AKL to Poly and on checkout day at AKL we had bell services come up and take our luggage informing them they were to be sent to Poly. We then left AKL and headed off to SeaWorld that day and by time we got back we checked in at Poly all had services bring everything up. It was a breeze.

okay Pop is a value resort. they have luggage service. That is who you call or you can take it to them.

what I do is get up early that morning - go check in at the other place - then come back and pack. then I take a nap. before I leave the room generally around 10:30 am I take my luggage over to their service. Tell them where to deliver it and then go eat lunch then leave.

that leaves around 2 to 3 hours to fill - so either go to the parks, DD, or just go to the new resort and look around.

when you check in - the new resort should give you a phone number to call. I call this number - probably about 3 times before my room is ready.

of course that doesn't mean that you won't get lucky and the room is ready when you arrive. - It does happen~~~~:woohoo: :yay:

forgot to mention - pack any and everything that you might need that day in a backpack. medicines, sun screen, swimming suits, sun glasses - you might not get your luggage until 3:00 pm.
