Advice for first time stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge?

I would request a room away from bus stop! High floor. You may face parking lot but there are a lot of trees.

We stayed standard view a couple years ago and had a fantastic time. Plenty of public areas to view the savannas. Request anything but a parking lot view. We ended up with room 4486 off of Zebra Trail. It was a corner room with a partial savanna view. We overlooked a hot tub and could see animals under the trees when sitting on our balcony. The pool was just to the right of our balcony and being the last room at the end of that hall we just used the outdoor staircase to get right to the pool. It was great!

We stayed at AKL last year and I loved it! Be sure to try the night vision animal viewing - usually the guides can find something out there. Also checking out all the viewing areas is great. Bring your own binoculars for daytime if you have some small ones - we wished we had done that.

If you can swing a meal at Boma, I do recommend that. The dinner was really good and even our picky person enjoyed it. I found the buses to be timely and only crowded at the super prime times like rope drop or park close.

Most of all, ENJOY!!!

Some standard view rooms have views of The savannah but overlook the fenced areas where people go in case of fire. Really nice view for standard! I would request a 'people pen' view.
