Hi all, I'm fairly new on here but just a little friendly advice for the site for I plan on spending much time here now that I found it. I would suggest less over indulgence on the acronym usage. I mean some are OK like IOA for Islands etc., but I've noticed some of these on here are getting rediculously long MHHNEEJEK and stuff and it is just getting silly.

Plus I noticed practically every newbie gets totally freaked out about it. Someone was just asking what HHN means, and yes I knew that it was Halloween Horror Nights, but I completely sympathized from where they were coming from.

I work in a field that is very acronym happy and it drives me crazy although I deal with it, I don't want to offend anyone but I would suggest either not using the more lengthy ones or at least spelling it out first in a post like this Islands of Adventure (IOA).

Also I know there is a table on here to explain the acronyms but they are getting annoying, this being said I know I am guilty of it too but just for future reference let's all try to use less acronyms.

This reminds me of a NASA documentary on their control room guys where one of the main ones said that their acronym usage was out of control and they had acronyms on top of acronyms, the GDS is OOC with the ECON now I'm really getting POd!!!

I am guilty of not being able to interpret half of the acronyms. I've figured out that DH, DW, DD and DS stand for husband, wife, daughter and son. What is the D for? Disney? Designated? Delightful? Dorky?

Where is there a Table? It's has to help with some of those longer ones.

I wanted to start a thread called "what are you saying?" but I felt too stupid to ask.

TAFSTT (Thanks alot for starting this thread)

The "D" stands for Dear. Although, I constantly catch myself saying Disney.

Here's a link to the commonly used acronyms:

I hear ya! My track record for figuring out acronyms that exceed three letters is about 50/50. When I can't figure one out I get frustrated. Aside from the basics I don't really use them. Mostly I never ask the poster to define their acronym but I think I'll try that from now on. I could always go here http://www.acronymfinder.com/ and try and look it up! AFAIK (as far as I know) its a great website, KWIM? :rotfl2: ;)

Precisely!! I too figured out that DH meant husband, but had no idea what D meant, I think it may be for those of you that live in Utah (polygymist) that have designated husbands and wives for the particular day/week/vacation. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

?, ?,by the way, ? responde sil vous plait as soon as possible 4 Halloween Horror Night Hard Rock Hotel, no Front of the line as far as I know.

I'm glad that I don't need that information. I only know the last one from the previous post. Whatever happened to old fashioned words? I know I need to keep up, I'm trying.

PS Happily :rotfl: I don't live in Utah

or should I have written appropriately "LOL" I had to ask my husband what that meant yesterday. (Laughing out loud)

I believe I figured out ***, but I'm afraid to ask about POS so I won't. :rolleyes1 This is a respectable forum, isn't it?

Thank you, I thought it might be something nautical. pirate:

Or should I have said Naughtycal. I know ...bad one. :sad2:

I think you may be referring to MMNSSHP. Although I have been here for over 6 years, I still get stumped by many of them. Especially when I hang out here and some of the acronyms are strictly Disney. It took me forever to figure MMNSSHP out. :goodvibes

Mickey Mouse's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

Perhaps we could have our moderator put up a sticky with all the acronyms :teeth:

not bad, heres what it is:

FWIW, ITA, BTW, IIRC RSVP ASAP 4 HHN HRH, no FOTL AFAIK=

for what it's worth, I totally agree...By the way, if I recall correctly, responde sil vous plait as soon as possible 4 Halloween Horror Nights @ Hard Rock Hotel, no Front of the line as far as I know. (I forgot the @ sign before)

Ok it didn't make complete sense, but I was going for humor

Yes that was the one I had in mind I didn't bother using it as the exact example for I guess the point was taken and proven being that you are a die hard 6 year vet and had the same thought as I on the MMNSSHP. They just get a little annoying but that's part of life, I'll get over it. I figure most of them out, but it seems once I figure the main ones out, someone is posting new ones, NWTFISUPWT? (Sorry I'm breaking my own rules)

You guys do realize we're dating ourselves here? :p I think my son(14) talks pig latin on the computer. :rotfl2: I can't understand any of it. Maybe, that's the point.

sometimes it means: dam

I dont like the acronyms either. I confess I dont even use the DH, DS, Danything. If I'm talking about my son I say my son. The D's seem really stepford wifey to me. But I'm a rebel.

If I don't know, I ask. I just asked about a couple today over on the Disney forums.

My husband has a FUAB on his desk-- "frequently used acronym book" ! :lmao: And yes, it actually says FUAB on the cover in big letters! :rotfl:
