Advice about Chef Mickey's

I need advice! I have a dinner reservation for Chef Mickey's the night we arrive (11/5). I have just discovered that my children's favorite chef- Paula Deen- will be at Epcot at 7:00 that evening doing a demonstration. I have called and there are no other dinner reservations available and only one breakfast- which I took until I can figure this out. My question is this. What is the likelihood that I can show up at Chef Mickey's on Saturday at 4:30 or so(dinner begins at 5:00) be seated, eat and be at Epcot by 7:00 to see Paula Deen? Or should I just forget it and eat breakfast at 7:00 AM(I'm sick thinking about getting up that early!) later in the week??? Also, if I don't cancel my reservation for dinner until that day, will I be charged?? Thanks for any advice you might have on this.

If you know anything about the culinary demonstrations at Epcot, that expertise would also be appreciated. My kids and I would love to meet Paula Deen. I think the name of the venue is Odyssey- The Chef's Place?

Thanks.

IMHO Chef Mickey's is not all it's cracked up to be!! You can often get in for dinner same day with no problems.

I would definitely see Paula Deen and take Chef Mickey's if you can get it later. Have fun....we LOVE Paula Deen too, wouldn't miss seeing her for the world, let alone a so-so meal @ Chef Mickey's.

Have a GREAT trip!!!

Oh I am so jealous. We love Paula Deen in our home too.

My opinion of Chef Mickey's is not a pleasant one. We were completely unhappy with the food - totally picked over and not replenished enough. The character interaction was just okay - better at CRT. I wouldn't miss Paula Deen. JMO

Personally I would not try and get in at CM at 5 and then get to EPCOT for Paula Deen by 7....you will feel totally rushed and hassled the whole time and it will not be enjoyable for anyone (you will rush through dinner, go flying over to Epcot at the last minute and then Paula D will be packed and you won't get in and everyone will be totally bummed because they did not get a nice dinner OR the show!!)

....we love CM's but I think the biggest mistake everyone makes is overscheduling these WDW trips....you spend your whole vacation feeling hurried and hassled and that kind of defeats the purpose of vacation IMHO.....

Just go to Epcot early (there will probably be a BIG crowd to see Paula Deen) eat a quick CS dinner somewhere over there and try for CM's later in the week (or not)....remember it is your vacation too....if it isn't fun to get up at dawn to make a CM reservation at 7AM then skip it....it isn't like your kids will not see any characters if they don't get to CM...

there is just no way to do it all, eat it all, and see it all in one visit!! The kids (and the grown ups) will remember the leisurely fun moments far more fondly than they will one more rushed, hassled event!!

Thanks for everyone's opinion. I am just working on a mother's guilt- feeling like I have to take the baby girl everywhere her sister's got to go last year! My girls really liked Chef Mickey's, but I think they will like Paula Deen better and I know I will!

And you are right about rushing around. It is so much more fun when you just take it easy. Thanks for reminding me.

You are so lucky to get to see Paula Deen! She talks like all of my aunts. :earseek: They are incredible cooks too. :goodvibes

I would eat CS at Sunshine Season and have plenty of time to get a good seat for Paula's show. I'm sure it will be crowded.

Paula Deen is a chef (though not professionally trained) specializing in Southern cooking. She has written many cookbooks, has a restaurant in Savannah and a show(or two?) on the Food Network. She has a great accent and is just fun to watch cook. She is also in the new movie "Elizabethtown".

I built up Chef Mickey's so high even I was dissapointed. Ever get stowed away in the adjoining room? What a way to feel like you're not even part of it all.

OMG--I am so jealous you get to see Paula Deen!!! I would pick her over Chef Mickey's any day--especially since your kids love her too!!!!

OH My I give anything to see Paul Deen. I watch her every week-end. She is awsome. I give up CM for sure no second thoughts. You said your kids love her too so there is your answer.
