A big shout-out to the team today--more than half the members reported time! Way to go!
Congratulations for turning
Disneyland Blue go out to
HappyGrape and
galaxygirl76.
While we're in California, let's take a look at the Indiana Jones Adventure, which opened in 1995 as Temple of the Forbidden Eye. In keeping with the setting of this ride, Disneyland's entire Adventureland was themed to the 1930s. Continuing its tradition of technology advancement, Disney invented a motion simulator system for the vehicles (the system is also used for the Dinosaur ride at Animal Kingdom). Interestingly, on-board computers control the intensity of the ride, choosing from various options. And keep your eyes peeled as you go through the queue: the troop transport truck outside is the one actually used in the climactic scenes of
Raiders of the Lost Ark, plus there is a mine cart that was used in
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
More congratulations for turning
Magic Kingdom Orange go out to
DVCFan1994 and
LizardQueen8. And of course to
swissfamilyrobinson, who skipped Disneyland entirely and headed straight for the Magic Kingdom (hopefully not in protest of Tarzan's eviction of the Robinsons at Disneyland).
As I mentioned yesterday, Pirates of the Caribbean was not an opening day attraction at the Magic Kingdom. It hadn't been planned for the park because designers thought Florida's proximity to the Caribbean would mean disinterest. But public demand proved otherwise. In contrast to Disneyland, which placed its pirates in the bayou (in New Orleans Square), the Magic Kingdom added a Caribbean-themed area to Adventureland, anchored by a fort modeled after a castillo in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
