Adventurers Club update

There was a group of about 20 people that were there before noon. We got there at 5:30 and made it in at opening. I don't think that more than a 100 people changed threw out the night. Whoever was in the door pretty much stayed. waited in line for 2 hrs to see final show. I felt a little bad for Maid show(second last show, few people entered, everyone wanted to be in last show. There was a huge crowd out front that stayed anyhow and watched on the monitors out front, They showed the final show on all of pleasure island.
Maybe I post more later. We did not get in until almost 4am. Added note it will be on internet. Lots of people recorded all night. Some where professional photographers. One I talked to said it might be a few days because he has to convert recording but is waiting until he gets home in Jersey.

Yes, Otis T. Wren FINALLY won a Balderdash Cup!!!!!
And Yes Otis won

I was there at 9:00 a.m., was still about 10 people back. The Club reached capacity within 20 minutes of opening, but there were still 400 people in line at one point. Final Hoopla lated until around 2:30.

I was there last night and, boy oh boy, was it crazy! We showed up at 6:30 and waiting 2 1/2 hours to get in. No one was leaving at all, not that I blame them. When people would exit everyone in line would cheer! The characters did come out during the night and interact with the guests in line, which I thought was really nice. They closed the line around 8 pm, and were not even letting people line up to try to get in after that point. We left about 15 mins before club closing, and there still was a line of people hopeful for one last glimpse. I'm really glad we got there when we did, and that we were able to experience a little bit of the last night. When we saw the crowds we knew that we were not going to make it into the hoopla, so we just saw as many library shows as possible. I'm really happy we got to see the Hathaway mask room show because it is my favorite.

Other than Otis winning the cup, there was one other suprise, at the very end when the characters gather around the top of the salon and play the instruments before the hoopla, Pamilla convinced Otis to take her on a date. She said that she had an old napkin, on which he had written that if he won the Balderdash Cup, that he would take her out for a drive. He relented to a movie date, but she would have to pay! ;) I thought that was a really sweet ending!

So now I'm home and I'm seriously depressed! :guilty: I'm going to go back to Disney next weekend, and I'm going to avoid DTD at night entirely, because I don't want to see PI shuttered.

I suggest that we as a community ban together to boycott whatever shop or restaurant goes into the space where the Adventurers Club is located. We can continue to support our beloved club, by not giving Disney a dime for whatever goes in the space. I personally will never patronize whatever goes there, and I think we should show Disney how much it still means to us by taking our vacation dollars elsewhere!

I'd love to hear more about what happened at the end, since my friend left early. He did hear that the last show was the Radio-Thon. I haven't seen anything on youtube yet.

Thanx to all who posted some info from last night.
There was a rumor of a new story line revealing why the club was closing.
I guess that never happened??

I said my goodbye on Sunday to AdClub. I watched all the shows and said my goodbyes. I was not planning on attending PI on the last night. After some regret in the middle of the day, I decided to head out to see some of my favorite Cast who were working outside. After walking around I decided to try and catch the last Comedy Warehouse show. I spent most of the night standing outside watching the AdClub via the monitors. I did end up catching the last two Comedy Warehouse shows. Once that was complete I left and went back up on my way to my car.

This was just in time to watch the final Hoopla. The best thing about it was Emil's finally. He did the scripted line "...I have a crush, on you Pamella..." , But everybody joined in, and you could feel the vibration (even outside) of "Ophelia". It was really special.

Also after the Kongaloosh and goodnight, they immediately marched outside to greet the masses of folks outside.

Other notables:
Comedy Warehouse resurrected a skit from Forbidden Disney in it's third show. They also invited all former and current Cast to come up on stage for the final song. A couple former Cast Members were given the ability to participate in a scene.

Midnight (New Years) fireworks took place.

I just got home and I'm still filled with emotion. I went to the first CW show and then stayed in mannequins all night. I did manage to get out to the smoking area for the fireworks. I am going to post a rather lengthy trip report very soon. For now, I'm exhausted and STILL hungover:thumbsup2

also FYI, my friend went to PI today and they already took down the signs outside mannequins, changed the big map at PI, and slopped paint all over 8-trax.

During the Radiothon, the check from House of Wong was only for $937 or some amount less than the usual $2,000. But then the cast got a telegram that an "old friend" would be returning with an announcement at 1:00 a.m.

Flash-forward to 1:00 a.m. During the Hoopla, the old monkey butler comes out--basically Graves with a monkey mask. The cast reads his annoucement that now he is rich, and will be taking the permanent members on a 1-year cruise on his yacht. Sort of an Adventurer's way of saying "And they lived happily ever after..."

That was about it. The problem is, by promising a "special announcement," many, many guests were expecting to hear the Club would reopen somewhere. Kind of made the real announcement anti-climactic. Also, this happened fairly early in the Hoopla--ended up being overshadowed by Otis' medley of almost every song he (as an actor) ever sang in the Club, Emil's accoustic song (which brought a lot of tears), Hathway's "P.S. I Love You" and the introduction of the cast.

 Or maybe a way of saying the Adventurer's Club will be back in a year? We can at least hope! :thumbsup2

I'm sad we couldn't make it to the closing...we did however visit twice on our vacation earlier this month just so I could say goodbye.

(see pics at this thread...)

One could only hope that they will be returning "next year," and perhaps somewhere near the "Yacht" Club...? :confused3

We spent Friday in AC, and Saturday in CW.
I had wanted to see the Halloween show. But figured I can watch it on youtube.
CW was wonderful as usual. I saw at least two shows where CW alumni was brought out and even did a few sketches.
We even saw the Forbidden Disney sketch. (A couple taking the wrong path back to their car in the dark with only flashlights to guide them...)
The crowds were amazing and I am sure all the PI CMs appreciated the show of support.
I have friends who came from out of state and went to the last 4 nights. They taped quite a bit. I took a lot of photos inside of CW Saturday night. I have been looking at the decor so long I wanted to really remember it.
DH and some friends went into PI last night. Security was shooing away people at AC. As someone noted the signage is starting to come down or being painted over. Ironically the PI neon signs were still on.
Both the real and pretend characters will all be so missed. :guilty: :sad1:

The day DTD magic died. Thanks for the great memories AC and CW.

I'm really, REALLY hoping that the Adventurers Club will come back...I wouldn't mind them making some adjustments, or tweaking it to be more efficient, just as long as they bring it back in some way. There is nothing else like it on property, and clearly, a lot of people truly enjoy it. I'm going to miss all those characters. I still can' believe its over.

Until our next club meeting....KUNGALOOSH

We were with friends last night after a late dinner and even they asked "What is there to do after dinner for adults now that PI is closed?"
I went back to the room and they walked around a bit in the closed PI before returning to their room. Sure was a lot of jack spent after dinner by us. (sarcasm)
Sadly, another move that will save us money. Which after today's U.S. news is not a bad thing if you have to put a positive spin on it.

As much fun as the last few nights were visiting the AC & the CW, it is very sad to know all those CMs will be going different ways & probably won't perform together again. My compliments to the all the CMs at the AC & the CW who were wonderful last week in being sure their guests were taken care of. (Sure beats some of the CMs working outside Saturday night.)

I chatted with several CMs around PI. Some CMs were picking up extra shifts at PI. A CM mentioned Disney upper management is now waiting to "hear" from guests in writing about their feelings on the closing of PI. We discussed that yes, Disney management is aware of the "talk" online, but they prefer to have your thoughts & feelings on paper.

Just a thought for what it is worth ...

Then let the letters continue! This needs to be known! I think it's time for a voicemail to the podcast to get the word out!

edit: you would think the number of people literally bawling as they left PI on Saturday night would be sufficient. I was one of them

thought that for about 5 seconds when they said it. (was in for that show also) but it passed as wishful thinking

I talked with a couple of CM that said same thing. I can see if Disney did anything in the future, it would be nothing like PI at all. Maybe a club or two somewhere else.

FYI, my friend went to PI today and they already took down the signs outside mannequins, changed the big map at PI, and slopped paint all over 8-trax.

And the Downtown Disney Guidemap brochure out on Sunday already had all of the clubs deleted from the PI map and listings. T-Rex Cafe is now shown in its location and there is no mention of Pleasure Island, Marketplace or West Side.

BobK/Orlando

Apparently Pleasure Island has re-annexed Portobello Yacht Club(I refuse to call it trattoria) and Fultons Crab House(yet another travesty that Disney no longer operates the Empress Lilly) as they are now 2 of the 5 things in the PI section. As of August, these restaurants were on the map as belonging to the Marketplace almost in keeping with the theme of playing down PI.

yes, my friend pointed out all the maps that had the clubs removed and any mention of PI. Now they took away the PI mention on the big map where you enter PI by mannequins. Such a shame
