Advantage to checking in online 60 days early?

Why do they have this and is there any reason to wait or not wait?

It's an easy way to get in some basic requests like where you want your room, and make sure your account is setup for the common things like a card you want to use to charge to the room, the pin number you'll need to charge/food plan, and mobile number if you want to get txt messages.

Generally you can skip front desk since your room key is your magic bands so if you have all the other things in place about a week before you arrive they will email you and tell if you can skip and go direct to your room. Some resorts it's a huge time saver since front desk is nowhere near rooms.

The only gotcha I noticed is if you pay off your visit after you did online check-in some information might disappear so make sure you go back and double check just over a week before you arrive if your info is there.. I don't wait to do it and I don't assume it's correct as it gets closer.

There is zero advantage to checking in online 60 days in advance. If you have requests, you can call them and note them in the reservation. I never do online check in until about 3 days prior to arrival.

At 60 days? None really.
Other than folks seem to feel like they are doing something to help the trip get closer

There are several advantages to checking in online within about 7 days to go
1 - you may get the option to go straight to your room
2 - you will get a chance to provide Disney with choices for your stay such as high floor, near transportation, etc.
They will assign you a room prior to your arrival no matter what you enter/opt to do so you may as well give them some idea of what you'd like vs. leaving it all to their choice

FWIW, you get those same "advantages" no matter when you do the online check-in. Not JUST within 7 days.

No law says you must check in 60 days in advance. Heck, no law says you have to do online check-in period. It's up to whatever you want to do.

True. Though I did say within about 7 days, not within 7 days. Still, I guess my point was not clear.
The point I was trying to make was they will assign you a room prior to your arrival, no matter what you opt to do in regards to online check in.
I believe this is done about 3 days before, approx.
If you wait till it gets too close you may loose the chance to have them consider your preferences. If you make them within about 7 days they should have them there when they make the assignments and hopefully they take them in to consideration

My apologies - I thought I read "within about". I'm sorry I misread.

Still, it's my understanding that they are on the reservation whenever you do the online check-in though - 60 days out or 7 days out. They go into the reservation when you do online check-in the same as if you have a request added on by a call-center cast member.

I think the 7-day thing may be a holdover from when faxing in requests was allowed because that was something NOT in there reservation for the room assigner to see as anything added onto the reservation by phone or by online check-in would be. At least when faxing was allowed I always heard 5-7 days for the fax. But that's separate than online check-in.

7 days was just my number I tossed out. The point is if you have something to request just get them done prior to whenever it is they do the assignments. Pretty sure 7 days is before that. 5 may or may not be. So I said 7 days as a cushion just to be safe as I'm not sure anyone knows exactly how many days out they assign the rooms, just that they do.

And no, it doesn't make any difference when it's done, provided it's done before they assign the room. Day 60, day 7, day whatever. Be it on the phone or online.

Faxing is still allowed. Touring Plans does it for all resorts (they must have an in that the general public does not have because they do work at least some of the time)
