So you can probably tell i'm so fed up with this acne. I am breaking out along my jawline and around my mouth. I canot keep my hands off and pick them. I am scarring myself. I've tried all kinds of home remedy's and facial washes, scrubs, masks, lotions, etc and I'm ready to hit the big time (rx meds). What have you done to conquer your acne???

I just went to the dermo for adult acne! It's horrible, but she says its normal and the only thing that truly can get rid of it is meds. So now I start my meds tonight. Good luck!

My insurance wouldn't pay for any of it, so I got the generic and it cost $70. I didn't care how much it cost because I'm so sick of breaking out. I didn't have acne this bad as a teenager.

Get thee to the dermatologist pronto. I started going about 5 months ago for freak horrid breakouts (I'm 36 and thought we'd be done with this). Only this month did the meds finally start kicking in and I'm not getting new breakouts, but the scars can last for a year or so. I'm on a face wash, 2 topicals, a vitamin and another oral med (treating acne and mild rosacea).

Invest in some Dermablend to cover them until the meds kick in.

Thanks I have an appt with my regular MD this week. I dont dare go to the Derm in the summer. They will lecture me on sun exposure....:scared1:

I recently went to GNC with my DD (24) who suffers from adult acne. She got some type of supplement along with tea tree oil that has really helped. I'll need to get the name from her. It took about 2 weeks.

I am very curious about which supplement she's been taking. I. too have battles adult acne and am sick of it! Been on meds so many times. :sad2:

I'm on the good stuff, retinol A! It will help with my little old wrinkles as well as my acne.

DS used Retinol when he was a teen. IIRC it's a creme, right?

A friend of mine's dd went on a trip with us once, and she got a hold of his Retinol and put a whole bunch of it on her face for a couple of days in a row, and got a chemical burn. I didn't even realize that she was using it. So it's pretty strong stuff. You have to be careful using it and use as directed.

Check prices at another pharmacy. I got the generic version, and it was $35 for a pretty large tube. This was a local pharmacy that always has great prices.

DH started doxycycline for Lyme disease & found it helped his acne, so the doctor kept him on it for that.

She's not home right now. As soon as she gets home I'll get the name from her. The tea tree oil smells terrible but the lady at GNC told her to apply it with a q-tip and that seems to be better because you don't get quite so much of it.

Okay, first of all..I am not saying this will work for everyone. I have had breakouts, particularly with "hormonal changes" every month I can remember. I have the scars and the whole works, mostly around my chin and mouth. I started dieting 2 months ago, and drinking around 72 oz of water a day, and I have not had a breakout since. I didn't notice it the first month, but the second one I did, and it was truly a "holy ****" type of moment. I would say to try drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day if you don't already. It certainly couldn't hurt..and it's free!

Clindamycin gel (topical) has helped me tremendously. I tried minocyclin (oral) first, but I am apparently allergic. I broke out in hives. I'll take acne over the hives!

I'm curious what tea tree oil does. I bought some to spray on my kids' hair as a "lice repellant" when the kids' daycare had a lice outbreak. Will it help acne, too? How do you apply it?

PROACTIV!!! I've had Acne for as long as i can remember, when I was younger I tried Proactiv but couldn't keep up with doing it twice a day but as an adult I was on top of it. It takes a couple weeks (2 or 3) but It made my skin beautiful! Def worth 50 bucks every two months! The lower cost of all that makeup will make it worth it too.

The ONLY thing that helped my acne was birth control pills, specifically Yaz. And I tried everything, every cream , gel, Proactive, changing diets, super expensive laser treatments. Breaking out along your jawline is a classic sign of hormonal imbalance acne that BC pills can help.
