Adults without kids meeting characters?

I don't mind getting pics alone w/characters, and nobody else should worry about it either. Have fun and enjoy it!

I don't think it is weird at all. I have taken a few character pics by myself. This next trip we are going to have 4 adults and we plan on taking plenty of pics. Of course I don't think is weird for a 57 year old man to have a Disney themed office either. When co-workers bring their youngsters to work they always bring them by to see it!!! I hand out WDW pins and character figurines too!!!

I got the idea a few days before our trip last December to get something signed by a bunch of different princesses to give as a Christmas gift. Being a 28 (29 now) year old male i figured it might be a little weird. They all just acted like nothing was different, asked the how your visit is kind of questions. Most of the discussion was about my item I had them sign and what it was for. They all loved the idea and the handlers loved it too.

The only "weird" thing was one of the guys in line with his wife and kids. "You waiting for your family?" "Nope". After I got out my stuff for them to sign while we were still in line. "You gonna sell that on eBay?" "Nope" "you could probably sell that on eBay and at least make the cost of your park tickets" "I'm giving it as a gift" "oh". Nobody else seemed like they were looking at me weird. I met probably 6-10 characters mostly the princesses.

Not weird at all. On my last trip I met, Woody & Buzz, Phineas and Ferb, Tigger & Pooh, Mickey & Minnie, Rapunzel, Snow White, Ariel and Merida. I usually chat with the folks standing in line with me and say something like "I'm probably the only one here with no kids, but Disney just brings out my inner 5 year old". I really don't care if they think I'm weird. I paid just as much to get in as they did. I figure I was 11 years old on my first trip to Disney and way too cool to meet characters then so I make up for it now. =)

Just a quick question: How weird is it for adults without kids to meet characters? I really want to meet my favorite characters but I don't want to seem strange standing in a sea of kids and parents. The only time I've met a character was Rapunzel on my first trip, and I got weird stares from the four other parents and kids that were in line with me. So on my last last trip I didn't meet anyone. It's not bad etiquette for people without kids to meet characters, right? :confused3

I say not weird at all. I have kids, but I don't have a problem with adults only in line with us. In fact, I kind of want to bring my OWN autograph book, but that's three books for them to sign, so I don't. That being said, I will retell my story of a dance party where a late-twenties woman kept dancing with Chip while my almost three year old was trying to dance with him. The boyfriend was snapping a bunch of pictures, and she just kept going. I'm pretty sure she saw her, and I know Chip did. (He danced with her later). She was too little to understand and kept trying to get his attention. I had to pull her away. I do not think this is cool. But what you're talking about, I wouldn't give it a second thought. :)

My first trip ever... 99.. we didn't have kids yet. I was, and still am, a HUGE Baloo fan. I wear Jungle book shirts with Baloo on them when I know I will see Baloo. It never EVER fails to get his attention. More often than not he takes me for a walk along the line of folks waiting pointing out to each of them my shirt. In 99 it was even better (or worse depending on how you look at it). In 99 he started jumping, had me dancing with him and went over to King Louie (this was in Adventureland) and PULLED HIM away from some little kid there to come meet me and do a picture.... I didn't ask him to do that :) I definitely got some dirty looks that time... but... Disney is for EVERYONE, not just those who haven't had a chance to live a few years yet..
so... GO FOR IT...have a blast, get autographs, take pictures - make YOUR memories... :)

Absolutely NOT! You're more than fine to visit characters alone as an adult! I've done it countless times without a single stare. Sometimes I feel a little weird, but that's my own self-conscious thoughts. If anyone gives you the stink eye, bleck to them.

I would never stand in line to meet a character but, that doesn't mean I think it is weird for an adult to be in a character meet and greet line.. not at all. My preference is to ride every ride I can but, if I was into meeting the characters I would do so without hesitation.
I think Disney probably encourages it actually, WDW is for kids of all ages, kids aged 1 to 100.

I will say this though... let's not pretend there won't be people who will be jerks about this. People can be pretty rude and feeling high and mighty so, my guess is you may get an occasional look. We had friends go last summer for an adult only anniversary trip and they met some characters and they mentioned they had a few "looks". My guess is the looks were from guests who don't normally go to Disney, they take their kids on the once in a lifetime trip and they resent adults taking up space in line. Clearly, they don't get that in WDW it is super common for adults to meet characters and it isn't all about their kids, it is about kids of all ages.

I remember our last trip I was wearing the dreaded capris and lace up tennis shoes and I wore this combination the entire week. I have weak ankles and bad feet so, cute sandals or flip flops weren't going to work for me. I didn't even think about it until one of our last days at HS shopping in a gift shop and I heard snickering and laughing.. I looked up and there were 3 women, probably in their early 30's or so making fun of me because I was wearing tennis shoes with capris. They were obvious about it, I could hear their comments, and it really, really bummed me out for awhile. Honestly sometimes it is not so easy to ignore people when they are being rude and my feelings were hurt.
I got over it... but, it was hard to believe anyone would give a flip that I was wearing tennis shoes with capris.. like who cares, you know.. we are all on vacation and comfort is the name of the game, not a fashion show.

I guess my point is people can be mean sometimes but, the vast majority won't think twice about it, so ignore the best you can those few who will be jerks and go meet all he characters you want and have fun! It is your vacation, you paid good money to be there and you have every right in the world to take advantage of everything Disney has to offer, including meeting the characters.

Kristine,

Meh don't let those Heffalumps and Woozles get you down about your sneaks and capris! I'm 29 and all I'm packing for my upcoming trip is
Capris and my sneaks! I've done the Disney trek in flip flops, converse sneakers and even my Sperry's and none of them were comfortable enough for that much walking. Skechers has a new line that has memory foam on the insoles. The sole has what looks to be like little plastic bubbles of air and they feel amazing! Comfort is key with disney! If that meant I needed
To wear bunny slippers I would do it!

Wow - people are RUDE. I am sure I got made fun of numerous times then b/c that's what I wore my whole trip last Dec. I mean seriously.....I was up on my feet for 14+ hours a day. No way my body would like me if I wore flip flops or sandals and walked that much. Funny thing is, I usually get back or hip pain, but I didn't on my last trip. I'm sure it was b/c I wore better supportive shoes.

I wear tennis shoes with my capris all the time! They are comfy and CAN be cute! I love to wear legging capris w a t shirt- real cute!!
Wouldn't let anyone dull your shine on a Disney vacation! Judging is not for them to do!

Wow, what jerks. As other posters have said, I seriously wear capris and tennis shoes a lot too. I didn't even know it was weird. I can't believe what some people find the need to talk about. Sad.

I wear capris and tennis shoes AND stand in line by myself for Lady tremaine and the sisters! My DH and DS are too busy with rides. Pooh to those who judge me!:cloud9:

I am not a fashion plate - ever- and I have to wear what is best for my bad feet and joints. My ecco sandals are not cute, but they work. I've seen women in really high heels and I wonder if any of them have ended up at a gift shop buying some different shoes.

As for adults with characters, yes we always make meeting them a big part of our trip. Do those who grumble believe that once their own children are grown that they won't want to visit with a character ever again? I've heard snippy comments but was raised better than to get involved in some tit for tat exchange. Let those petty people be petty, it usually means they are having a bad day or have a lot of misery in their life.

We are visiting for three weeks next Oct/Nov and we have already said that we are going to meet as many characters as possible because we didn't last time, ten years ago, when we visited.

We will be on our honeymoon, and we plan to take many pictures and scrapbook when we get home, there will be nothing more fun than showing pictures to family and friends of us with a variety of Disney characters. Disney is so nostalgic to so many people that it appeals to all ages and hey, we all have a smiling and excited childish side that loves to stand at the side of Donald Duck for a photograph.

The meet and greets are one of my favorite things. I hand make cards for them to sign that fit in the photo albums. I engage in "in character" conversation and have always found the characters responsive. My best photo last year was taken from behind as Chip and Dale walked me back to my ECV.

I have never heard that wearing sneakers and capris was a fashion no-no. I even asked my two sisters who are fashion mavens ala Sex in the City and neither of them have heard that either.

I don't think so. Do what pleases you. Heck, I'm almost 30 and I plan to meet some characters when I go next week. As Elsa says, I don't care what they're going to say. My younger sister, who turned 18 two weeks ago, offered to take me to meet some of the princesses and we'd just meet up with everyone else in our party :).

I really love meeting the characters, definitely gives me the disney magic and I really enjoy the interaction :goodvibes

Those women were ridiculous. IMO, all fashion "rules" (assuming you regularly follow them) are suspended at WDW, but I've never even heard the "rule" about tennis shoes with capris in the first place. You don't go to a place where the standard footwear includes neon Crocs if you're so concerned about your fashionable image.
