Adults using the word "yummy"

I've thought of another I hate, but only written not vocalised.

Huni or hunni.

I'm surprised that your husband's siblings calling him by the only name they've probably ever called him would bother you. My brother has a nickname with a "y" at the end and all of my siblings and also my parents know him as no other. It would be weird for us to shorten his name now.

I see a difference between family and friends using the nickname and the person introducing themselves as Mikey instead of Michael or Mike in a professional setting.

Another one:

Adults who go by their shortened or nickname, usually ending in 'y'. Sammy instead of Samuel, Tommy instead of Thomas, Becky instead of Rebecca, Bobby instead of Robert- it sounds so kiddish to me, especially in a professional setting.

Perhaps their given name is the shortened version. My given name is Christy, it never occurred to me that it sounds unprofessional. I know a Becky and a Jenny who's given names are the shortened version.

I think the only thing that looks childish to me is if someone dots their I's with hearts.

Those names sound fine. It's more than OK for adults to choose what they are called, either given or nickname. I would hope most supervisors and co-workers would be focused on the work at hand, not someone's name.

Ohhh, a lot of the shortened and trendy terms here really might get on my nerves!!

But 'yummy' certainly would not be one of those.
I feel like I am a somewhat mature person, and actually do consider myself to be a bit of a foodie.

Never, ever, in a million years would see how those to things could be offensive?

I posted upthread that "yummy" does bug me, but when I really think about it, only when overused. Otherwise, it doesn't bother me too much. Some of the dining reports have "yummy" all over them, over and over again. That's where I think I get most annoyed.

I knew a Beth and a Kim - those were their given names. They worked with me at the same time. And I know they got sick of people automatically calling them Elizabeth and Kimberly. We used to call them "Just Beth" and "Just Kim" because they had to say that so often!

If I had a time for every time someone asks me what CJ stands for!

This recent fad of labeling a thread "Spinoff", or S/O because this is the Dis and everything has to be abbreviated. It's okay to start a thread inspired by another thread. There is no need to announce it!

Ohhh, yes! I think this falls into over-use of a simple word.
So, I will throw one in here. (forgive if it was specifically mentioned and I didn't notice it...)

The word 'like', when way overused. EWWWW!!!!
There are still people and areas where that valley-girl-speak is still used.
Like, you know, when, like, after like every other word, the person throws in the word 'like'.
Like, that really, like, annoys me!

I hate it when people, mostly young people, use the word gay to mean something stupid or a rule they don't like (similar to the use of the word retarded).

I haven't read the entire thread, but I hate when a man says "we are pregnant, when we got pregnant" etc. YOU are not pregnant! You don't have the proper parts!

Nobody can say Deanne? What kind of people do you hang with? My friends shorten my name to 'Ceej', too but I hope to God it's not because the can't say it.

wow that seemed a bit rude to be honest.
its not people i "hang" with.
its generally people like doctors or in other professional situations.
i've been called Deanna, Dean, Danean, Deanie... the list goes on.

my endocrinologist literally just opens the door and looks at me and since i'm visually impaired i'm always stressed out because if there's anyone else in the waiting room i don't iknow if he's looking at me or the person sitting next to me.

my primary dr told me right off the bat he could not say my name so he calls me "Ms Ann"

in work situations if i don't say call me Dee then i'm always called Deanna and it pisses me off so i rather them use my nickname.

friends and family know my name. thats not a problem.
although since we're close they usually just call me Dee anyways.

I just though of another one I can't stand. I hate when someone says" I just threw up a bit in my mouth" . Disgusting!! Just say you don't like it and I will understand you.

How do you define "recent?" People were using spinoff or S/O in the titles of threads during my first go-round here 5 years ago.

Yes and also dislike "left a bad taste in my mouth" I find it gross!

About 5 years! The term has always been around but have you ever seen it used so much? No. It's a buzzword that will be popular until the next one comes along. "Hill to die on" was all the rage a couple years ago.

Moist
Poopy
Prego

The -y names don't bother me. (Not even Shelly!) So many 80's and 90's girls' names end that way.
