Adults using the word "yummy"

I definitely use Yummy as well as many other words mentioned here. They don't bother me in the least.

The only words people use that bug me are when people use the word boyfriend or girlfriend when they are talking about their children. I have one person on my FB feed in particular who always calls her three young sons her boyfriends and I find it really strange.

Okay, here's one that got me last night while watching TV: belly.

Smart adults should not say "belly" when talking about their stomach or intestines hurting. This was on a commercial for a drug (forget the name) for IBS-C. The commercial used the term "belly" about 4 times. Do you have pain in your belly? For belly pain from IBS... etc. No, please, just stop. Finally at the end when they started in on all the warnings, they switched over to "stomach" or "abdominal."

The older I get, there are fewer things that bother me.

Of course, anything repeated over and over can be annoying. A coworker always says ai-yi-yi whenever anything happens. Anything. It's like working with the Frito Bandito.
The kids nowadays say "rip" all the time. It doesn't really bother me, but I don't get it.
Yummy or belly don't bother me much - but "tummy" grates. Nothing more annoying than a forty-something year old lady saying she has "tummy trouble".
And of course my pet peeve - people who don't know the difference between less and fewer. Like people who were. Not raised in a sewer. (credit to Weird Al)

Maybe more things bother me than I realize!

Am I the only one who thinks it sounds ridiculous, unless they're addressing a child?

Any other "word pet peeves?" "Pop" (what decent people refer to as "soda" ;)) is another one that's like nails on a chalkboard.

I grew up calling "pop" a soft drink. Always thought pop was weird.

Here's a new one -at least to me.

I was taking my DD and her two friends (all about age 12) to the mall this weekend and they kept saying "shipped". As in "Did you see on that Instagram post that Billy shipped Tom and Sally?

I stayed quiet because I didn't want to be the dorky mom who had no idea what that meant, but luckily one of the girls chimed in and said "Yeah, it says TomxSally. Uhhhhh, never...Tom only Wishes!"

O-kayyyy, so apparently it means a mashup of both names when people think they would make a good couple?!

Of course I had to look it up on Urban Dictionary when I got home:

SHIPPING: a verb to denote their interest in the possible (and perhaps more often impossible) romantic relationship between two characters in a piece of fiction belonging to any medium. It's really never used in a platonic way, but if it ever is, people tend to separately emphasize that they are using it platonically.

Usually written: Character/Character or CharacterxCharacter. Fanfiction without any shipping, or with little emphasis on ship is usually labeled genfic, which there is a depressing lack of.

Kids are so weird....

Me too! I thought it meant beautiful. I'm only 23

If you are aro
gender reveal
push present

I know I'm probably turing into a bitter old lady, but I can't stand the new baby traditions (or the names attached to them) The first time I got invited to a "gender reveal" party I thought it was a joke. Then there's the whole "push present" thing. WHAT????

LOL. I have to admit I had to look that one up. I was reading it more of like "pushing for presents", like being pushy for a gift-grab or whatever. Now I get it.

And it's gross-sounding! There are a lot of "presents" being pushed during labor, but a diamond isn't one of them!

I'm old, but I know the expression "to ship". Teen Wolf fans were always shipping Stiles and Derek, but it wasn't gonna happen because both of them were heterosexual/straight.

I despise it when mothers refer to themselves as "mommy" or "mommies." UGH!

This is prevalent on Facebook--especially in "mom groups." I use the terms "mom" or sometimes "mama" as in, "hang in there, mama!" if a mom is going through a tough time.
