Adults Only?

Not sure what you define as disruptive....

Last times we were on the Magic and Wonder, my older daughter was 6 and 8 respectively. She sat with us, watched us play bingo, and helped mark squares. Is that wrong?

No. It's not wrong. Bingo isn't designated as adult only. As to gambling... Please, another mans "bad parenting" is another ones fun! Hahaha.

I have never ever experienced drunk adults on Disney and I am very thankful.

We too have noticed this on a couple of cruises over the last few years, in the pool area. In May we did a Tequila Tasting, on the Fantasy, and a had a group of 3 or 4 couples who were hammered before the tasting even started. Needless to say they pretty much ruined the session for everyone else. The Bartender tried unsuccessfully to keep them under control but it was a lost cause. After the session was over he caught up with us and some of the other couples, took our names & got us a private tasting later ion during the cruise. :cool1:

We do not have kids and love DCL! :thumbsup2 It's great! I love watcing the kids and to see the expressions of wonder and awe on a kids face when a Disney Character shows up unexpectedly. You'd think they were seeing the face of God or something. But, when a kid is over tired and starts to scream and cry, why, I can simply walk away!!! it's the best of both worlds!!! But, I do expect to have no kids in the adult areas. Doesn't always happen, but for the most part, the adult areas are pretty much kid-free most of the time.:cool1:

When RedWife and I were on the Wonder for our 5th anniversary (10/1999 - well before RedGirl was around) we had a great kid-less trip and commented many times - if it wasn't for dinner in the main restaurants, the show each evening and the movie theater, we would have sworn there weren't any kids on the ship. We virtually stayed in the "adults only" the whole cruise.

Flash forward to 3/2011, Redgirl was 8 and we had to practically drag her out of OL/OC and we again spent a lot of time in the adults only area and didn't see many kids (except when we were waiting in lines for character pictures/autographs with RedGirl).

Off topic: See, I am worried about that! My son is 6 and when I look at OL/OC it looks AMAZING. I am so bummed out I can't go play with my son in there, lol. I can think of a few things to do while he goes in (Palos, Rainforest, read a book), but honestly....I like spending time with my family. I'm afraid once he goes in he may never come out, lol.

Actually, the kids clubs have Open House daily in either the Club or the Lab that you can participate in with your kids. Just check your Navigators for specifics as to location and time.

:cutie:

I think for the most part they do a great job at keeping the adult areas, adult only. In 11 cruises I have only had a problem once with kids in the adult only areas. I did bring to the CD attention. CD said he would make sure something would get done. He lied. He did nothing and actually turned a blind eye to it. Had to write a scathing leather to DCL. I now have zero respect for said CD. It was Brent by the way.

Was it a 3 night cruise? We haven't had this problem on longer cruises, but the guest behavior on our 3 night was such that I don't want to experience another one.

I know this is an old quote of yours, but I totally agree with this. We did a 3-night cruise in September last year, and the only reason we did it was because it was the 2nd half of a B2B. Horrible guest behavior, and certainly not the Disney cruises we are used to. I exchanged glances with a crew member over some pretty obnoxious, entitled behavior, and we chatted about it later in passing. He said it was a problem on shorter cruises, especially in Fall. Apparently: cheap prices + a short weekend trip = not-your-usual Disney dynamic.

We will not be doing another 3-night cruise.

Back on topic, I have a problem with kids "checking in" with their parents at the Quiet Cove Pool. Not all agree with this, but a constant stream of kids checking in with various parents for a minute or two at a time doesn't make for an adult environment. Sorry, but there are better places to arrange a check in with your little than the adult pool, especially when kid whines he wants a smoothie, and mom says no, and kids continues to whine and cry.... Even if it's just for a minute. This seems to have subsided a bit with the introduction of wave phones, thankfully.

One thing I noticed a lot on the Wonder was kids on the deck above the quiet cove pool, either looking down to see what fun they're missing out on down there, or looking down and yelling "MOM MOM MOM" trying to get their mom's attention. It was kind of disconcerting at times, but it didn't ruin the cruise for me or anything.

I know kids are naturally curious, and if they find out there's something they can't do or somewhere they can't go, they want to know why. The kids looking down at the Quiet Cove pool were probably just staring, wondering what was so great about just laying around not doing anything.

The kids that were up there hollering for their parents were pretty annoying, but if they don't have a wave phone, and they need their parents, and they know they aren't supposed to go down to the pool deck to get them, I guess they really don't have any other choice.

As a mom of a 20 year old...your 18, 19, and 23 year olds will have a KTTW card that clearly indicates that they are 18 or over. Unfortunately, they need to be willing to show that to any CM who asks.

Reality--unless there have been complaints, they rarely card on the pool deck. Unless they are acting inappropriately, it is unlikely that anyone will bother them. Entering the clubs--the cruise staff will get to know them within a night or two...no problem.

DD has been carded once in our MANY cruises. It just isn't a hassle under most circumstances.

It's not the 18, 19, and older that are a problem..it's the loud, boisterous, younger children that are so annoying. Is it just me, or do you all notice how loud today's children are? They scream at each other....do they know how to use an indoor voice level?confused3

We love DCL for a family vacation and as our girls get older, they want to be with us less and their new friends more. It is a part of growing up...and it gives me a bit of time.

In May I was on the Dream and a man brought his four children into the Cove Cafe and ordered his coffee. The kids were loud and horsed around. They were able to get treats out of the case. They even sat down and started eating before the CMs told them that he had to take them out. He wasn't happy about it one bit.

I have also seen parents bring their children in and let them dangle their feet in the pool, etc. Annoying, yes, but I am not about to let that ruin my vacation.

At the adult cabaret show last time there was a toddler and a baby snoozing in a stroller in the club and no CM said anything. I thought it was a bit inappropriate, but that is just my opinion and they weren't bothering anyone.

I totally agree!!!

I know that this is an older thread but I thought I'd share our recent experience on the Dream. We were in the adult only area and a guy was sitting behind us. A little later, some kids come up and I was like, Okay, they're probably just checking in. They were being fairly quiet, but five-ten minutes later, they're still there. Then Mom comes up. They finally decide to leave, but the parents were planning on coming back because they left their stuff there. The next thing we know, the kids were running back and forth from the other side of the partition. I said, "You shouldn't be running and you're not supposed to be over here." They kind of slunk away but, up until that point, it had been very quiet.

I've seen some kids on the beach at CC as well, but they weren't very for more than a couple of minutes--just checking in, I'm sure.

And for the record, I don't mind checking in, but that shouldn't take much more than five minutes. Anything more than that, then the kids should be taken to the other side of the partition.

How good is Disney about keeping their adult only areas adult only?

The real question is how are Disney guests at respecting the policies and following them?

Answer: not very. Plenty of kids in the adult area, lots of seat saving/reserving, and lots of people ignoring the MDR dining codes.

This is NOT Disney's fault. This rests squarely on the shoulders of the adults who feel entitled to ignore common courtesy, even when Disney has to spell it out. Sadly, as elsewhere in society, you'll find it on the ships.

Try to ignore it, accept life isn't perfect, and you will find you will enjoy your vacation on the Disney ships immensely. Luckily there aren't that many people doing things like this; it happens, but it really isn't vacation spoiling if you can overlook it.

I was on a 3-night on the Dream in May, my 3rd cruise with DCL. And I did not have any problems with seeing kids at the pool area or in the bars and lounges in the evening. I knew from reading the DIS that the Dream and Fantasy will have families passing through. So yes, I did see this happen, but it didn't bother me. Perhaps I just had a decent group of fellow passengers? :rotfl2:

The only time I did see kids linger was on my first cruise with DCL on the Magic in 2003. The boys were about middle school age, and a crew member immediately saw them and asked them to walk toward the family area. I was impressed, because my prior cruise experiences were non-DCL, with young kids at the nightclubs and running around the ship.

I didn't have a problem on the Wonder, either, and I'm hoping my cruise on the Fantasy next month will keep the streak alive.

I hope they got back to you. And with something other than "we're sorry this happened. We've discussed the incident with the parties involved. Have a Magical Day!" (Brent? not THE Brent of DIS-adulation fame?)

I do agree that the problem lies primarily with parents who chose to believe the rules apply to everyone but their own offspring. However, DCL does itself a disservice if they do not enforce the adults only sections of the ship. DCL advertises adults only areas. Adults sail DCL expecting to find these areas "as advertised." Not unreasonable, IMO, given today's surging numbers of "parents in name only and not practice," that DCL should take a more proactive approach in policing the adult sections of the ship. There is no excuse for a guest complaint of this sort to not be taken seriously and addressed.

Nope the same Brent that everyone here loves and I think I am the only one here who dislikes him. By the way I dislike anyone who lies to my face. I never got anything more than the canned reply from DCL. That's alright cause I was able to let them know me feelings. Like I said. This was the only time I have had a issue in 11 cruises.
