Welcome to my magical, wondrous, fantastic adults only trip report! November 24th through December 2nd ~ 1 night at CSR, 3 nights at the Poly and 3 nights at POR

I’ll start with the cast:

princess: Me~ (Kim) 24 years old, love anything Disney. Works two jobs (now one, I’ll explain later) and lives at home with the parents in VA.

:groom: Boyfriend~ (Colton) 22 years old, loves me. Is an electrician and lives at home with his parents in NC

:sunny: Mom~ (Cindy) likes Disney but really just tags along as my Dad and I love it so much. Works as a Finance Manager at a bank.

pirate: Dad~ (Gene) retired firefighter who believes he stopped getting older at 18. I believe he just stopped maturing after 18.

The story before the story:

I had started planning this trip after our last trip in December of 2005. It was originally planned to be just my boyfriend and I but I was told by my Dad that no trip to Disney would ever take place without him as long as he’s alive so that counted my parents in as well. My brother (27) is sick of going to WDW every year (I don’t think we’re related, I’m still trying to get DNA tests done to prove it), so he stayed home.

I’ve known my boyfriend for about 4 years but we’ve been together for a little over a year. He went to Disney when he was 7 but only to MK and Epcot for one day to each and doesn’t remember much so we wiped the slate clean and said it was like he’d never been there. I also had several surprises in store that he didn’t know about. Ok, enough rambling on to the trip!!

Day 1 ~ Friday November 24th

I had to work the Friday after Thanksgiving until 2 p.m. and then I was headed straight to my boyfriend’s house in Wake Forest, NC. After I got off of work I received a phone call from the temp agency I work for saying that I was no longer needed to go back to work after my vacation. This upset me because the reason I was no longer “needed” was my “boss” asked me to do something I felt was unethical the day before Thanksgiving and I told her I was uncomfortable doing it. She then called the temp agency and told them I was unwilling to work or to respect authority and that I was no longer needed. I was glad to be out of there as it was a very unprofessional and hostile environment but it’s not a very secure feeling knowing you’re going on vacation and the paychecks aren’t going to be there when you come back!

Anyways, I dried my tears and headed on to NC. I arrived at my boyfriend’s house at about 5:30 p.m. We went to a yummy Mexican place and I had a few too many margaritas’ (that always seems to happen to me). We went back to his house and I took a nap until about 8 p.m. and then we got on the road.

We were meeting my parents in Lumberton, NC where we had a hotel for the night. This was only about a two hour drive from Wake Forest. We had a good time talking about how excited we were and listening to Christmas music. We arrived at the Howard Johnson Express in Lumberton at about 10 p.m.

You know what I hate? When you pull up at a hotel and there are more people hanging out in the parking lot then are actually staying at the hotel. I was a little nervous with leaving so much stuff in my car overnight but really didn’t want to drag it all in for the night either. The rooms were nice and clean which I guess is all you really want in a room when you’re just staying there for the night. I set the alarm for 7 a.m. and got a good night’s sleep.

Day 2 ~ Saturday November 25th

The Driving Day. We flew last year for the first time to WDW and hated it. We had one layover on the way back and between having to leave 3 hours early for Magical Express and a delayed flight it took us 11 hours to fly back and was a lot more stressful than driving IMO. Plus you can shove way more souvenirs into a car then you can into a suitcase!

We enjoyed the luxurious continental breakfast at the HoJo. Nothing gets a girl started in the morning like mini donuts and apple juice! I read a few Disney brochures that were in the brochure stand that were a little outdated (advertising the Happiest Celebration on Earth) which got me thinking if it’s someone’s job at Disney to box up thousands of brochures and send them out to all the roadside hotels in America every time they printed new ones. I could do that job.

We got back on 95 South at around 8 a.m. Neither car was broken into in the middle of the night, so that was a relief. It was a beautiful day and the drive was relatively uneventful. We stopped at an Arby’s when we got into Georgia and I swear it was the nicest, cleanest, friendliest Arby’s I have ever been to in my life. All of the employees say hello when you come through the door and they have a bell you can ring if you had great service and they all say Thank you if you ring it.. It was one of the highlights of my day :teeth: .

After lunch we gassed up and headed south again. We hit a little bit of traffic in Florida but nothing major. Edited to Add: My boyfriend and I got into a "disagreement" heading into Florida. I handed him the camcorder ( I was driving) and I asked him to videotape the Welcome to Florida sign. Well every time you hit record on a camcorder he thinks he has to talk the entire time and say funny things. Well he's so busy trying to entertain the non-audience that he misses the stupid sign!! He then says he's a horrible boyfriend every five mintues for the next two hours. Next time I'll do it myself and just try not to get into an accident. Sheesh.

I had a surprised planned for my parents and Colton and it was killing me all day not to spill it. My mom had originally made reservations at All Star Music for our arrival night for one room for $99 (and $10 for each additional adult over two). I had cancelled them without her knowing the previous week and made two room reservations at Coronado Springs for a discounted rate of $99 a night for each room (which I knew Colton would be excited about as I’m sure sleeping in the same room as my parents was not his idea of a good time).

I kept waiting and waiting until we passed the exit for Sea World and then I knew I only had about 15 minutes left. I jumped on the two way radio and excitedly yelled my surprise. Everyone was excited and sang my praises. Well, not really but I’m sure they were in their heads. ;)

We got so lost trying to find Coronado Springs but arrived at about 5 p.m. I checked us in and kept driving everyone crazy by asking the same questions over and over again “Do you see how beautiful the Christmas tree is?!? How festive!!” “Did you see the poinsettia decorations over the walkway?!? How beautiful!!” “Did you see the water with the birds?!? How wonderful!!!” I think they tried to leave me as we headed back to the cars but they couldn’t go far as I had all of the room keys. :smooth:

I had requested the Ranchos section which is where we were put. We parked the cars and unloaded some of our stuff and headed to our rooms. Side note: Anyone else hate when you reserve two rooms and one room has a better view than the other so you give that one to the other party really wanting it for yourself? Yeah me too.

One room had a nice pool view and the other had a parking lot view. I gave the pool view room to my folks and we headed to our asphalt view room. I actually really didn’t mind since it was only one night (any longer and I’d be elbowing Mom and Dad over for that room! ;) ). The rooms were nice and I thought it was funny that we had one light bulb out (the far right one over the mirror over the sink) and my parents had the same light bulb out in their room!.

We relaxed for a little bit and changed for dinner. We got back in one car and headed over to Animal Kingdom for our ADR at Rainforest Café. It was for 6:45 p.m. and the park closed at 7 p.m. There was a long line to check in for our ADR and I overheard that the wait was 45 minutes which didn’t surprise me for a Saturday night on a holiday weekend. After checking in we were seated in less than 10 minutes. We had a nice half booth table and Colton and I ordered margarita’s in the light up glasses. They were very tasty and the cups made great souvenirs.

Colton had the ribs, steak, and shrimp dinner. I had the Brave New World pizza and we shared the Chimi-Cha-Cha for an appetizer (which was very delicious and we both agreed better than our meals which were just ok). Our meal (with the $14 a piece margarita’s) was $88 including tip. I didn’t mind as he was paying :rolleyes1 . It was all delicious but the screaming of the servers every time someone ordered a Volcano (which was every 2 minutes) for dessert was kind of annoying, but we didn’t care because it was our first night in Disney!!

After dinner we got back in our car and headed to Pleasure Island. We got lost again (hey, we’re used to just parking our cars and letting Disney do the transporting so when we actually have to drive it’s not so easy :moped: ) but eventually got there a little after 8 p.m.

We headed into Pleasure Island and it was our first time here since they opened it up to anyone who feels like walking through. I have to say I kind of miss how it used to be when they had that big stage next to the Comedy Warehouse and it felt like a party atmosphere around PI. Now it just feels like a bunch of people rushing through to get to West Side or Marketplace and kids running everywhere.

We walked around and decided to wait for the next showing at the Comedy Warehouse. We had great seats right next to the stage. I ordered a yummy mud slide and Colton ordered a specialty drink called the Giggler. It was very tasty and I drank most of it :drinking1 . The show was funny and over too quick. We walked more around PI but by this time we were practically getting run over by groups of people so we decided to head over to Marketplace. It was swarmed with people (as we thought it would be) so we headed back to our car and made our way back to the resort for a good night’s sleep.

Up next: Sea World, Colton cries at the Shamu show (don’t tell him I told you!), we see violence towards sea creatures, we find good times at the Hospitality house, and checking in at the Poly!!

**Oh yeah, and pics to come as soon as I develop them (as I'm not a big fan of digital cameras...takes away from the surprise of what the picture is going to look like I say!) **

Hey great start! :thumbsup2

I like reading trip reviews of young adults, gives me a good sense of what to look forward to. Love the idea of the comedy warehouse, i thought that PI was all about dancing clubs, so thanks for enlightening me.

PICZ PICZ! develop develop!

keep going!

Great start so far, NLC!

Sorry to hear about that job situation.

Day 3 ~ Sunday, November 26th ~ Sea World & Checking in to the Poly

I set the wake up call the night before and had Colton sleep on the side of the bed closest to the phone (BTW a double bed with a 6’6” 250 lbs. guy doesn’t leave much room for the other person). I didn’t tell him about the wake up call and was excited when I heard the phone ring in the morning. He rolled over, picked up the phone, and hung it up without even putting it to his ear! Oh well, maybe tomorrow. (Not that Stitch is that exciting but I thought he would think it was cute. But then again I’m a girl and I would think something like that was cute).

We woke up about 8:15 a.m. Showered, packed up a little, and watched a little Disney TV :happytv: . Last year when we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge there was a channel that showed older Disney cartoons (ones I watched growing up) all day and I looked at every resort we stayed at and could never find it. And why is Stacey still on there?!?! She drives me CRAZY!!

We packed up the cars and walked a little around the resort. It really is a very nice resort and I would stay here again in a heartbeat (although I’ll probably never get another chance to because after Colton stayed at the Poly his champagne tastes kicked in ~ too bad we have a Natural Ice budget :teeth: ). We drove over to the Poly to do the early check in and to leave one of the cars there.

I was so excited walking through the doors. I could tell Colton was very impressed with this resort as we walked around the lobby while my parents checked in. I’m sure I looked like a typical tourist as I was videotaping us walking around everywhere. I took him around the beach area and he wanted to know why he wasn’t allowed to swim. Who in the world wants to swim in that lake? I remember when we first stayed there you were allowed to swim in the lake and I didn’t even want to do it then. Yuck. But apparently that’s just me…

We got leid and left. And then we all did the typical “lei” jokes for a good 7-8 minutes as we piled in the car and headed to Sea World. My Dad works part time for Busch Gardens so we had season passes and free passes and it’s sort of a tradition that our first day is spent at Sea World.

We parked and were inside the park by 10:30 a.m. It was semi-crowded but I had a route planned to be able to hit the most shows we could that day. The weather was beautiful. 75 degrees and sunny :sunny: . We stopped at the Dolphin Nursery to watch the baby dolphins. We then headed over to the Shamu stadium to watch Believe at 11:30. We got great seats and I enjoyed the show. My only issue with the show is there is more “movie” to the show then there is of Shamu. When the show was over I looked at Colton and he had tears in his eyes and he said he was just so happy to be there and so happy to be on vacation with me. Awww… :lovestruc

After the show we headed over to the Voyager restaurant and had some pizza and fries and salads. The pizza was good (definitely better than Busch Gardens food) and the inside of the restaurant was pretty nice.

We had a little bit of an issue with the cashier because I handed her my season pass and let her know that I get 30% off because I have a platinum pass (not the 10% that other season passes get; I don’t really understand why they don’t make the passes look different as the only way to tell is to read all of the stuff on the back of the card…but I digress). She doesn’t even look up at me and says ok. We get to the table and Colton is reading over the receipt and notices that she only gave me 10% off. I told him it was no big deal but he says that it’s an extra like $3-4 so he goes back up there to her. After awhile I wonder why he’s been gone for so long. I go back to the register and the cashier tells me that NO pass gets 30% off and that I didn’t even show her the pass and then changes it to that I showed her the pass that gets 10% off (Yes, I keep extra season passes on hand just to play games with cashiers ;) ). The manager finally comes over and explains to the cashier that platinum passes to get 30% off and apologized. So after all of that, I get my $3 :cheer2: . Other than that we had a great lunch and I would definitely eat here again.

After lunch we walked through the Penguin Encounter and then to the Pets Ahoy show at 1:45 p.m. Cute as always and Colton thought it was so neat how they get all of the animals to do the tricks (they have the same show at Busch Gardens but I wouldn’t let him watch it as the one at Sea World is so much better).

After the show we went over to feed the sea lions. Do they ever get full? It seems like every year the same one is begging for food. It was fun feeding them and watching them play. We then went to the Clyde and Seymore show which is my favorite show at Sea World. I love the sea lions and always want one as a pet when I leave the show but haven’t figured out how to smuggle one out of Sea World yet. :scratchin

We walked through the Shark Encounter which was swarmed with people. So we just kind of walked fast through it. We also went over to the manatees which are my favorite. It’s just so amazing that something that big eats heads of cabbage and lettuce. They look like they eat 100 penguins a day.

After that we went over to the Hospitality House to partake in free beer. Now, I’m not a beer fan but I love anything free. We tried several different kinds and there was a mixture of one that had a long name (a name I can’t remember…something with Winter and Ale in it) and was quite tasty. We had a good time and just sat people watching. The funniest thing I saw was a double stroller that had a kid in it and the mom in it too!! The dad was pushing it. I have to admit, I was a little envious (Colton said not to get my hopes up). :rolleyes1

Next we headed over to the Sting Ray area where you can pet and feed the Sting Rays. I heard about a dozen people make the comment that they weren’t sticking their hands in there because they could be killed like Steve Irwin which I thought was a little ridiculous. We got some shrimp to feed to the Sting Ray and I had a great time although I always dropped the shrimp when they came to eat it as it’s a little intimidating holding your hand under water and watching ten Sting Rays heading your way fast to grab the shrimp. It was so neat to touch them and watch how graceful they are.

Now this is when we see something that made me sick to my stomach. Across the tank on the other side a girl of about 10-12 was standing over the tank and punching into the water trying to hit the Sting Rays! I only noticed because apparently she got one as all of this splashing was going on in front of her by the Sting Rays. And her and her family were laughing!! I was shocked :scared1: . Luckily an employee came over and talked to her but as soon as the employee walked away the girl was trying to grab them and lift them out of the water! The employee came back and I saw security heading over to the area as we were leaving. How sad. :sad2:

Anyways, it was almost time to leave and I had one more show I wanted us to see before we left. We headed over to Blue Horizons at 5:45 p.m. and it was breathtaking. You really must see it if you’re ever at Sea World. It has dolphins, whales, birds, high divers, and much more all put together.

It was getting dark and the park was closed so we headed out to our car. We got back to the Poly at about 6:45 p.m. (Ok moment of grossness I just killed a HUGE spider on my keyboard :badpc: , sorry back to the trip). We unpacked and Colton LOVED the rooms. He just went on and on about everything. We were in the Tokelau building Room #1942 on the first floor (which I was disappointed about as I had requested balcony but loved the great pool view anyways). It was my first time at the Poly since the refurbishment of the rooms and I must say they’re gorgeous. I love everything about them (although I do miss the double sinks princess: ).

We changed for dinner and got back in the car (and I’m starting to get sick of the driving by this point :car: ). We drove to Animal Kingdom Lodge for our 8 p.m. ADR at Jiko. This resort is so beautiful, especially at night. We had some time to kill before we could check in for our ADR so we walked around taking pictures and I bought one of those cute giraffe statues from the gift shop. We went down to Jiko at about 7:50 p.m. to check in and waited. And waited. And waited.

We were sat at about 8:30 p.m. in the wine room. It was so peaceful and quiet in there! We loved it! Our waiter (I think his name was Bill) was amazing. He brought us fresh hot towels to clean our hands with (I’m always a fan of a hot towel). Colton ordered the specialty margarita which he said was delicious (I didn’t order an alcoholic drink as I had forgotten my ID and didn’t want to order a drink and then be asked for it and looked at like I was trying to get away with something when I said I didn’t have it on me, but that’s just me). We ordered the Taste of Africa (an assortment of African breads and dipping sauces) and the Olive flatbread for all four of us to share as an appetizer. All three of them had the Short ribs and I had the Durban Shrimp Curry as I don’t eat beef or pork. We all LOVED our meals. Very delicious. (BTW Bill was so great at explaining each dish and what was in each of them and the origin of the dish. He was wonderful). We finished the meal with the Apple Streusel for us all to share (mainly because I wanted it). Colton pretty much ate all of it as my parents were too full and I didn’t realize there were raisins in it and I’m not crazy about raisins.

Our meal took about two hours but it was a nice pace and felt good not to be rushed and to enjoy the dinner. My parents and I were nervous about eating here as we had tried Boma in May 2004 and very much disliked it but thought we would give Jiko a try. I’m glad we did because it is now a must do for me!! Wonderful meal! I’m not sure what the bill was as Colton was paying for the food on this trip and I was paying for everything else but my mom still had her DDE card from our last trip and saved 20% so I’m sure that helped. Ok, I just went and got the receipt from that dinner. After tip and the discount we paid $167.16 for the four of us. Worth every penny IMO (especially since they weren't my pennies! :teeth: ).

After dinner we had planned on visiting the other resorts to see the decorations but decided to do it the next night as we were all tired and it was already 10:30 p.m. We drove back to the Poly and it felt so good to get in bed! ( I also set the wake up call again!). Already it felt like our vacation was going too fast.

Up next: Going to MK and MGM EMH’s, lunch at Tony’s @ MK, dinner at Crystal Palace @ MK, the Osborne lights, did Colton hear the wake up call?, where did all of these people come from?, another surprise!, and much more!!

**I’m turning in the pictures tomorrow to be developed. I also will try to get some of our Photopass pictures on here tomorrow because it’s always better with pictures!!**

Thanks for following along everyone!!

keep going!

The Comedy Club is pretty much all we ever do at PI. I've tried to get everyone into the Adventurers Club but they're anti-participation so we never go. The Comedy Club has 5 shows a night and it's improv so it's a different show every time. Some shows are funnier than others.

Sorry to hear about that job situation.

Thanks Raoul...Do you think I could be a Cabana girl? Does being a Cabana boy pay well? :teeth: ;)

Just subscribing ... great story so far ... oh and congrats on your engagement!

I love this TR. You describe everything so vividly. Your fiancee sounds like a great guy, and I can't wait to hear how he proposes!

hey I want to hear the rest!! You guys sound like a fun bunch! :teeth: And I have to admit I'm a huge sucker for engagement stories. How exciting

It's coming soon! I had a hunch he was going to propose on this trip as he's not the best at keeping secrets and he's known since the day I met him that I've always wanted to be proposed to at Disney. I wasn't sure he was going to do it as the days kept going by and I just knew that if he had the ring on him surely he would want to get it over with in the first few days. Apparently not. :teeth:

Thanks again everyone for reading along! Day 4 will be up tomorrow (well today actually as it's almost 2 a.m. ) and I hope to have at least some pictures up next week as I'm going out of town this weekend. Oh and thanks too for the congratulations! We're very excited!

I think you'd make an excellent cabana girl. :thumbsup2 You gotta wear the tiara.

Pay isn't that great, to be honest. The upkeep on those sequined thongs is harder than you might think. Suffice to say nobody likes a sequined thong that looks like it has the mange. But the fringe benefits of being a cabana boy are AWESOME.

And congratulations on the proposal / engagement. My son's band director proposed to his girlfriend last night at the end of their Christmas concert.

[Shameless Plug] And I finally finished the trip report from our Oct. trip. Check out my sig for links. [/Shameless Plug]

Ok, I lied. An update will be here tomorrow, I promise! In the meantime here's a few pictures that my mom took with her digital camera (and they better be appreciated because it took me two days to figure out how to resize a picture ;) :teeth: ):
