DW and I are going for her birthday Oct 1st and 2nd. This is the first time leaving our 8, 6, and 2 yo at home. We're pinching ourselves at the thought of not having to push a stroller around the park and having to do parent exchanges and rock paper scissoring for who has to stay with the 2 year old.

That said, we have absolutely no clue as to making the most of our stay without the kiddos. What are some must do's for adults? how would you spend your days if you didn't have kids in tow?

Hubby and I do a couple of trips a year without our son (4). We:

Ride all the big rides that our son either won't or can't ride.
Go see Aladdin.
Eat a meal or two at BB, Carthay Circle, or Steakhouse 55
Hang out and have drinks in DTD, Hearthstone Lounge in GCH or Trader Sam's

Just straight enjoy not having to push a stroller, worry about melt-downs, or miss rides, etc....going without kids can be a serious blast!!!

Got reservations at BB already, We rarely if ever eat in the park so this is a big deal for us.
We're definitely looking to splurge a bit more than normal since its just the 2 of us.

Shopping, too...I LOVE being able to browse the shops and look at some of the higher-end items without worrying about my son pulling me in every direction, or watching him like a hawk so he doesn't break anything! :teeth:

Will Pirates be open when you go to BB? I don't think it's the same without the boats going.
Also the Big Thunder Ranch BBQ will be closing, my husband and I went last week for the first time and loved it!

All of my trips are adult only trips and some of the things we like to do are:

Head to Trader Sam's after the park for drinks and snacks
Carthay Circle Lounge or Cove Bar for a midday beverage in DCA
Go on all the "big" rides over and over again!
Meeting characters or character breakfasts can also be fun with an adult only party
See a show (Alladin, etc.) your kiddos might not always sit through.
Mad T-Party

Have a great trip!

Have a relaxing brunch at Riverbelle Terrace and people watch from the patio!

Take lots of cute couples pictures!

Have fun!!

Is there anything you've always wanted to do but have not gotten around to doing (either because of the kids or because of time restraints)? If so, now is your chance! And get as many photos of yourselves as possible -- you and your kids will treasure those photos later on. Do the dining packages for F! and WOC -- fun, romantic, and so much easier with just adults. Have a silhouette made of just you two together. Have a great trip!

If you want to splurge on dining, definitely go for the chef's counter at Napa Rose!

My husband and I make it a point to do one Dapper Day adults only trip a year so we get all fancily dressed and just slow down on our park touring. We do a Carthay Circle or Napa Rose nice long dinner, drinks at Uva bar, ride ToT and the rollercoasters our kids would not enjoy/are not tall enough for, sit and people watch when we feel like taking a break, browse the shops at a nice slow pace, if we're on site we get room service for breakfast and take our time getting coffee in the morning. I think next trip we'll probably try a wine tasting at DCA and maybe do one of the DL tours. We also take time to meet local friends in DTD for drinks/dinner one night as well. We really take our time and not try to pack in too much, but also we are able to close down the parks, which has been really nice to stay later than the fireworks every once in awhile. Long meals, and no stroller maneuvering has been a very welcome change!

I hope you two enjoy your trip :goodvibes

Trader Sam's is a must on our trips! We love the drinks, food and the tropical atmosphere!

Trader Sam's!! It's a must! By the way, that's me on the bottom right in the picture above drinking a shrunken zombie head minus the souvenir glass. Disneyluvr2 is drinking a Kablui (not sure how you spell it) and lcasa had...well, I don't remember, but it was good. They were all good, and so were the appetizers! You can see a little of the chicken lettuce wraps on the table.

Ok, now that I've underscored all of the recommendations for Trader Sam's, I will also recommend Napa Rose. If you don't want to spend a ton of money, just go for dessert. The desserts are incredible and you can get a nice table in the lounge. We like to be near the fireplace.

We also used to love the port and chocolate tasting at the Wine Bar next to Trattoria in DCA. They no longer do that, sadly, but last I heard they still did port and cheese tasting. I know they do wine flights. It's really fun, and the...what's the wine expert called? Sommelier? That person can give you a super fun experience. Ours (we've done it 3 times) gave us lots of cool info and stories, plus many 'extra' tastes. I assume that's due to our beauty and gregarious natures :D

I don't have any recommendations. But, I'm enjoying this thread. Taking a solo trip October 3-7. First trip to DL in 30 years. Can't wait! Thanks everyone for the info thus far!

Oh, if you're not too tired, close out the park! It's so peaceful walking out of the parks with hardly anyone else around.

How about a tour? I've done three at WDW and enjpyed them all. Haven't done any DL tours, though, but I bet they're fun!

Great idea!!! I've always wanted to do the horticulture tour. It sounds like fun. :)
