Adults Only Hilton Head in May

My DH and I decided to make use of our points for a quiet, low-key trip to celebrate our 24th anniversary. We've reserved a 1 bedroom for our 6 day May trip. We plan on utilizing the kitchen for breakfast and lunch, but dinner is definitely going to be at a restaurant. (Or how could I call it a vacation ) Please, please...anyone have restaurant advice? For dinner in general, but for a special occasion in particular? Also, any ideas for day trips, historical sites, etc.? Thanks !

The old fort pub is the name I think. This is in all the books as most romantic place. Also try to go over to the FRosty Frog for some frozen drinks. This is in the plazza down by Sea Pines circle. If you nead more info Pm me.

You will love SAVANNAH!!

Savannah is about about 30-40 minutes by car. It is a most ideal town laid out in a beautiful park setting. There are 300 year old oak trees with spanish moss hanging down. The tree canopy is so thick that you can't see the sky in some places. It is soooo.... romantic. It is ideal for anniversaries. Take 17 to and from Savannah instead of I95.

The city is filled with antique shops, and art galleries, and quaint bistros and sidewalk cafes. There are also trolley buses everywhere.

We ate one night at the Chart House on River Street in Savannah. It was pricey, but delicious. The Savannah Candy company is also on River Street and they give away really good homemade pralines. Paula Dean's restaurant is also in Savannah (not on River Street) but you have to get their like at 9am to get a table for lunch.

Disney does a great job with the Carolina Marsh / fishcamp theme at the HH resort. We didn't go to the beach until our last day and about kicked ourselves. It is absolutely beautiful. (I'm generally not a beach bunny, so that is why we put it off.)

The dolphin tour and Big Murggie's Den is fantastic.

Pet Shadow for me. He is quite the dog!

You've gotten good suggestions already. I would add CQs at Harbour Town in Sea Pines. Old Fort Pub is my favorite. Charley's Crab is also consistently good. For more casual, try the Old Oyster Factory (you can see it across the marsh from Disney) and the Crazy Crab (the one on the right just as you cross onto the Island, not the one in Harbor Town).

In addition to Savannah, Beaufort is a great little coastal town - worth the 45 minute drive. Parts of Forrest Gump and the Big Chill were shot in areas there.

I really appreciate your advice. (The DIS boards rule!) I checked out the Old Fort Pub online and it looks like a good candidate for our anniversary dinner. But we are also definitley going to check out Savannah...looks like lots of fun to be had there. My DH is looking forward to the biking, kayaking, fishing at HHI. But thanks to you I can sell him on the good food and drink too.

We were in HH this past August at a conference. Consequently, stayed at Marriott instead of DVC.

We went to "Kingfisher" (I think it was) one night, but did not stay for dinner as it looked a notch below what we were aiming for. Upon the advice of a concierge, we drove a little and had an awesome meal at Charley's Crab. It's on the northern end of the island, I believe. Not exactly cheap, but our meal was fantastic and the decor/views are very nice. If you're looking for a nice night out, I'd suggest trying it.

We were at HH this summer, and went to a restaurant called The Sage Room Restaurant (on Pope Ave) located at Heritage Plaza. I is one of the most popular restaurants with the locals. It was the best place that we have been to at HH over the past 8 years. Reservations are a must, and try and sit at the chef's table. If you do a search on the Sage Room you will find a lot of great reviews (from many different sites).

Try the Crabbing adventure run by a family in Shelter Cove Marina-got the coupon out of the little tourist book. at $20 each it was a bargain-

We had spent $200+ for a disney fishing trip and caught nothing-the captain felt bad, but still it was a bad investment.

The restaurant right outside the gate (on the right side as you come in) had a great happy hour special with drinks and shrimp-enjoyed walking up to there.

Had a overpriced night at the oyster factory-will not make the trip back there.

WALMART- stopped there and bought shrimp on the way in-very fresh and sweet. We did want to have some food in the room. Publix was high $$ and out of our way- Walmart on the way in stocked our kitchen for the week with great seafood.

Take advantage of the storyteller- he is great.
Enjoy the drink of the day-
Chat up the CM's, they are young and eager to talk about their colleges-great sports chat.
Do all the little resort free-bees. The CM have a wealth of knowledge about the land and sea.
Buy a couple of cheap lawn chairs and sit in the tide. It was so relaxing-and I did not have the daily fee to rent. (chairs were $9. ea, fee was higher for 1 day!)

We just enjoyed being adults and moving at our pace-plenty of time to reconnect!
