Adults Only areas

My husband and I are two adults with no children; we are a family.
And that’s great! I would never insinuate you are not a family!

in my original post, I was simply notifying all not to assume children can go into the district all times during the day, and that there is a lack of consistency on board that frustrates me.

I have found this rather disappointing as Disney is marketed as a “family cruise line“, and there seems to be a large amount of adult only areas or activities that don’t necessarily need to be exclusive to adults, though I do understand some parents wanting alone time.
From your original post. As a family of two adults, we think that there are more spaces available to all ages. I check the DCL Navigator in the app for activities in which I might be interested. There are far more labeled as all ages vs adults only during the day (not counting alcohol upcharge tastings), including some taking place during the day in the adults only locations. I like to attend whatever appeals to me no matter the ages.

However, one of my earliest cruises (2007?) had an adults only animation class. Another guest felt her 14 year old son (she stated his age) should be allowed to participate when the CM reminded her this was for the 18+ group. This woman started shrieking (no exaggeration) at the CM and then confronted everyone else in the room asking if we had a problem with it. Since I was relatively new to DCL, I didn't speak up. After that incident, I told my husband I will say something if someone carries on like that again. Thankfully, no one has taken advantage of a CM like that in front of me since that time.

I have seen the selective enforcement with children. Sometimes within several minutes at the same venue.

I imagine it is tough for the CMs to hold the line and also be welcoming. I feel bad for them in some ways.

My personal view is as long as the children are not causing issues I don’t mind if they are there. I do not want to hear screaming children or babies in the adult only venues. Also, please don’t make the CMs at Trivia or wherever else jobs harder because now they have to worry about something being appropriate or not for children. But I have no issue with a kid sitting in Ale and Compass or Nightingales while I enjoy my drink and listen to the piano or watch the game.

Palo/Remy/Enchante I find different… they are long experiences, and it is unfair to expect children to behave appropriately for that amount of time, therefore, please do not let them in at all.

The problem is that Disney can't selectively allow "well behaved" children into those spaces while excluding others. Anyone whose children aren't allowed will feel insulted and complain about unfair treatment. It's just a mess better avoided by enforcing the rules.

Because it is in an adult-only area and there is a coffee bar option available in a non-adult only area.
Which they changed from the Wonder and Magic. All other ships you can get fancy coffee else where.

On the Wish they tried to fix kids going though the adult area but than made it to small. No way that is a swimming pool…lol

So if you are on them (I thought there was a place TBH), either one adult go and get the fancy coffees, go when your kids are in the club, or if you absolutely 100% cannot go without them, you go in and out. No lingering.

I sailed with my DD earlier this year, 2mo before she turned 18. She (and I) know the rules, and she didn't step foot into the adult areas. However, she definitely felt "aged out" of Vibe, which skewed toward the younger end of the age bracket that cruise. She lamented that she couldn't go into Quiet Cove, b/c she just wanted to lay on a lounger in a quiet area and listen to music. Our two go-to lounging spots ended up being Deck 4 and the area above Quiet Cove (deck up). The latter was nice b/c I could grab drinks and snacks from Cove Cafe easily. Neither area is very popular with kids, unless you plant yourself right next to shuffleboard on 4. I don't think she'd been on 4 more than a few minutes in her prior cruises, so your DD may also find new-to-her spaces that suit her more mature tastes. :)

If I had a do-over, I might rethink cruising that close to her 18th birthday. However, 16 is very different than nearly-18 (esp if the near-18yo is a senior in high school about to graduate). Enjoy the time with her!

Mine are 13 and 15 and the only places i wish they could to but they cannot is the gym (alone) and the Rainforest room. My DD loves coming with me to the spa at home. I know there is the Chill spa but it would be nice to be able to experience it together. That being said, i totally get why they don't want a bunch of kids running around and I'm glad that there places just for adults. I love my kids but a little time to myself is nice too.

Not sure why this double posted! Ignore.

I believe you are right, there is a fancy coffee location in an "all ages" area on the Wish. Wishing Star Cafe on deck 4 is for anyone.

There's Vista Cafe on the Dream and Fantasy, too. I'm not aware of an all-ages cafe on the Magic and Wonder, though.

During the day French Quarter Lounge is an all ages venue. Was packed for the majority of my cruise with coffee drinkers and activities.

Wouldnt the best way to avoid the mess is for some people to stop acting "entitled" and follow the rules? Then a CM wouldnt have to intervene and could just be the wonderful people they are.

Enchanted Sword too. it's the same location but one deck up (or down, don't remember which direction).

I'm guessing restricting under 18's from the adult areas is because people will talk and act a certain way which would be inappropriate around younger folks. I might even being occasionally taken aback but I also can drop an occasional colorful metaphor. The only kids I like to avoid are the rambunctious and the miserable. We like our cabins to be aft but I will walk to another set of elevators or stairs to avoid coming up into the family and play areas because on the older ships these areas are so loud. They seem to have solved the volume issue on the Wish. The Wish was the first DCL cruise ship I could enjoy the Funnel Vision. We were in Bingo where a small girl scream cried thru the whole first half. The mother ignored her because the kid only trying to get her way, whatever that was. I get what was going on and why the mother reacted a certain way but it was annoying.

Yes, that's kind of how I feel as well. When we have been on NCL, our daughter hangs out in the adults only pool and we have never been scolded for it. Maybe it's because she looks much older than she is. But my hubby is definitely bummed that she can't be in the adults only pool in DCL.
Those of us without kids like having an area that is adults only and actually enforced though. NCL handles this very poorly IMO and your example provides more evidence of that.

I’m in the process of planning a Disney cruise and everyone has assured me that DCL is pretty good at enforcing their adult only areas.

I have no issue seeing well behaved children in areas of the ship where they are allowed but they don’t belong in the adult areas.

Not sure what people don't understand about the two words "Adults Only". If you don't like the rules find another cruise line.
This. If NCL allows it, then perhaps that's the line the OP should stick with. Unless their "older looking" 16 year old looks 30+. I'd expect to be asked for the card.

I have seen them ask for KTTW cards in the adult pool area (on the Magic and on the Dream) and ask those either under 18 to leave or if they just don't have their card to get it and bring it back. (In the latter case, the 2 girls left - I think one was legitimately allowed but the other wasn't and so "didn't have her card" because they left and didn't come back.) It was done very professionally - the requesting the card.
