Adults going to MNSSHP; Are you going in costume? Share your pics here

No photos yet, but I got a rather elaborate ballerina style (HUGE sticking out tutu) outfit on ebay, and I made some big soft sculpture matte gold wings. I used the extra gold material to sew 'leaves' intersperced in the tutu, too.

(Say THAT three ties fast!) :rotfl2:

I also sewed a pocket in the back of the wings, and in it will be a fancy LED flashlight thingy with variable color settings. Attached to that (and will be tacked onto the wings and hang down) are up to 6 feet long long fiber optic filaments.

So basically a somewhat trippy looking fairy. The light effects are nothing short of amazing.

That would be something to see! Wow love all the detail you put into that!

I've gone as a fairy princess (full ball gown, 6ft wings) and the Dread Pirate Roberts (black and black with a little more black, and one of the 'coins' from PotC). Both costumes ended up being too hot.

I'm just now gathering materials for this year. I'm going to be Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon 2. I have one set of wings that expand to 60 inches but collapse to 24. I'm working on the designs for a second set that will collapse smaller (because someone might want to see around me during the parade;)). I just got blue EL (light up) wire for the wings and back of the dress.

Wow the creativity is amazing! Would love to se a picture of that when you get it done.

looks as if I will have a project in front of me. I guess I am going to have to think of what to dress up as. This sounds like a lot of fun!

We're headed to a TON of parties, spanning over 2 trips this year lol, we're doing
-MiSiCi parade costumes
-Gaston & Bimbettes
-Disney Fairies (rosetta, periwinkle, terrance & Zarina)
-A random night of whichever costumes we have
Then in Oct we have a Frozen theme & a Peter & Wendy night!

Last year: I was Tink (with my Mom as Peter & her friend as Cruella)

And Wendy:

In previous years Mom & I went as Alice & the White Rabbit:

While the Bff & I did Tink & Peri:

Dressing up makes the parties SO much more fun! You still have a blast if you don't but halloween is such a fun time so why not get completely into it, right?!

DH and I will be at the September 28th party. We are going as Johnny Fedora and Alice Blue Bonnet. I'm wondering if anyone will recognize these obscure Disney characters? This old school Disney cartoon is one of our favorites!

Basically, we are going to dress in black, with our "hats" as the costumes. I'm thinking we may do iron on lettering on the front (or back) of our shirts with our names. Any-who, once I finish making the fedora and bonnet, I'll post pics. We are pretty excited, they should turn out cute. :)

I'm pretty proud of the dalmation costume, too - I bought some spotted dalmation fleece off the internet, and also some big red rick rack. My Mom whipped up a pair of long shorts and a vest, with red rick rack trim on the shorts hem. I made her a red 'collar' from an old cloth belt (shortened it and it attaches with velcro), sewed her a tote bag from extra fabric with the rest of the belt as the strap, and extra red rick rack makes a big "P" in front (for "Perdita"). I took and old headband and covering it with the dalmation fabric, made droopy ears. Last and best of all, I found red fire hydrant buttons for the front of the vest!

She'll be the cutest 88 year old there!

My sister hand made her own Cruella costume, and we saved her some dalmation fabric to make a fur stole for it. I really hope we can catch Cruella after one of the Villians shows and get their photo together.

Please tell me you'll be there on Sept. 28th! I think your Mom is going to be quite the celebri-dog that night. ::yes::

This thread is making me so excited!

Katt: Your costumes are impressive, you are very pretty, but I LOVE YOUR MOM. She is so cute!

Horse & Cookie: Dang, I'm going to miss both your dates! We'll be there Tues Oct 21st. I'm hoping it will be cooler by then, though none of our costumes are very heavy.

I LOVED the ghost costumes (sorry can't remember poster's name) but they look hot for Sept, hoping for a cool evening for you as they are amazing.

For the Mom who is not crafty, take your daughter to a Goodwill or two and you'll get some great ideas. You can take a teal prom type dress, add a few sew on snowflakes and you've got Elsa. (Or a pink one for Aurora, etc) A few dollar store accessories and you're marvelous, darling! 13 is a great age to get crafty; you just have to help them get some basic materials.

Also there is a Disneybounding site which is adorable and filled with cute ideas for 'sort of' costumes you can wear any day. http://disneybound.tumblr.com/

I had to go to YouTube to see this, and even though it's apparently about the same age as I am, I don't remember ever having seen it. It's wonderful though, and I think your idea is SO creative!!

You guys look like you're having a great time, and your mom looks like so much fun. My mom would have loved to do that kind of thing, I think, if she had the opportunity.

Again, another mother that sounds like more fun than I can imagine! I hope all of you have a terrific time!! :cool1:

I'm thrilled to have gotten Husband (capitalized because that's how I refer to him, even when talking to him - it's like his name) to agree to the ghost costume. Getting him to progress to an actual Disney character will take a few more years, LOL. :lmao: I think we should just spend the rest of our vacation in costume hanging around the Haunted Mansion and see if anyone notices us.

I am going to be Ariel. Had a costume custom made on Etsy and the top I bought from a mermaid for hire. for a cruise ship theme night with the Backstreet Boys. Here I am as Ariel with AJ. My friend actually told me that the adults who dress up for disney ruin the experience from the children as MNSSHP are for the CHILDREN. Whatever. lol I am excited and I paid an absolute you know what for that costume. *hoping to wear it for a BOG ressie if I can snag one before the party*

My DD & I usually dress up & my DH wears a Tshirt that matches us. But since we go in Sept. & it's sooooo HOT, we keep it simple & cool! I'm still in the planning phase right now. Everyone's ideas & costumes are awesome here!

Thank you! I can't sew much so my costumes are all built together with common items. This one is a black maxi dress with added tail wings and then the dragon wings added to the back. If your DD doesn't want collapsing/expanding wings she could make simple fairy wings in black (and the right shape) -> http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Fairy-Wings Of course, I'm saying those are simple wings because I've made them 5 times while I'm only on my second try with the expandable wings. :P

Point is: it doesn't matter if you're crafty, at 13 she's plenty old enough to start making stuff herself. :)

I agree, but I fear her crafty genes (or lack there of) came from me:rolleyes1. Her sister on the other hand, she might could do it. ha.

You look amazing!!!! This is what I was actually leaning towards and found several tops for sale on Etsy. I just wondered if it was too over the top for the parks. Have you seen many others dressed as the Mermaid Ariel?

Thank you!!! You can't see the mermaid skirt in the photo but I am hoping that my costume isn't too over the top for the parks...EXCITED to where it in the MK!!! Ariel is my favorite princess since I was probably in preschool and I always related to how she wanted to be someone different. Being in a wheelchair, I shared those same feelings of feeling ostracized. So when the opportunity became available to dress up like Ariel, I went all out. I even bought two custom wigs because the first one looked too cheezy. I KNOW I KNOW. LOL LMAO. I am crazy.

I am going as the Bride from the Haunted Mansion - I bought a wedding dress on ebay that my crafty friend is altering for me (swapping out the zipper for a corset back so if I eat too many Mickey ice cream bars I will still fit in it!!!) However, I don't know if any one will get that I'm the HM Bride since I'm not going to have an ax...

DH still hasn't decided what he is going to be - last I knew he was thinking about being a Test Track dummie!!!

I cheat when it comes to MNSSHP costumes and reuse bits of costumes I wear for the run disney races. Mostly due to the moisture wicking qualities haha. So for the princess half last year/ October Halloween party, I was a pirate princess. This year I'll be Loki for the 10/3 party and the ToT 10 miler.

Four adults going 9/23 each of us are dressing as a different decade (the 50's 60's 70's and 80's). All costumes under $20 from Goodwill
