Adult pool question

OP - My Mom, myself and my 26 year old younger brother with Down Syndrome (extra chromosomes rock!) sailed on the Dream 2 years ago and we spent a lot of time at the adult pool and up on top at Satellite Falls. No one said a word! From what I remember, the pool isn't deep though, so I don't think jumping will have much appeal anyway. But be sure to take advantage of the waterslides too! If they are anything like my brother, they will love them. Don't overthink it or worry too much - your sons have every right to be in whatever space you choose to be in. Enjoy your cruise!

They're adults, so they have every right to use the adult pool. Some people might not like them to be slightly rambunctious, but that's their problem. That said, I can't remember if jumping in is allowed or not.

The adult pool area is fairly quiet, but it isn't a library. Sometimes you have loud talkers, people drinking a bit too much and laughing loudly, etc.

The family pools tend to be very crowded and are more geared toward children with their parents to use, rather than all adults to use. However, it isn't against any rules for all adults to use the family pool.

Exactly. There have been times when I've seen the adult pool louder and more obnoxious than the family pools.

We’re scheduled to go on the Fantasy. I have to young adult sons, ages 20 and 21 at time of our cruise. Both boys happen to have Down syndrome, and my question is...while they are technically allowed to be in the adult areas and pools, is the adult pool area so quiet that if they get “rambunctious” and maybe want to jump in making a splash, are people going to get upset?
No one is going to tell them they can't be there, they have every right. Having said that I would be very surprised if something isn't said about them jumping in. Lots of people have drinks that sit on the side of the pool and would probably frown on pool water splashing into them. I've often seen people reading while in the pool and would probably frown on the books getting too wet as well. Yes, it can get loud but it's not usually splashy. Last but not least, even if no one in the pool said anything, I would be surprised if the CM's didn't put an end to jumping in because it is so small. The possibility of someone getting hurt would be the driving force for that.
I, personally, would have no problem with them doing their thing however I don't use the pool much, prefer to sit beside it, but be prepared for no jumping. I hope you all have a great cruise, it's a wonderful time.

I am a platinum cruiser and I agree with Lorimay. It is a very quiet Zen environment. Someone may say something and upset you. A quick story...My 12 year old daughter brought something to me in the adult area. A guy walked by and said "Somebody thinks they're all grown up". (meaning my daughter did not belong there, and he was right). I quickly shooed my daughter out of the area. Point is, there is always someone willing to offer unwanted opinions and remarks. I would hate for you to be upset.

The family pool is Very fun and lively!
That was cool of you to acknowledge this. Many parents would be like how darn you say that. Its all about me.

I agree with the previous comments: Your sons are adults and should feel welcomed to take advantage of the adult areas. The adult pool is small and seems really designed for lounging. I have done a bit of swimming when I was the only one in it, but that means getting there early in the morning or on port days. I love the idea of some splash time in Satellite Falls when no one else is up there. It is usually a serene place, but there are many times it's empty. Heck, I'd like some splash time up there! The family pool and the Aqua Duck are a lot of fun and definitely more spirited. I don't think jumping is ever allowed for safety but it's fun to swim around and watch shows on the funnel vision. I hope you all have a wonderful cruise!

At times, not all that often, but I have seen the adult pools get rowdy. A few cruises ago on the Fantasy there were people doing canon balls into the adult pool. It got crazy and CM's had to intervene.

Heck, I remember when back in the day DCL used to have a best legs contest for men at the family pool and all different adult pool games at the adult pool.

That's what I was thinking. Going way back, I've seen belly flop contests and other adult games on the Wonder.

Yep, all kinds of crazy antics by the adult pool. I remember synchronized swimming contests, scavenger hunts, chasing balls, belly flops and even the CM host getting tossed into the pool. It was actually a lot of fun!

On one cruise more recently all the officers actually jumped into the pool in uniform...it was crazy. It was at night. There were about 15 officers in uniform in the adult pool plus other CM's. They were having a ball. I think it was on one of the longer cruises....either a TA or PC cruise.

On our EBPC years ago they did a "crossing the ditch" ceremony for the guests in the main pool then later for the crew who hadn't been through the canal before. That was the jumping into the adult pool with uniforms on. It was hilarious!

Extra chromosomes do rock, don’t they 💙💛💙💛

I kind of wish they still did this from time to time... it'd be fun to see some of these contests. As it is I feel like the only shenanigans we can count on for the adults is in the bars...

I have never seen any organized antics at the adult pool (and I've taken 20 DCL cruises). That is the reason we sail on DCL and not some of the other lines. (I have never been through the canal - so understand that is some kind of "thing" that only happens once each cruise.)

I must not ever get on the cruises with these "fun" adults. LOL I lounge quite a bit at the adult pool area and have not seen any high spirited antics by either guest or crew, but I don't usually go in the evenings. I agree with others that the adult pool is not meant to be a splashing pool like the main pool is. People go in there to get away from those types of antics and just relax with a book or a drink. I think that is the whole point of having and adult only pool, to get away from that. I would also second going up to satellite falls pool. I never see anyone up there.

MJ,
After 45 cruises, I am certain you have seen it all! I love your story!

I am up there more than I am the adult pool area. I see lots of people up there. This is where I would draw the line, I sit in the falls with my book and relax as the water falls all around me. There are lots of people who do just that. People have drinks while sitting there as well. The area itself is small so splashing about in there would be a nightmare IMO.
I think the area is monitored better than the adult area. I once saw a dad try and take his small child there, he put him in the falls to play. A CM showed up in seconds and ask the dad to leave. Dad was not happy and argued but he had to leave. People clapped. I know that the opps children are adults but I don't think it would go over well with splashing about there. Again, this is all JMO.

Adult pool games ended probably around 2003 or 2004.

Pool games were a regular thing on 7 day cruises not just the long cruises. Seeing the officers in the pool was on a longer cruise.
