My Husband and I are going to WDW the end of Nov - beginning of Dec. We're not getting the dining plan. I had gastric bypass surgery 2 years ago and don't eat enough to bother paying for all of that food. I read somewhere on here that you can share a meal but if Hubby Dude wants something I don't want to eat would they allow an adult to order off of the kids menu? Plus, Hubby Dude might want all of his food LOL. One of my concerns is usually the type of food they have for kids isn't all that healthy. Maybe I could just order a side salad? I have to eat small amounts every few hours. I figured I could bring protein bars as my snacks or figure out a way to bring my protein powder to make protein drinks in between our meals.

I had ordered off the kid menu at Rose & Crown cuz I didnt like anything on them menu..it was not a problem

You know, people who don't/won't eat much and ask about ordering from the kids' menu, might instead or also want to consider ordering an appetizer as their entree.

I believe most table service restaurants will allow you to split an entree for a fee.
Last year at Blue Bayou in DLR we paid an extra $5 to split a plate and it was worth it.
It included an extra side salad.
There was plenty of food.
....and don't forget desert.

Shula's is the only restaurant on Disney property that has a meal sharing fee.

You can always order just an appetizer and I've done that many times. You can also order a side salad. You can also ask the server if you can get only side dishes like a baked potato. Disney World servers are more than willing to help you out with whatever you need.

Thank you for the replies.

I didn't think of just getting an appetizer. Great idea, I love appetizers.

I'll probably either get an appetizer or a side salad.

Now the hard part.... deciding what sit down restaurants we want to go to so we can make our ADR's on June 1st. This is like a part time job planning our vacation LOL. I'm lucky that Hubby Dude is into it too and I don't have to decide everything.

Thank you again everyone :goodvibes

Well looks like I didn't have to worry about this after all. Hubby Dude just got off the phone with Disney, he booked our trip just now and decided he wanted the dining plan :confused3 Oh well, I guess I'll just be wasting a lot of food.

I seem to recall having read that if you've had GP, with a physician's note, you can order kid buffets instead of regular price. Guess it won't matter if you do teh DDP....

I've ordered an appy as my entre all over WDW and never had a problem. I sometimes order a salad with it, and I usually order dessert. I simply can't eat the huge amounts of food Disney puts on plates, and I hate to waste it and/or pay for it.

I once had a chef at one of the better Disney restaurants tell me that "the menu is a guide. If you tell us what you would prefer and how you prefer it, we'll do our best to make it happen." So they'll do all they can to accommodate your wishes.

I haven't had gastric bypass but I am just not a big eater. I have ordered kids meals with no problem but like others have suggested I find that ordering a side salad and a appetizer is lots of times a great meal. I count carbs because I am diabetic so avoiding the starch that comes with a full meal usually will allow me to split a dessert with DH or DD sometimes. Of course the buffets, this won't work. I pay full price and just figure that DD and DH are eating more than enough to justify the cost. They are both pretty healthy eaters!

I am so glad that WDW has the kids meals available to the adults as well! There was this one meal, grilled chicken with assorted veggies that we got at MGM, delicious! And the best part? It was more than enough to tide over both me and my daughter until we got back to our hotel where we both got spagetti and meatballs kids meals that filled us up...lol

I would rather do the kids meal than a dining plan anytime:) $30 for us both to eat all day as opposed to $40 just for me for a couple meals and snack...no thanks:) I'm good:)
