Really debating whether to go dining plan or not. We are family of 6 (kids age 9, 6, 5, 3) going land and sea in March. My real concern is with the kids menu's. As I've looked, particularly at the TS restaurants, but even some of the more unique QS, it appears that the kids menu consists of the regular kids favorites (hot dogs, chicken fingers, healthy = turkey dog/turkey burger). Unfortunately most of my kids don't prefer those. And would prefer steak, salmon, sushi, etc. Does it make sense to get an adult plan for one of my kids, can you even do that? Unfortunately/fortunately the 3 year old just makes the cut (3 in Dec), good for kids club on disney cruise, not good for lodging/tickets at WDW. Dining plan would work for her, and the 5 yo, but the 9&6 regularly order off of the adult menu when dining at home. Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When DD was 8, I had called and had her age changed to 10. I had to pay adult prices for her (both dining plan and ticket), but we were going to be on the dining plan for 14 nights, and she never really ate "kid" foods. Her primary food request that trip was to try escargot. I do think the kid menus are better now in that they all have a healthy choice, typically chicken or fish.

My dilemma was with lying and having my kid lie, so we did everything above board. I told them why I was changing her age when I called and they were fine with that. At restaurants when the waitress asked her age, she always said 8, and then I chimed in with, "but we'll be using adult dining credits." There were a few times when she wanted the kids meals, and that was great, because we were able to pay out of pocket for that meal and save her credits for another meal.

Where are you looking at where they only had "kid food" items? I'm just asking because most of the restaurants I'm looking at have steak/fish/seafood/chicken options for kids as well as kid favorites. If you look in the mickey check meal section a lot of them have grilled proteins. You are not obligated to order that meal as it comes either - how it comes just meets the nutritional guidelines. You can sub out sides if you don't want brown rice or whatever comes with it and get a dessert other than the fruit cup. There may be a few exceptions but I am pretty sure that most of the adult TS that feature a steak on the adult menu also have it on the kid menu, just usually under the Mickey Check section.

Also you do not have to order kids QS meals... they don't separate out the credits between adults and kids. you can order 6 adult meals if you wish. I would take a second look and make sure it is worth it to upgrade. It might be more worth it for the $40 difference a day to order your kids an occasional app to supplement the kid's meal if needed.

You would also have to pay the adult ticket price if part of a package.

the discount for kids is so teeny nowadays it barely matters. I think the $40 a day is a much bigger deal.

Well that changes quite a bit. I don't need to be adding more to the bill. Guess back to the drawing board of picking specific restaurants, looking at menus and seeing where we might deviate from the kids menu. Thanks all for responding.

It is still information that should be shared as all information should be taken into consideration.

As a note, on the DxDDP, our daughter was often told that her credits were good for adult meals as well. You might look into whether that plan works for you. If you'd like I can share some of the locations where she was given that option.

Nice. Short and sweet. I'm beginning to lean that way. Load up some gift cards and apply to our hotel account. Then just scan away with the magic bands. We'll see, I've got some time to decide. Thx all for the responses.

you have to apply to your hotel account after you spend it, not before... so you have to make sure to pay off your charges before they apply them to your credit card on file.
