I'm going down in November with some family friends and thier son has CP and is non ambulatory (with a rather long list of other things)... he and I plan on spending a day together without his mum and dad around ( the first time ever for him while at disney world) hes in diapers my concern is that there wont be any place for me to change him I know that theres the baby care station in MK by the first aide place... what they ahve there is it suitable to hold a 160 lb 23yr old? and what about the other parks he and I plan on park hopping cause its something his folks never do with him when they are down there...
He seems very excited that he and I are going off on our own and I dont want to have to tell him we cant because there wont be any place for me to take him...Going back to the hotel is out of the question because they have a house down there so they arent staying on property....
Thank for the help!

I don't think the Child Care places are going to work for you. I had trouble with a two year old on the small changing tables provided in AK!

I can only think of this: Bring some sort of protective pad with you and use the floor of the family bathrooms. They are private, of course, not the communal bathrooms where everyone goes.

the only problem with that is he can only do a pivot transfer... so getting him down on the ground and back up again by myself is very difficult we usually use a hoyer lift for him because hes so big but ive done pivot transfers with him before so doing that onto a table would be very easy...

You will find what you need at First Aid. There is a First Aid at each park and they are marked well on the park maps.
here's something I posted on another thread:
There is a First Aid Center in each park and each First Aid Center has cubicles with a cot, a bedside table and a chair and privacy curtains that can be pulled shut. The cots in the cubicles are sort of like at this website, but they have shorter legs and look a lot more sturdy.

First Aid Centers also have some rooms that are more like doctor's office exam rooms. We have not used one of those rooms, but have looked in them (and some other posters have written about using them). They have a lot more space, an exam table that can be raised and lowered in height, a sink and a door that can be shut for privacy. That would probably be a better place for you to use.

I second the advice Sue posted about the First Aid centers. My son is a teenager and the cubicles worked out very well. We were able to give him a break out of his chair to lay down, take care of tube feedings, diaper changes etc. The First Aid centers made our trip a lot smoother and I would definitely recommend them. Have a great trip!

Thanks guys! I wasnt sure what I was going to do if I couldnt find a place to change him hes so looking forward to just him and I time! I'm so excited about this trip and spending time with him because hes such a disney lover like me! :cool1:

Just a few questions about the first aid station though.... do I just go in and say that I need to change him? Do they happen to have hoyer lift there for use? I mean i can pivot transfer but that would be a little easier...

Thanks again! :sunny:

Exactly. They are very nice and they will show you to a room that you can use. Just tell them what you need.

I don't think they do, but don't know for sure. Perhaps someone else knows for sure. If you use the 'exam' type rooms, they have tables that can be adjusted in height. That might work better for you because you would be able to adjust the table to be the best height for him to transfer to.
