Hi
Ok if I'm going to get stared at for this, I guess this is the board to do it! DH and I are back to WDWnext year and we have no kids. I have once plucked up the courage to have pics taken with characters and felt a bit of a twit doing it (but glad when I saw the pics).

Now is there anyone out there who has been to a character buffet without kids? Do you get stared at / comments etc? I am a real wimp when it comes to people criticising and would hate to pay good money then find I dont enjoy it as it isn't 'the done thing' to do.

Help please!

My husband and I have been to character meals before and we have no children. We feel very comfortable. I have never noticed that we were stared at for being adults only, and I certainly didn't hear any comments. I would suggest that if you want to do a character meal--DO IT. Everyone is on vacation to enjoy themselves--enjoy yourself--go see the characters--and take LOTS of pictures. Character meals are for everyone, not just for the little ones!:thumbsup2

You should not feel uncomfortable at all! Remember, Everyone's "a child" at Walt Disney World, from 3 to 93 ! :)
My wife and I, and at other times with other 'adult couples' -all with no children, have had great fun at various character buffets!

99.9% of those there MAY take notice of how much you're enjoying yourselves, but not the fact that there are not any children at your table ! :)

ALL the times I've been to character buffets were without kids. I didn't notice anyone staring at me. Most people are busy watching the characters or interacting with their own family.

If you worry too much about what other people might think, you miss out on living a full life. Enjoy the special atmosphere at WDW and don't waste the opportunity by being overly self-conscious. The mood is light-hearted and fun, and one thing I like best there is that it's OK for adults to have fun and visit with characters.

hey no problems at all from the parents. now the kids have gotten very upset to see me alone.....:lmao:

they will ask where my kids (or grandkids) are - when I say I am alone - sometimes they get so upset. or confused:confused3

I have a good time.

love the food and characters at Cape May Cafe.

once when I was solo - the characters (especially Goofy - my favorite) were not coming over to us. When the FS asked why I was still there - I replied that Goofy had not been by. when he finally came over (then) the people in the next booth applaused (they were waiting too).:rolleyes1

so being solo can help - especially if you are braver solo - and I think you might be surprised how brave you can be!!!!

My boyfriend and I went last year without kids, and we're doing the same this time.

Crystal Palace breakfast is my favourite way to start a Disney trip!

Hubby and I always make plans for one character meal per trip. (We don't have kids.) We think it's fun....the characters have fun with us, just as they do at children's tables. As another poster said, everyone is busy eating, watching their children, or flagging down characters, so you won't be stared at. Unless you're trying to hog all the characters at your table! ;)

Thankyou for all the replies. I thought I would have to persuade DH to do this but when I asked him if he fancied having breakfast with Tigger he looked & acted like a big kid! :rotfl2: I guess that's a yes! So we are going to book for Crystal Palace breakfast at the start of our holiday.

My next question is how / when can I book? I know I'm not going till next year but I'm curious. I'm not on a dining plan or staying on site.

Many thanks again!:thumbsup2

SS - I took in my very first character breakfast(s) a few weeks ago - SOLO. It was awesome! In fact, there were so few guests at Park Fare, that Alice and the Mad Hatter sat at my table and gabbed!

I've been to a character meal about 3 times with DH and twice completely solo. It took me about 7 solo trips to get up the courage to do a character meal solo, but once I did, I realised how great it was for a solo. For one thing, and this is true for anyone, no one else is noticing you at a character meal (sorry if you want to be looked at, you won't!)-everyone is just focusing on the characters. And it's so much fun to watch the interaction that time really goes by, you certainly have a great "view" of things to watch. And it really impresses me how "in tune" to your feelings the characters are. On my first solo character meal, I was really shy and just wanted to watch the characters with the kids. After the first visit, the characters would just wave or shake hands as they went by. On my second character meal, I was much "braver" and so were the characters-lots of hugs and interaction-and pictures!

I've done several character meals with NO kids and I LOVED it! The only looks you might get are looks of envy from other parents.. LOL.. the characters focus on the children of families but if you don't have kids they focus on YOU!!!! So *you* will get the interaction.. the photos... and get to play with the characters.

I just booked CP breakfast as a solo for my trip in May, can't wait for that french toast, yummy.
