I'm no fan of birthdays, at least mine. Getting old scares me but that's a whole other story. We just decided on a DL trip for my birthday and needless to say I'm a-ok with celebrating in Disneyland. There are all kinds of places for the little ones to celebrate, but what about adults. Any fun things happen for the adults celebrating at the happy place?

You can get a free birthday button at Guest Services. Many other locations also have the buttons, so if Guest Services has a long line, try asking at a store. Normally, if you're wearing a button, you'll get a fair number of CMs (and a few guests) wishing you a happy birthday. That's about the extent of the free birthday offerings at the parks that you can pretty much count on getting (the button, I mean).

Otherwise, you can purchase a birthday cake and have it delivered to many of the TS locations in the parks and resorts.

Mention that its your birthday at any sitdown restuarant and 90% of the time you'll get a free birthday themed dessert.

Drinks at Trader Sams is always fun.

ALWAYS wear your birthday button in a visible spot. You never know what could happen. I was in front for the rope drop for Frontier Land and my GF and i rode BTMR before the actual rope dropped and by ourselves because a CM noticed it was my Bday. It has since been one of my favorite Bday memories.

btw hope you have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :mickeyjum

With the button you will get warm birthday wishes from the CMs! :goodvibes I had some very cute plate decorations on the desserts we ordered at Steakhouse 55 and Carthay Circle as well.

I think this a little high of an estimate...my guess is that children stand a better chance, but overall I would say there is no more than a 50% chance of getting anything "free" except birthday wishes.

We celebrated my friends birthday dinner at Steakhouse 55, but that desert wasn't comp'd. DH and I went to Carthay Circle for my birthday lunch & our Server comp'd our $14 dessert! I'm all for wearing the birthday button all day long!

I'm celebrating a big, scary birthday at Disneyland next week! I plan to get the button. I booked our breakfast for that morning at Carnation Café. My DH had his there a few years ago and wore the button and a funny pair of birthday ears. He did get lots of birthday wishes from CMs and guests alike. We also did the character breakfast at Plaza Inn. It was really fun! One CM gave us a 15% discount at Village Haus, and a free Mickey Rice Krispy treat. I wouldn't expect anything for free, but the line was long that night. She thanked us for our patience, noticed the button, and tossed in some goodies!:)

Thank you everyone for the ideas. I certainly am not expecting anything free, just fun little bonuses if it's your birthday. The birthday wishes are Disney magic in itself. I have always thought of it this way, it seems to me if CM's can do some magic they will. :)

I just celebrated my birthday at DL a few weeks ago. I got the button and wore it all three days of my trip not expecting one single thing! I got a ton of birthday wishes as well as free birthday desserts at Rainforest Cafe, Wine Country Trattoria and Blue Bayou! It was certainly a lovely surprise to get the desserts but I never expected it!! I had a blast!

Happy Birthday to you!

We went for DF's birthday this year, and she got lots of warm birthday wishes from CMs, plus an offer of free dessert for every sit-down place we ate at. (I say an offer, because we politely declined a couple of times.)

Aside from wearing the button, I also mentioned it was her birthday when I made my reservations. It definitely add to the magic of the trip.

I would not expect anything special on your b day at DL. My wife had one on October and I had one in November and we both had on our b day buttons on our respective birthdays and we got nada. A few cast members did say happy birthday though and that was enough I guess. Maybe they are nicer to little kids. Who knows.

In my experience, I've always had offers of small complimentary desserts on my birthday. I've had one CM sing a Spanish birthday song to me and you should ask at City Hall for your birthday phone call. It's a lot of fun.

If you're into meeting the characters, I've had some extra magic from characters.

Happy Birthday! Hope you have a magical day celebrating! Like other people have said, I would recommend some of the more adult places at Disney and having a great dinner:
* Steakhouse 55
* Napa Rose
* Carthay Circle
* Catal
* Trader Sam's
* Blue Bayou - no alcohol there but cannot beat that atmosphere!

Maybe a dinner/dessert package during Fantasmic or WOC?

As others have said, maybe you'll get a dessert ;)

Last trip there (Early September) we went to Goofy's kitchen for my wife's b-day brunch. In addition to the buttons, she was served a delicious chocolate brownie while the staff sang the birthday song. Also Snow White (my wife's all-time absolute favorite princess) was at the next table over and when she got to our table she wished my wife a very special happy birthday. The wife was in seventh heaven. Couldn't be a better way to start out the day.

When we went to Disneyland for a combination birthday for the wife & our wedding anniversary we stayed at the Disneyland hotel. When we booked, they asked if we were celebrating anything, she mentioned her birthday and our anniversary. When we checked in, we had autographed pictures of Minnie and Mickey along with Donald & Daisy, as well as a birthday pin for her, and anniversary pins for us. They also comped our parking for the trip which in itself was amazing. Every sit down place we went to also gave us a free dessert for her birthday and our anniversary which was also amazing. Then of course, everyone wishing her a happy birthday and us a happy anniversary.

Oh, and I forgot to mention: At the end of Monsters Inc, Roz sang her own version of Happy Birthday to DF. That was one of her favorite moments!
