Is an ADR an Advanced Dining Reservation?

I have never been to WDW before but have noticed a few of you advise to make these reservations.

I know nothing about ADRs or how to make them so I could really use

a) recommendations for which ones to choose
and
b) an idiot guide to making them.

It will be my, my DH and our two DDs aged 10 and 8. Apart from the 1st November when we're at Discovery Cove we have nothing else booked but I do want to go to MNSSHP at some point.

Any advise would be very much appreciated. :thumbsup2

Hi Anita

With regard to which are the best ADRs, it's really a matter of choice/taste. Check out the menus on www.allearsnet.com and also on the dining area of this site. You can also read reviews of the various restaurants on the 'Restaurants' area of the DIS.

With two girls, you might want to consider a couple of character meals. Which ones depend on which characters they/you are into. There is also info on the various character meal on AllEars.

I only made my first ever ADRs yeaterday so I'm probably not the best person to give advice on how to make them. However, you can book ADRs 180 days before the date you require (although if you are staying on Disney property, you can make 10 days' worth of ADRs so 189-180 days in advance (not sure if that makes sense - maybe someone else can expain it better - for example, if you wanted to book for 22nd October, you can book tomorrow but, if you're staying on Disney property, you can book ADRs up to and including 31st October)

You need to phone 001 407 939 3463. When you get through to the recording, just follow the instructions and press the # key (Americans call it pound). Keep pressing the # key until you get to speak to someone. It was fairly easy to get through, although I did have a couple minutes hanging on. When you get through, just tell them you want to make a dining reservation, which restaurant and they will ask you what time you would like and then tell you if that time slot is available or offer you an alternative, if not.

Let us know how you get on.

ADR does stand for Advanced Dining Reservation :)
(used to be called a PS or Priority Seating)

As for what restaurant to chose, take a look at the menus from WDW here:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningmain.cfm

It really depends on your pocket and food taste as to which place to choose :)

To make an ADR you need to call the following number:

00 1 407-939-3463

You can call upto 180 days before the date you rish to dine, or if you are staying onsite you can call 180 days before you arrival date and book upto 10 days worth of ADRs in one go.

You will be asked to enter your phone number followed by a 'pound'. Just drop the zero from the std code and enter you home phone number then press # (# is called the pound sign in the US!).

When you get through to a Cast Member, just tell them the restaurant, time, date and how many are in your party and they will confirm your reservation and give you a ADR reference number - keep this safe!

ADRs are not true reservation as such - they only guarantee you the next free table suitable for your party size after your ADR time.
Best to arrive about 15-20 mins. before your time at the restaurant. You will then be booked in and the CM will shout you or give you a beeper to let you know when your table is ready :)
