Monday - Sept. 8th, 2008 - Our 1st day at the parks!

Epcot Day!!!

We were awakened by the "Big Cheese" himself at 6:30 AM. I've got our clothing laid out. My Baggallini is packed. Just got to pretty myself up.
Doug ate some cereal and I had a granola bar and we were off!
Here we are ready to go. Take note of my hair.

WDW2008001-1.jpg
WDW2008002-1.jpg

We got to the West bus stop at 7:15 AM. A bus had just taken off when we were walking up. Another family was waiting. They asked where we were going. They hadn't seen an Epcot bus yet.

A bus for MK swings in. The family that were waiting got on. I bid them a good day!

A bus for DHS is next. Nope we're going to Epcot.

A bus for MK again. HUM!!!! By this time another family strolled up. Mom, Dad, 3 little tikes. I was watching the dad. He just wouldn't sit still. Pacing back and forth, jack jawing, looking at his watch. I think he needed more caffeine. His kids were angels. Sat still, quiet.

I look at my watch just as another bus was pulling in - 7:35AM. This bus was for AK. Neither of us needed that one. Now I'm starting to wonder if Epcot is even open today!!?? All the buses that were pulling in were empty too!

Another MK bus. Alright, this is just not funny anymore! I walk up to the driver after Mr. Caffeine and crew climb on board. I ask if any buses are running for Epcot because we've been here since 7:15 AM. The driver says, 'The Epcot buses don't start until 7:45 AM. Should be one here shortly.' I say thanks and note that my watch says 7:50 AM.

It finally got there at 8:05 AM. Not a good way to start my vacation. I am not amused or impressed. It's a good thing we had Driver Dave!!! He was from upstate New Jersey or New York. He sounded kinda funny! He told some funny jokes and then did the routine of 'Hey this road doesn't look familiar, folks. I think it might take us just a little longer than I thought to get to Epcot.' It took everything I had not to talk back.

We got to Epcot at 8:25 AM. The standard Icon pics from the front.

WDW2008005-1.jpg

Doug and I proceeded to the rope of doom. There was a lot of people bunched up which is deceiving. It wasn't that crowded. Not much of a preshow here. Just some of the characters waving and high fiveing.
I felt bad for a couple in front of us. One of their youngsters just wasn't happy. And this kid had a set of lungs, I kid you not. He and his brother were in a double stroller. The other little guy was fine. But the screamer just wouldn't be appeased. We saw the screamer on his poppa's shoulders later. He had cheered up quite a bit I'm happy to report.

At rope drop everyone got herded like beef to the slaughter. Whichever direction you went you were guided by the CMs. I was using the UG touring plan. Soarin' Fast Passes were first.

WDW2008025-1.jpg
WDW2008024-1.jpg

So we entered the oh so good smelling Land pavilion. What was that smell? It was chickens being roasted up in Sunshine Season's. We wound around the first floor down the stairs to the bottom floor, slapped a few Mickey hands going by SS cafe, over to the FP machines. 1 guy in front of me, in, out, done. SWEET!! Gotta be back in 1 hour.:thumbsup2

Now to Test Track. The place was empty, friends. On the way a CM playing with her balls - don't re-read that, I mean the big plastic ones that they have for sale, stopped us and started chatting. Like I said, I've got one of those faces. She wanted to know where we were from, Happy Anniversary, Did we know about the digital signs that displayed the wait times, Where were we headed, on and on and on. I like nice people. I really do, but lady your holdin' me up from my first day of fun!!!!! I slowly started to walk towards Test Track nodding and agreeing and thanking the whole time when finally she said, 'Oh I don't want to keep......' I was gone with Doug in tow.

Our first ride at WDW. Can I get a YEEHAW!!!!!

Loved it!!!! It's even better at night! However, after the 70 mile an hour jaunt around the oval, my quaff was destroyed. I had to peel it off my sweaty forehead and moist face. YAY! As the day progresses, you will see the utter failure of Paul Mitchell's hair spray. Sorry Paul!

Our 2nd ride - Soarin'. Does it live up to all the hype???

Next: Day 3, Part 2: Humidity + Test Track = A Bad Hair Day

I just knew that if I proded you along, you'd finally get that update up! Excellent first hour on the first day! ....at this rate, we might get done with day one by Thanksgiving :rotfl: Seriously though, I totally feel your excitement! I can't wait to hear more :)

Just in case you didn't find out, that chicken that you smelled is delish :thumbsup2

Paul Mitchell is not the kind of guy that holds up in the heat. Love that you loved Test Track.

Great Update!!!!

The driver says, 'The Epcot buses don't start until 7:45 AM. Should be one here shortly.' I say thanks and note that my watch says 7:50 AM.
What???? Why not? People still go there for character breakfasts  We had terrible bus problems at POR this year :headache:

We wound around the first floor down the stairs to the bottom floor, slapped a few Mickey hands going by SS cafe, over to the FP machines. 1 guy in front of me, in, out, done. SWEET!! Gotta be back in 1 hour.:thumbsup2

:rotfl2: So true :rotfl2:

Glad you loved it and I so agree about it messing your hair up, at least your's is short mine looks like a bird nest after that ride :rotfl2:

Yayy the first day at the parks! Great update and sounds like a great start to your day (except the little bus mishap.) Can't wait to hear about the second half! :goodvibes

Doesn't Doug just look peppy at 7 in the morning? :cheer2: Totally reminded me of my DH every time I made him get up for rope drop.

I loved the energy the staff gives off at rope drop in the land. The waving, the drums, the high fives, they get me every time. This bubble of anticipation, excitement and hope gives me a gurgle-like hiccup of emotion. Or maybe it's heartburn from my poptart earlier and my sprint to soaring. Either way it brings tears to my eyes.

I give up on my hair while I'm there. I just hope the gleam in my eye and the smile on my face distracts from the halo of frizz surrounding my head.

You saw how short I had my hair. I had it cut the day before we left on our trip. Hair is a lost cause when it comes to the heat, humidity, and the rides at Disney. I don't mess with make up there either.

Poor Doug looks so thrilled in that early morning pic. :lmao:

Keep the TR coming. I can't wait to see your pics of your "do" make over. :rotfl:

Epcot, continued.

After our spin around Test Track it was only about 9:30AM. We hopped over to Mission Puke, I mean Mission Space. It was too darn early in the morning to temp fate on this ride. We wimped out. Took the easy side. I enjoyed watching Commander Sinise explain how vital our mission was and that we could wimp out even further and head straight to mission control. No thanks. I'm sorry I have no pics. No wait. No time.
Very interesting ride. A "must" in my book. We did go green later in our adventure. You'll have to keep reading if you want to find out if I mean that literally!!!
This is how 'not busy' the park was.

WDW2008035-1.jpg

A view from the land area.
WDW2008026-1.jpg

Every once in awhile I would luck out and get a great shot! I would stop and take a picture whenever it struck me. Doug got a little huffy with me on this a couple of times.:confused3

With the Fast Passes in hand we ran on over to Soarin. This is a 'feel good', proud of our land ride. I enjoyed the smells and views. However, this is a ride I would not wait in a huge line for. Great for the children in the family. Everyone should try it at least once. IMO, once is enough. It just didn't do that much for me. Sorry folks, just being honest. Now if they'd give you a gun and let you shoot at some stuff-----oh that's another ride, isn't it??!! Doug said he liked it and would do it again.

Inside the Land above the cafe area.

WDW2008017-1.jpg

A little bird reminded me that these used to move. By golly, I do remember that. It is still pretty though!

Note: We had all kinds of people, CMs and guests, congratulate us on our anniversary thanks to the buttons. Most the time we were able to get on the front of the rides too. Those buttons paid off more than once.

10:30 AM. 'Hey sugar lump, how's about we jump on the boats and take a cruise through the gardens?', I asked Doogles. He was game. Nice, slow, relaxing and informational - a good way to ease into lunch. Toward the end of our ride my cell phone rang!
Guess who?????!!!!!!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Glendamax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were meeting for lunch at Sunshine Seasons. She and her mom were getting ready to ride Soarin. I told her to give me a call when she was getting off. I just caught the back side of her entering Soarin as we exited the boat ride. I knew it'd be about 15 - 20 minutes before she got out.
Doug and I needed a potty break anyways. Good thing they have a place to sit and wait by the restrooms. I waited 10 minutes. I kid you not!

They were just switching all the signage for lunch at SS. Doug and I went on ahead and grabbed some grub while we waited for G-max.
Doogles got the rotisserie chicken with smashed potatoes and carrots. He had a fruit tart for desert.

WDW2008018-1.jpg

He said it was very good. The chicken was cooked perfect, moist and well seasoned.

I had the oriental offerings. Sweet and sour chicken and Spicy chicken with stir-fry vegies and noodles. My desert was the Butterfinger pie.

WDW2008021-1.jpg

WDW2008022-1.jpg

We also got 2 free cookies for our anniversary. They do this for all buttons at SS.

The chinese was good but nothin' exceptional. That pie on the other hand was FEE-NOM-I-NAL!!! Try it! You won't be dissapointed! The cookies were very good also.
Glendamax called as soon as we were back to a table. I told her to look toward the SS and I was standing right there. This extremely tall woman walked around the corner and I jumped and waved like a 4 year old. I gave her and her momma a big hug and told 'em to go get chow first.
This is our picture!

WDW2008023-1.jpg

We talked so much it was hard to eat. I loved every minute of it. Glendamax is a hoot and so is her mom. I thought G-max's hair was great. She said she thought the humidity was actually helping to puff hers a bit. My is still slowly deteriorating with each trip outside. I can't say enough about how nice it was to meet someone I had been chatting with for months! Thanks, G-max for meetin' up with us!!! Give your mom a big hug for me!!

Seas, Earth and the Beverly!

Sunshine Seasons Menus
They still had some breakfast menus up. I know The chicken dinner was around $8. My meal was $7.70.

Doug and I give this place: :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
Lots of good-lookin' food to satisfy every taste!

Again, our bill for this CS meal would have been around $28.

Seas, Earth and the Beverly!

After lunch, the crowds were pickin' up a bit. Still not bad though.

The Seas
Like I said, where there's an aquarium, there's Doug. I found Nemo!

WDW2008027-1.jpg
WDW2008028-1.jpg

If you liked Nemo and Crush, you'll like this. I actually remember the old set up. I liked it better. Doug could have stayed all day.

The classic Spaceship Earth. Again a walk-on!

WDW2008006-1.jpg

We got stuck at this point for a bit. I love this chick's duds. Always have.
WDW2008032-1.jpg

I do like the computer additions. I sent the e-card home. Go figure with the future under the sea. Doug picked it.
untitled-1.jpg

It's around 12:30 so we decided to give Club Cool and the 'Beverly' a try.
Beverly time!!!

WDW2008038-1.jpg

Doug is just plain confounded by it!
WDW2008037-1.jpg

2 veery sceery notes on this oh-so-gorgeous pic of me.
1. The hair is a total loss!
2. I look a lot like my Grandmother. OMG! The shear horror of it has kept me up for several nights.

You are not going to believe me, but I didn't think the Bev was all that bad. Doug didn't like it at all.
Doug liked Kinley and Smart. He didn't like Bev, Krest or Fanta.

I thought Smart was the best and Mezzo from Germany the worst. Of course if you spiked 'em with some SoCo or JD - they'd all be great!

This was a nice break for us. All kinds of Coca Cola stuff too.

It's 1:00 PM and our ADR for Coral Reef is at 5:10 PM. So we headed for the World Showcase.
This is always a nice way to spend a day. Taking your time enjoying the street shows and a few beverages with some spirits.
Mexico

WDW2008039-1.jpg
WDW2008041-1.jpg

No detail is spared in the renditions of the buildings. Doug was feeling like good ol' Indy Jones. Exploring new lands. It was getting extremely hot by this time of the day. We spent every minute inside a shop when we could.
Inside the Mexico Pavilion.

WDW2008046-1.jpg

Hmmmm???? Is he thinking about getting me something for our anniversary?

No such luck!

Norway
This is the head of the Viking ship that greets you at Norway!

Looky what I found.....
WDW2008050-1.jpg
WDW2008048-1.jpg

I know it hasn't been that long since we ate, but I wanted to try some School Bread.

Doug can't stand coconut so he got a sweet pretzel, plain.
WDW2008051-1.jpg

Friends, I was told that School Bread was 'to die for'. Not the way I would have described it. Of course it is afternoon and it might have been better in the AM. It was huge, I'll grant you that. It's just that it was mostly, well, bread. OK maybe that is stupid to say but it wasn't that fresh - kinda dry. I'd take a Krispy Kreme over it any day. Any Krispy Kreme! I not saying don't try it. It is big enough to split with somebody, so try away!!! It wasn't awful. Just not what I expected.

Doug's pretzel was excellent! They had one with almonds that looked even better.
There is a covered seating area in the back that has ceiling fans and a breeze. It was very nice. I paid out of pocket for this. The School Bread was $3.29, Pretzel - $2.49, 2 waters - $4. Total with tax - $10.16.

When we were done, we finished our tour of Norway.

The Grand Marnier March

As much time as I've spent in Norway, I have never ever ever noticed the little trolls! How adorable!:goodvibes

How great you met Glenda :goodvibes

The food at SS looked really good and huge too!

I've heard mixed views of School Bread, as I don't like coconut it's not on my list anyway :rotfl:

Your food pics made me hungry!! My stomach is actually growling now and I just had breakfast!!!

I really like how you call your DH Doogles instead of Doug sometimes  that gave me a good laugh! And your hair really does not look half as bad as you make it sound either!:)

I am such a BAD Focker:sad2: . How did I miss 3 updates:confused: Forgive me:flower3:

You definitely haven't been with the Focker curse yet. Choice of rooms:scared1:

Great day at EPCOT! And you met 2 Disers:woohoo:

The menu at SS is making me hungry!

I've never noticed the trolls or heard about school bread. Two things for me to check out on my next trip. Thanks.

I don't remember them either. They're stuck in nooks and crannies!

 You got to meet Glenda!

I agree with you about Soarin and the School Bread, they are both "okay".

It was a good time. To each his own on the food. It's really hard to beat Krispy Kreme on fattening, high carb, no healthy value, yummy goodness.

How great you met Glenda :goodvibes

SS had excellent portions.

They still makes me hungry too!!

He doesn't like it. I'm a doing another TR on another site and I accidently get confused. I usually only call him Doogles when he is misbehaving!:rotfl:

I am such a BAD Focker:sad2: . How did I miss 3 updates:confused: Forgive me:flower3:

Eh, no problem. I go in spurts. You'll never miss too much!

The menu at SS is making me hungry!

I've never noticed the trolls or heard about school bread. Two things for me to check out on my next trip. Thanks.

Def. check it out. SS was very good. If you go away hungry it's your own fault!

I have to apologize to all of you that have TRs. I am not keeping up too well right now. I love reading everybody elses. I'm just short on time. I'll get around to them soon.

Thank you, Thank you for taking the time to read mine!!!!
