ADRs for Dessert

ADRs for just eating dessert....is this:

A) Against the rules
B) Allowed but generally frowned upon
C) Allowed but seems to bother some CMs but not all
D) Shouldn't be a problem at all

I'd like an answer to that myself. I posted the same question and rec'd some responses that said yes it was allowed. I booked a late ADR at the Rose and Crown with the intent on having dessert (I have GOT to try the sticky toffee pudding!) and maybe an app. Now I read on another thread that this isn't allowed at the Rose and Crown! So, if it isn't allowed, can you just dessert "to go'? What if you make an ADR with the intent on having a meal and then decide you aren't that hungry? Food shouldn't be this hard!

I asked that original Rose & Crown question and was told no by a server I believe...
BUT, I have also went to an ADR and we decieded we only wanted dessert since we had too many snacks or something, and it wasn't an issue. But we always had off hour ADR's so we weren't holding up a table. (Getting icecream at SciFi comes to mind, and we had a 3ish ADR, the place was already pretty done with the lunch rush)

At most TS restaurants if you want to be assured of a seat near a certain time, make an ADR. If you choose to simply order dessert that's your choice.

As for fair to the server, well don't expect attentive service nor penalize the server because of that fact. Your lower ticket value is likely to yield a lower tip that say a similar sized group having dinner, including dessert would have. That is a generalization, you may tip heavy and they may tip light, but the server is going to play the averages.

As to fair to someone who wanted that seat for a full meal, again that is your call. You have a right to that seat, but if you would be disappointed to not get a shot at it because someone is choosing to have just dessert there, then make your decision with that in mind.

Bottom line: It is allowed, I'll leave it to you to add any of the disclaimers you've offered. It really isn't for another DISSER to determine your decision.

My guess is it's allowed, but it would be an extremely rare server who was fine with it. The server from R&C who said it wasn't allowed was probably trying to discourage anyone from doing it. FWIW, I personally wouldn't feel right doing it knowing that the tables would most like fill with those ordering an entree & maybe appys & dessert too. Only you can decide how you feel about it.

You have just as much right to a table as any other family!!! Whether you choose to have a full meal or just drinks and dessert!! I say go for it!!!! I certainly would!!

Thanks for the responses. We have an ADR, we just keep looking at the menu and thinking we might not like the food, but still want to try the restaurant. That's why I was curious. My thinking on it is, yes we are technically taking an ADR spot, but we're going to leave that table much faster than if we ate a full meal, so in a way we're letting more people get in quicker. I understand that someone who wants a spot might not get an ADR because of us, but that's true of any reservation.

I just wasn't sure if it really wasn't allowed or frowned upon, or if it was just one of those things that some people will get all worked up over, and others won't care. If it was me, I wouldn't consider someone having a reservation for dessert less important than a reservation for dinner, because it's still a reservation. They still took the time to plan ahead and booked the things they wanted for their vacation. But not everyone is as open minded and unperterbed by things as I am. So I thought I would ask for the general opinion. Thanks!

whenever DH and i have just ordered appys and dessert (sci-fi comes to mind....) i've tipped more, to cover the server's time - just me....

Be careful if you have earlier dining ressies. I had my dinner ressie cancelled because they thought I doubled booked a dinner ressie They latter one was for a late dessert !!!!

It should be fine. And any server (anywhere) who discourages it, or treats you with less attention, is acting unproffesionally. I personally have never done it, but I don't understand why people think it's ok to receive lesser service because of it. The CM jobs is to wait on your table. This job is the same whether you're tipping on a large tab or a small tab, whether you are a good tipper or a bad tipper. If they don't do their job to the best of their ability, their greedy paws should find a different job.

In my industry I do some jobs for a large amount, some jobs for a small amount, if I accept the job, it gets my attention. Always.

Drives me crazy that people think this is ok.

DS and I did this at Sci Fi during Free Dining, of all times. We ordered the spinach & artichoke dip and drinks. The server really couldn't have been nicer. He never once treated us any differently than he treated the "drivers" in our "car." We did tip accordingly.

Also, while yes, someone may not get an ADR, you may make a walk-in's day.

Sadly, now this doesn't matter. I was so looking forward to seeing Narcoosee's, but now DH has decided he doesn't want to have to go to the resort and fix his hair (no hats). So now I have to cancel the thing I was looking forward to the most.

Were you thinking of Narcoossee's just for dessert? If so that would be waste, go for dinner or don't go. The food and service there are so so good. I'd cancel most any other Disney meal to eat there. Tell DH it is worth the shirt change and hair comb!

Yes, that's where we were going. Neither of us really like seafood, and the menu just doesn't appeal to us, but I wanted to see the restaurant anyway. That's why we were thinking of doing the dessert only option.
