ADR's, did I wait too long ?

I'm planning a family trip to WDW in May 2015. I have not booked our reservations yet. But plan to this next week.
My main question (at this point) will it be too hard to get ADR'S, since I'm going in about 4 months ?

It depends on which restaurants you want and your party size and if you are possibly willing to stalk reservations until you get what you want.

I'd say that if you aren't looking for some key restaurants like CRT, BOG, CP before park open, Chef Mickey's, Star Wars meals, and maybe a few others, that there will be plenty to choose from. There may not be the best times available or maybe not your preferred restaurants, but you shouldn't be shut out of all reservations.

You're not completely out of luck though... I booked our Feb. 2015 trip at 120 days out and still managed to get BOG for a late dinner and CP breakfast at 8:15 am by checking the ADR website every couple of days when I was in front of the computer and remembered to look. There are cancellations all the time and if you're persistent you'll find some gems.

You can book ADRs prior to booking your hotel package. Just in case you were waiting for that.

We are going in January and only started booking ADRs at about 100 days out. We have had no problem getting everything we needed. I've got 8:00AM CP reservations, a 5:50 BOG and a 5:05 Chef Mickeys. It took some time, but for the most part I was able to get good times right away and just got better ones over time.

Also, my advice would be to join a May Facebook group. The January groups are great and I've been able to snag great ADRs when people on there have dropped them!

This site will tell you all restaurants that have openings during the length of your trip. When you click on one you'd like it links you back to the WDW site to make the reservation.

Anyone can book dining reservations at 180 days out. The only time a hotel reservation is needed is if you want to book 180 + 10, which requires proof that you are staying onsite for up to the 10 days. The dining is not in any way tied to the reservation (so if you cancel the reservation, the dining would still be there and would need to be cancelled separately).

I was able to get everything we wanted by checking occasionally in the beginning and then several times a day on the last 2 weekends before we went.

I also watched the monthly cancellation thread. That is how I got the dessert party.
