ADR's at Kona Necessary?

Hi! We'll be staying at the Poly in Dec. Is it always necessary to make ADR's at Kona? If we are hungry after the parks and they are open, will they be packed or can we catch a quick meal?

i would make one. we went for breakfast in Jan and waited for an hr+ for a seat. plus since Ohana is always crowded and they can turn walk ins away, the potential for crowding is there if the turned way ones go to Kona instead sorry somehow i made my print bigger

Well, you are taking a chance, but you may be okay. I have gone there after park closing in March with no ADR and had a bit of a wait, but not bad. Then a few weeks ago, we decided to give it a shot and headed over from the MK at about 5:00 or so and got right in. When we left, people were waiting.

We have never seen Kona full enough that there would be a problem. It seems that anyone who doesn't have ADR's at 'Ohana is sent over to Kona for almost immediate seating.

We were there the first week of Feb. and watched as folks stomped off after being told of a 30 minute or more wait. With the dining plan, Kona's is a great place to eat dinner. We have 3 ressies for them for our April trip for dinner. We always make an ADR, even if it's from the resort that morning. I agree, there are actually folks who walk up to Ohana's thinking they can get in, then head straight to Kona's.

We dined at Kona in September and had an ADR. We went in the middle of the afternoon and found it not crowded at all though. However, I do not hesitate to make ADR's. With three kids under 7, waiting too long to eat is never a good thing!

P.S. Don't forget to leave room for desserts at Kona! The Lava Cake is the best!!!
