ADR's and gluten free meals

I sent an email to Special Diets yesterday, just waiting to hear back.

I expect you'll hear back soon. Brenda is out of the office until the 17th, so they're a little shorter on staff than usual and requests might take a little longer. I hope you really enjoy your trip and I know you'll find lots of good things to eat!

They're just cheaper at Electric Umbrella. You can get the kid's gluten free mac and cheese as a kid's meal ($5 w/ 2 sides and a drink) at Electric Umbrella too. At Liberty Inn it's $6.50 (or more now, probably) with no drink or sides. At Main Street Bakery - it's usually (but not always) <$3.

The same thing happens with the gluten free pizza - how much you pay depends on where you buy it and who you get it from. Your Hotel food court is usually a very economical place to get gluten free pizza, for example. On the other hand, a burger on a gluten free bun costs the same as a regular burger pretty much everywhere.

Thanks! I've only eaten CS at WDW twice since going gluten free - both at Epcot - once at the Liberty (burger, fries, & mac & cheese), once at EU (the chicken tenders). Is the GF mac & cheese at EU the Amy's frozen also?

Yes, it is. That's the only GF mac and cheese you'll find at counter service in WDW, and the one you'll usually find at TS locations.

There is no extra charge for GF food at Disney; all the prices are the same.

This is kind of an old thread, but I'd generally been agreeing with this before, and now I'm not. I'm at WDW now, and the prices for GF food are reliably higher when there's a substitute. I'm being told 30+ minute waits (and we're eating off peak) for gluten-free counter service and being upcharged. A gluten free kid's meal is $7-8 and hasn't come with sides/drink unless we specifically asked for them (and then they were included at no extra charge).

Also, if you have older (more than a couple of weeks) gluten free food listings, the El Pirata y el Perico menu has changed completely, and there's now nothing there that I would consider reliably gluten free. They had me sold on beef nachos as the only gluten free option, and then disclosed that the chips are fried in the same fryer as the wheat-tortilla shell for the taco salad. The menu changed in the last week or week and a half, and they no longer offer tacos. It's burritos, taco salad and nachos.

Good to know about the El Pirata y el Perico, usually Mexican food is safe for DS and DH. We will be at Disney next week and will be doing 14 nights of DxDDP dining. I sent the list of reservations to Special Diets last week and the sent me an e-mail back the next day stating that they will contact the chefs. We have not made as many TS reservations on week 2 yet so we might try some CS places. I will post a review after we get back.

Reading through these threads made me want to mention: if you are worried about accidental breadcrumbs falling in your salad, cutting on the same bread board or cross-contamination, Glutenease is a good product to take with you when you eat out. It will not allow you to eat a loaf of bread or anything, but it will really help you with the digestion.

This is a great tip for those who do not have celiac or other immune reaction to gluten so thank you for sharing. My big concern is that people will see a product like this as a license to be less careful. For people who do not have an immune reaction to gluten then this can be very beneficial but it will not do anything to help those of us who do have immune reactions and if people don't understand this difference then it can be quite dangerous.
