ADR question

This is probably a weird question so I hope I can word it right. Our ADRs are all made for our trip in three weeks. Another family is joining us for some of our meals and we have included them on the ADRs. Now for the problem...They have a three year old son who initially was not coming on this trip but now they have decided to bring him. How can we add him to the ADRs? I do not want to try to rebook everything at this late date because I know we will end up with nothing. The mother says she will hold him on her lap if necessary. Will Disney Dining just modify our reservations to include him or should we not rock the boat and just see what happens at the restaurants? Will they make a big deal out of an extra three year old? We are already 7 adults and 2 children but do not mind being split up as they usually do that to us anyway. Sorry this is so long. Thanks for any and all help.

I'd call and see if another person can be added to your existing reservations. Those that cannot add the toddler, just hope for the best when you arrive. It will most likely NOT be an issue.

Thank you Shannon. I'll call this morning. This particular trip has been one headache after another. I'm beginning to look forward to it being over. :)

Unfortunately it will most likely be a difficult issue.

They won't just "allow" her to hold him. There are capacity laws in which have to be enforced.

Most places are going to give issue to this and either the extra party will be turned away (or in this case...some adult) or the whole party will have to cancel.

Personally I would explain the situation to the other family, let them know you will try and rebook the reservations but know if you cannot then someone will have to sit with the child while the others have dinner and eat elsewhere.
It is harsh, but reality. No way would I let my family miss out on a meal we have planned for because someone joining us "decided" to bring along another person.

I hope you can work it out and it doesn't put a damper on your vacation!!!

You shouldn't have a problem since you had 9 and are going to 10 as you were probably going to end up with a combo of tables anyway. When you go from odd to even it's not usually a problem it's just if you go up to needing the next size table that can be problematic. Just be sure to check in a bit early for all your ADRs and be super nice :)

Well I guess we'd have to be super nice or sit someone out because when I called to see if they would add one small three year old boy they firmly refused. They checked and said nothing is available at all for a party of 10 even though we would have to split up. DH says he doesn't want any of the kids to miss out so he will just stay back at the room and join us when the park opens.

What cm's say on the phone and what you encounter in person are totally different. They are very used to dealing with minor changes in number on site and it's extremely rare for someone to be turned away--especially involving a small child. Really the only place you hear about being inflexible are places like Le Cellier that is very small and usually overbooked. Really you shouldn't worry it will be fine :). Our last trip we had a different number than our ADR at almost every meal as my mom left early, dh came unexpectedly, and we toured with some friends. Never even got a blink of an eye at any change. We were always early and always very polite. The adrs don't reserve you a set table it's more like call ahead seating.

This is so great to hear. Thank you! The meal in question is for Donald's Safari Breakfast Buffet at the Tusker House restaurant. Our ADR is for 8:00AM. If by chance they do give us a problem DH and I will probably just sit outside and wait while the kids and grandkids enjoy the characters. :)
