I know I have a long time before I even get to book our ADR's but there is another family going to be traveling with us. They aren't into planning meals as far in advance as we are. So, if I book and ADR for 7 and that morning our friends decide they don't want to eat at the place I have made an ADR for, how hard would it be to change the ADR to a table of 4? I would hate to just show up at the restaurant, check in and say, "oh by the way there will only be 4 of us instead of 7"

This happened to us on our trip with friends a couple years ago. Don't know if things have changed but we never had a problem. They just weren't planners like us and even though we made ADR's to be together for each meal a couple times they opted out. We just explained when we showed up for our meal and it wasn't a problem. Good Luck! Happy Planning!

Thanks for the information. I was thinking it would be easier to adjust a ressie down than to add people at the last minute.

Keep in mind that CRT (and probably other restaurants that require a credit card guarantee) will charge you for the number of people on the reservation, even if some don't show.

I don't want to give up the reservation, just change the number of people dining on the reservation from 7 to 4.

You won't be giving up the ressie, but say it involves breaking up tables that were going to be pushed together for you, then the restaurant can add another ressie for a table of 4. Of course, if you just change it when you walk up, then they have a chance for another walk up family to 'get lucky' with a spot.

The big problem would be if you are at a large round table that seats 6-8 people, and you've only got 4. You are then taking up a big table if they don't have a 4-top available to seat you at instead, and that doesn't allow them to open those spots up to other guests. I'd call as soon as you know (even if it's on the way to the rest.) so they can maybe accommodate an additional party with the change to your ressie.

I have already told friends that if we book CRT or any other place that requires a credit card to hold the spot that they could not back out. They agreed with us on that.
