I figured out that ADR = advanced dining reservations and I've read that many people using the Disney dining plan make an ADR. Do those paying cash for their meals need to make an ADR also? Is there a special number to make these advance reservations?

Yep, ANYONE who wants to eat at a particular restaurant usually needs to make an ADR. It works the same way as any other restaurants. Make the ressie or you might not get in :)

Yes those paying cash should make ADRs for table service eateries. You can call 407-w-disney and follow the prompts.

Yes, EVERYONE wanting to dine at a Disney table service restaurant needs to make reservations! It has absolutely NOTHING to do with how you're paying for your meal, and everything to do with the popularity of dining onsite.

It is the same number to make reservations whether you pay by cash or are on the dining plan. Yes, I would highly recommend making reservations or you might not get into many of the restaurants you want to eat at.

ADRs are not just for those on the DDP, so the method of payment has no impact on whether you need one or not.

Definitely! Without ADRs you are left to hope for the best if you want a table service meal. Many times this means either 1) not getting to eat where you want 2) Having to wait FOREVER to get a table or 3) eating counter service after becoming too frustrated to try anymore.

ADRs are free (in most cases) and anyone can make them.

Is there a thread or site that lists all the restaurants available? I never realised all the planning thst goes into making a vacation.

PlutoAddict517 if you go to Allearsnet.com you will see a link for dining... click on it and it will bring up a page that has all the parks and hotels on the left side... you can click on which ever you want it it will bring up all the menus for all the restaraunts in the parks and hotels.

I think the reason the focus of ADR's seems to be on people with the dining plan is that once you've invested in prepaying for your meals, you want to make sure you actually get to eat them. So it's really imperative for people who have the dining plan to get their ADR's in as soon as possible. It's also important if you want to do any character dining or dinner shows, as some of those even require a credit card guarantee.

I don't buy the dining plan, and I typically travel during the slower seasons. So I don't make ADR's for every day. I make ADR's for restaurants that I specifically don't want to miss, but I'm content with CS restaurants if I can't get a walk in at a TS restaurant. I was at WDW for 2 1/2 weeks last month during free dining and I didn't make any ADR's (on a trip that long, I have no idea what I'll be doing from day to day) and I was still able to get a few walk-in and last minute ADR lunches at TS restaurants (since most free diners prefer to use their credits for dinner, lunch is often easier to do last minute).

So it depends on the time of year you are traveling, whether you are OK with going CS if a last minute TS doesn't pan out, and whether there are any restaurants that are an absolute must do on your trip. Only you can answer those questions and know whether you need to make those ADR's or not.

ADRs are not just for those on the DDP, so the method of payment has no impact on whether you need one or not.

Funny side note: We just got back from WDW Sunday night (Oct 7th). The night we ate at Le Cellier there was a lady arguing that they had the DDP which gave them reservations anywhere they wanted, with front of the line access, so she didn't need to make prior reservations. She was really giving the CM a hard time, demanded to be seated immediately, and demanding to talk with a manager. You should have seen her face when the CM explained that the rest of us had made ADRs 180 days out. She just continued to argue that she knew how the DDP worked and she knew she didn't need to make any reservations beforehand. Apparently she bought the DDP, but had no one explain it to her and just assumed it gave her immediate access to any dining reservation she wanted.

Or you can check out the menus right here on The DIS, www.wdwinfo.com and click on "dining" at the top menu. The menus on The DIS seem to be more up to date too.

Also, the menus on The DIS have links to discussions on these forums.

I can only imagine IF she finally realizes she was wrong how embarrassing that would be...then again, perhaps she is one of those people who is never wrong... Wonder who suggested the DDP to her and how she missed the ADR part. Then again, I can only imagine what it must have been like to be traveling with her! I hope it was a short trip...
