ADR Issues!!! HELP

Ok, this may be a strange question but here it goes anyway. We are going to The World this December with the our girls, the inlaws, and my parents. Our problem is, we are not really talking to my parents! I don't expect us to be talking to them when its time to make the ADRs either (this is going to make for a GREAT vacation, isn't it?!?), so what I'm planning on doing is, making the ADRs for everyone, and if they decide not to go do Disney with us, then just show up at all the ADRs 2 short.
My question is, though I know its not 100% moral, do you think Disney will have a huge problem with this? Will they tell us that since we don't have all the people in the party that are reservations are negated, or will they just let us in?

It will be no problem showing up two short - just mention at the podium you have two no shows and they will seat you at the next available table for your new party size.

Normally, I would say that you should try to make up with your parents regardless of the trip, but without knowing the situation, I hope you work it out. It will be hard to add two people to your ADRs while you are at WDW (unless you are willing to take separate tables, or whatever is available). Although, maybe it is better if you have separate tables. If you think you will have them with you for your WDW meals, I don't think you have any choice but to add them. Maybe you could email them?

Hi SharpMomOfTwo! I hope everything works out with you and your parents. But, I also asked this question when I made our ADRs for September. We are going with a party of 7. I asked the CM if (and I don't anticipate this happening, but you never know) one of us gets ill or can't make dinner, and we show up one person short, will our entire ADR be cancelled, or will we still be seated? She said it depends on the restaurant. She said usually they will go ahead and seat you, but sometimes they will not be able. She did not go into details about why they would not be able. But, overall, it sounded like they would do their best. So, you should be ok.

Just be careful with any ADRs that you may have put a credit card guarantee on like CRT, California Grill, etc. You would need to cancel these ADRs 24 hours in advance to avoid paying a penalty.

When we were there last, my mil started feeling sick on the plane ride there....by the time we got on the ME, it was BAD (let's just say she was making good use of all the ziplock baggies I had jammed in my backpack ). She was pretty sick for most of the vacation, which was really, really unfortunate, since her and FIL had paid for the whole thing. Anyway, we had ADR's for 7, but for most of them, it was just the 5 of us. She did make it to CRT thankfully, but at all the other ones, it was never a problem, we just said she was ill, and FIL was with her in the room.

Make your reservations for the largest party size you think will be there. As soon as you know the correct party size and it's different, call and get the size changed.

If I'm reading your post correctly, you will hopefully have a party of 8. Depending on the restaurant, that could be two tables of four, one table for six and one table for two, or even a table for eight. By calling with the correct number of people, the restaurant can adjust their table assignments and maybe have another seating available for another party.

It's always easier to go down in your party size than to increase the party size.

While it will be tough with no speaking to parents know the feeling but it was the MIL that wasn't speaking. But we all never went on vacations together except twice & it was a living nightmare. But if your parents are not talking to you & vice verus (whatever then hand them the dining number & tell them to make their own dining plans. If you book for a table of sat 8 & two doesn't show up just tell them at the podium that two didn't make it last minute. This what I was told by Disney Dining two days ago. She said better to have the table that not to have a table. I have no problem with this but others might but you do what you have to do It is not like you are making double ADR at same time. When I made my ADRS for my trip in Sept I wasn't sure if we were going to be a party of 4 or 6. Iexplained to my CM 2 guests were still unsure of going. She said I should make the reservations for 6 (it's easier to subtrct than add) and if the number of people changed I can call and revise the reservations.

And that's what I did. My situation was different in that my parents weren't sure if they wanted to make the trip (mom doesn't like to fly). I told them I made the reservations for 6 and when they decided not to go I called and was able to change all my reservations to 4 without a problem.

So make them for 6. Then you might want to e-mail or write your parents that you made the reservations in hopes that they will join you and if they decide not to go to please let you know so you can change them.

If you have to change your reservations for less people. Call and ask for the new reservations first with less people. If it's available make the new reservation then tell them to cancel the old one. Don't cancel the original reservation until you know you can make a new one. In the worst case scenerio there may be a couple of ADRS where you show up with 2 less.
