Ok, I swear I'm done now!!
Hi ADR changers. I just wanted to post here in case anyone is contemplating eating lunch at 50s Primetime and was unaware that sandwiches and burgers were off the menu and the Lunch/Dinner menu is one and the same now. We've done 50s PT so often and regularly, that I'd become complacent and not looked at menus from our fave ADRs before booking a trip. My fault totally and I certainly won't make that mistake again.
There are many restaurants that do a nice current menu very well and we thoroughly enjoy those TS restaurants. But 50 PT is supposed to offer throwback food and theme, and the lunch menu surely doesn't gel anymore IMO. I know my grandma or great aunt never cooked wahoo (this past Sunday's fish of the day)... just sayin'. Hmmm... now change out the wahoo for fish sticks and you've got gold! And the recent changes really leave no place for milkshakes and malts on the menu now because there is nothing left to pair a shake with... definitely not Grilled Wahoo and a Chocolate Shake.
Burgers and shakes are an American classic and just go together. So sad.
As for the new pricing, $45.00 for lunch for 2 ppl with no alcohol just doesn't cut it with me. And I can't fathom eating heavy meatloaf, fried chicken, spaghetti & meatballs or similar mid-day once the FL summertime heat is in full force. Blech. Not to mention that 2 of 3 recent visits were met with indifferent and definitely not happy servers who didn't care to be in character as a cousin. It is no wonder many lunch ADRs are still available this week.
I am disillusioned. It was always our #1 favorite Disney TS theme restaurant.I'm sorry for my rant. But I hope this helps someone.

When my DD and I were there in Oct/Nov we had the worst service of any place in WDW. We waited and waited, they took parties that came in after us (the same size parties), we went up and asked and were told we'd be the next party of two but they still took 2 other parties of 2 before us. When we saw the manager we complained again but all she could saw was oh well. Once we were sitted the server didn't "play" with us at all .... maybe she had been warned that we were complainers ... I don't know. She did bring us our food promptly but that was about it. I was using my Tables card for a discount, I left on the 18% tip that was automaticly added but that was it. Usually we always add a little more. Since it wasn't the servers fault we didn't get sitted in a timely manner I didn't want to adjust the tip. Needless to say we didn't go back on our Jan trip.
And amandaw, yes it is sad. And surpising. We are now deciding where to change our August ressie to... hmmm. Sci-Fi will be even more busy now, and they are already packed. Maybe a Cobb salad at HBD. There's always Min & Bill's.
But we didn't let it dampen our spirits while at the park and it was a fun day... well except for the fact that DH trounced me again on Toy Story.![]()
We have been back a week from our trip and I'm ready to go back! LOL
We made 2 more ADR changes during our trip. We added a dinner at Tokyo Dining and we canceled our H&V character breakfast. I was torn about the cancellation because DD loves those characters, but DH & I were a little done with character breakfasts (pricing and food) and we needed the time actually in DHS park since it was our last day.
Here's a quick rundown (itty bitty reviews) of our ADRs this trip (not on a dining plan):
Rose & Crown - This is a must do every trip, but is becoming less so since there isn't much I like on the menu anymore. Excellent service, but disappointing food for me. DH thought his food was good, DD liked hers okay, and my Sunday Roast was borderline inedible. It was the first night of our vacation and I'm never one to send things back anyway. They have changed the kids sundae - it is now premade and has fruit cocktail in the middle. That was also disappointing. If we keep it on our must-do list, I will get an app and soup instead of an entree. Still love the drink menu.
Kona Cafe - a new one for us. The bread was amazing, all food very good, and our server was excellent. I really enjoyed my first Lapu Lapu in a pineapple.
Chef Mickey's - another new one. Server was fine, characters were good but a smidge fast for my liking, food was okay/good. It wasn't over-crowded and we didn't have to wait long for our table. I think we would do this again, because of meeting 5 characters and the large selection/variety of food.
Tokyo Dining - returning, last visit in 2008. Service impeccable, food excellent. It was one of DD's favorite meals: edamame app, "crunchy chicken," rice you can eat with your hands and green beans in a monorail shape tray! It was also one of DH's faves: sushi! I know it's not exciting, but I love their veggie tempura. The only thing I didn't love was the dipping sauce for it, but I added a little soy and it was pretty good.
Le Cellier - lunch. DH and I went once in 2006 and thought "meh." This visit exceeded expectations. I did prix fixe but wasn't in the mood for steak. My soup was good, gnocchi entree very good, maple creme brulee excellent. DD got the kid's steak which was fabulous - nice cut of meat, tender and perfectly cooked. Steak is her favorite food. She loved the little chocolate moose dessert as well. I can't remember what DH got but he enjoyed his meal. Our server was really great.
Tusker House character breakfast - I felt really positive when we got there, loved the juice, and liked some of the different/unique items on the buffet. But I left feeling pretty disenchanted with the experience. Our time was before park opening and we still waited 10 minutes to check in and 10+ minutes for the Donald photo. I really dislike the photo package thing, but I guess I knew that going in. I've already prepaid for the photopass CD, why can't I put the photo on my pass instead of pay $30 for a Donald photo?? Okay, mini rant over. But since Donald is outside and we had to wait in line for him, you really only meet 3 characters during the breakfast. The characters inside were really quick, snapped one or two pics and they were off. The little walk to music was so short and crowded that it didn't add to the experience. I left feeling that this particular character meal just wasn't a good value for us. We liked Chef Mickey's a smidge better for overall experience, but would consider this in the future, depending on our resort and touring plan.
Akershus Princess Dinner - First time. Pleasantly surprised and would definitely do again. Probably even on our next trip. DD loves the princesses (was more into the other characters when she was younger) and current fave is Belle. The Belle was wonderful and the other princesses spent a nice amount of time at each table. I decided to try the salmon, which I'm really picky about, but it was excellent. Despite the high price tag, we felt this was a good value. We prefer a sit-down dinner to a breakfast, the character interaction was great, food was great, service was great, and the included photos came out wonderfully.
We learned that for us, for a 6-night trip, 2 character breakfasts are too many. We'll pick one that is convenient for our next trip and keep a princess dinner. If we can do an 8+ night trip, I think we will add a 2nd breakfast, especially if DD is still so into the Disney Junior characters. We continue to run into the problem where all our favorite lunch/dinner spots are in Epcot, especially now that Le Cellier and Akershus have made the list.
You're welcome!Welcome Back! And a big thank you for this dining review!
I was so disappointed to read that your Sunday Roast wasn't good at Rose & Crown. I love that entree. Sorry it wasn't any good!
...EDITED...
Thanks again for reporting back to us!![]()
You're welcome!
You know, I thought I had ordered the Sunday Roast on our last trip - at least I'm certain I've had the Yorkshire pudding before. Maybe it was a bad day? Because the Yorkshire pudding I got was also pretty stale - as in, needed a steak knife to cut it.
I realize I forgot one of our meals!
Mama Melrose Fantasmic package - "Meh" overall. DD has never seen Fantasmic, so we thought this was the trip to do it. The biggest issue was that DH's appetizer was burned (so badly that they didn't even bring it out), and it took 15 minutes for them to get him a new one. That delayed our entrees. We didn't get a choice of dessert - our server just brought a plate with two on it. Is that normal? I was getting stressed at the amount of time dinner was taking, because I was hoping to get in at least one attraction/show before Fantasmic seating. By the time we finally left, dinner had taken 2 hours. I've certainly enjoyed meals that long at places like California Grill, but it messed up my plans this particular evening. Also, I didn't realize that you can't use Tables in Wonderland discount on Fantasmic packages - so I'm not sure we would book one in the future (unless we were going at a peak time and Fantasmic was deemed must do by DD).
So that's a long winded review that doesn't have much useful information!
Our server seemed very good, but was the no choice in desserts him or part of the package?Food was all good but not very memorable. They tried to make the mistake on DH's dinner right by bringing him a free salad - but since he was ordering beers, a comp'ed drink would have been more appreciated. We couldn't just cancel his burned app or get it comp'ed because it was part of the package price (we actually asked).
I think we just had bad luck both with the restaurant and with the Fantasmic package. I might go back in the future but not the very next trip.

Sorry to hear about your MM experience. We are doing the F pkg there as well. My daughter is 17 and it's the only option for the package that we would consider ( we are not on deluxe ). I really hope our meal doesn take 2 hours!!! I'm just not a two hour meal person...
On another note>>>>> I havent changed my ADR's for a couple of days now BUT...... Im not sure what scenario I am keeping. I forgot the whole reason I was originally switching things around was because of transportation back after Boma dinner to POP----- UGH!!! I really dont want to have to pay for a cab ( heard about $15-$20 bucks ) BUT.......
On Option 1 ----- HS studios closes at 7 so, we cant' take bus from AKL to HS and then bus to POP
We could take bus to DTD or MK and then switch back to POP but I've heard that DTD is horrible to transfer at and MK is so far out of the way....
for those of you catching up on my confusion.....
Option 1
HS EMH (AM )- early lunch 50's, AK afternoon and Boma 6:30 Dinner
That would mean the following day
MK EMH (AM )- Epcot afternoon and Le Cellier lunch 2:30
Option 2
HS EMH (AM )- afternoon Epcot and Le Cellier lunch 2:30
That would mean the following day
MK EMH (AM) - early lunch LTT, AK afternoon, Boma 6:30 dinner
If we went with option 2 , then we should be able to get bus from AKL to HS (they are open until 9, what time would last bus from resort run ) and then catch bus from HS to POP
Also, not sure now about some of the reviews on 50's but, I thought it would be more fun then LTT and really would enjoy the PB & J shake, fried chicken and desert( however at LTT would enjoy the fried cheese and sticky toffee pudding).
I'm glad you added the review of Mama Melrose. I was considering doing the F! package there since our son has not seen Fantasmic yet. But, I decided against it & think we will try Sci-Fi for the 1st time. Your review makes me happy about my decision. If we want to see Fantasmic, I think we'll just let the crazy line go in & then see if we can get seats (even if they're bad seats).
Hmmm....that's a hard decision.....I like both 50's & LTT. Remind me: if you choose option 2, does that put y'all doing Epcot two days in a row? Or is that with option 1?
You're welcome!

Option 2 would be Epcot two days in a row ( the prior day we have 740 ADR for Rose and Crown -for illuminations and it's an evening EMH at Epcot )
But if I go with Option 1 then I either suck up the money for a cab or have a crazy long trip back to POP after a long day
We also did the F! Pkg at MM during our recent trip March 4-9. I booked the 1st reservation of the day 12:00pm since I hate waiting to be seated. We checked in at 11:44am and the picture I took of our desserts was at 12:28pm, so very fast service. I think we were the 2nd or 3rd party to be seated. Our server was great and we enjoyed our meal, we both had the strip steak. At the start of the meal when the server gave us our menus he explained that we could choose an app and an entree but the dessert would be family style with the F! Pkg at this point he gave us our ticket for the VIP seating.
I can not for the life of me while sitting here now recall what DH and I ordered for apps but I do know we each shared part of the two desserts one was a chocolate cannelloni and I forget what the second one was but both were delicious and we were so stuffed at that point two of us could not even finish the desserts. I did notice that they charge the DP $34.99 pp instead of a la carte priceing so that must be the reason for the "family style" dessert with the F! Pkg.
chinarider - I agree with Amanda. As much as I like to utilize the free Disney transportation, I would rather the small expense of a cab than messing up your other plans.
sjs314 - I was glad to read your experience at MM. I think I was disappointed in the family style desserts because I didn't like the two they selected for us and my DH barely eats dessert. Also, because I didn't know that was the practice. If we ever do the dining plan, I think I would do the MM Fantasmic package again. Or if we're not doing Fantasmic, I wouldn't mind eating there out of pocket - I just know we'd order very different things.
I would definitely do MM again even if paying OOP I think it is not a bad deal at all for $34.99pp
With us having to wait to be seated or served can and usually does make or break our entire dining expierence, DH tends to get fed up and we end up leaving lots of times so what I try to do is make the ADR's for the 1st available time slot if we are eating at a very popular place, ie MM 12:00, Tony's 5:00 and that will usually assure we are seated and served before the restaurant begins to fall behind and get backed up.
I remembered what we had for our app, the antipasto for two which was to die for. I wish I had remembered to take pictures only pic I took was of the desserts
I have MM for 6 pm, hope it's not too bad. In regards to transportation and interfering with other plan ( returning from Boma ), it would just be back to the hotel so, we wouldnt really be in a hurry to get anywhere but,,just probably pretty tired (and hot).
So, after how many weeks or months of my DD17 saying she doesnt care about where we eat..... she decides to tell me that she doesnt want to eat at 50's PT!!!! UGH, I would have preferred that over Sci Fi
So, now, I cancelled 50's and reserved Sci Fi but, still not sure what day option we are going with so, I dont know if we will even be eating lunch at HS. I could just plan on some street food OOP and save the ressie for something else ( that is unless I go with the LTT lunch at MK and that would use it up)
I'm so confused and then if they extend the park hours for June, it will make things more confusing...
I would be real interested to see what you have chosen. I'm thinking next time I want to do deluxe and spend more days so that I can go to all the places I'm not able to visit this time.
