ADR / CC needed for ressie

It has been 5 years since our last visit, i am trying to book ressie for Dec and need a credit card # for certain places. Is this new ?? Just wondering why it is needed ... I am guessing to mke sure people show up since it is at popular places.

Newish - credit card numbers were required for Signatures and character meals starting in October 2011. They don't charge anything unless you're a "no show."

The pre-pay meals and dinner shows also require a credit card and take full payment at the time of booking.

The credit card is needed in case you don't show up for your ADR. If you do not cancel your ADR ahead of time (I believe it is 24 hours advance notice), your credit card will be charged $10 per person.
