ADR at Sci Fi - ordering just milkshakes

you can eat at sci fi by just paying for your meal. hope this helps. you dont have to be on dining plan. hope this helps.

very true. i'm just weighing our options to see what would work best for our family.when we picked our ressies, my kids decided on WCC,ohana and others in favor of sci fi. that said, they'd like sci fi if it works out so I'm trying to figure a way to make it work. but at $60+, scifi is no longer worth it for us.

If we spend $10 - $20 then it would be worth it just to sit for half an hour or so and enjoy it.

You could do it, but I think you should be prepared for the CM to try and rush you out of there. Especially if people are waiting for tables.

So no one has a problem if I take up an ADR at Le Cellier to just have the cheese soup and sip a drink for an extended period of time during prime time for dinner?

I don't. I see nothing wrong with going to any restaurant and ordering whatever you want and enjoying it.

We won't be doing this anymore, however, because they recently changed the shakes. They are no longer hand-dipped. They are made from some kind of soft ice milk stuff (like Dairy Queen only not nearly as tasty). It's a shame, really, but when did anyone ever report on these boards that food had improved, as opposed to declined? Certainly not since the advent of DDP.

For at least the past 11 years, Sci-Fi shakes have always come from a machine. They have not been hand dipped for at least that amount of time (and I am guessing they never were).

I used to be in the "that's inconsiderate" camp but as long as you don't spend an hour sipping your shakes, I have no problem with it. I don't think of Disney restaurants as any different than other places.

I do think it would be rude to other waiting patrons and your server, if you spent an hour + sitting there with shakes. But I have no problem with a quick visit.

We have went to ADRs before where DH would order and I wouldn't just because I wasn't really hungry. I'm not sure we would just order shakes, but any food order be it dessert or appetizers should be fine. We don't do the DDP anymore so that gives us more flexibility.

It would be a good idea if Sci-Fi had a bar wouldn't it? Lots of people talk about wanting to go here for the scenery.

Thinking about it further, I am recalling restaurants I've been to that require a minimum dollar order (perhaps at busy times). I think that if it became enough of an issue, Disney could certainly implement that requirement too.

I see nothing wrong with ordering a couple shakes. You are ordering something from their menu. Isn't that what a restaurant is for?

Nope no problem because this is not a food police nation.

You get to choose what you want to eat and where you want to eat. People go all the time to restaurants and just have drinks. Family restaurants have teenagers that just order coffee...it happens. Are you going to watch every patron around you at a restaurant and make sure they order enough food for you to find it acceptable that they occupy a table. What if they order a appy but water for drinks..the cost is comparable to shakes all around....

It is ridiculous that so many people feel the need to judge other people. WDW is supposed to be experience open to everybody at whatever spending level the individual has....

As my mom said ..Do not point your finger because there are 3 pointing back at you.

Since it is just DH and me, it fits for us perfect. Thanks to everyone for all the opinions. I am making ADR's at another restaurant for the same night for earlier that night at 6:00. Then we can head over to La Hacienda at 8:00 for dessert and a margarita. Sounds lovely! Thanks again!

La Hacienda does have a bar, so that is also an option. I don't see a problem with people ordering anything they want, as much or as little as they want at any WDW restaurant if they have an ADR. But, if a place has a bar, I tend to sit there if I'm not ordering a regular meal.

Sometimes I'll sit at the bar and order a meal there, too. I've had the fried chicken at the Tune In Lounge dining solo. It's pretty flexible.

I think of WDW restaurants overall differently than restaurants locally, because they are pretty much guaranteed a captive audience. I don't worry about the servers for that reason.

Closing this as it is basically now discussing how much to tip.

La Hacienda does have a bar

I don't believe it does.

There is a bar inside the pavilion, where San Angel Inn is, but La Hacienda doesn't have its own bar. If it did I'd be in there getting those mango basil blueberry margaritas. La Cava won't make them.
