ADP Live From Disney World & Universal Too!

Thanks for all the great reports. I have been so enjoying reading them, I feel like I am there too (except it is geting colder by the day here):cold: We havn't been to Universal in years, do you think it would appeal to DS 14 and DD 20 who love the wild rides at Disney? BTW, we had to ship a giant shark home a few years ago ~ good luck with the tiger!:disrocks:

Another great update! I am hoping to take DD to Universal in a few years, so it's nice to see how it's changed since our 2002 trip. We took the Hard Rock Cafe tour (it was only DH, myself and 2 other people) and really enjoyed it.

Love all the pics. That tiger on the bed cracked me up! :rotfl: Can't wait to hear what you end up doing with it.

sound like another fantastic trip. Thanks for the pics of Harry Potter. It now says 2010. That is a ways off. The tiger is gigantic. Good luck on the plane. LOL.

I want to stay at the Hard Rock now! I'm so jealous!

I'm late as usual but I just want to say thank you, I really enjoyed your report :thumbsup2 !

Okay so the burning question...did Anna get autographs from SpongeBob, Scooby and Shaggy? (Guess who's asking this one? Hint::cheer2: ) Also if you don't want the tiger I think Sarah will adopt it (she'll share custody with Hannah).

Tell Anna Sarah and Hannah said "hi" and "go eagles!"

It's changed a bit over the years from what I can tell. The Hard Rock Cafe here is huge; in fact, I think I heard someone say it's the largest in the world.

I'll have the final verdict on shipping the tiger tomorrow.

I certainly belive a 14 and 20 year old would love Universal. You should be fine.

Devouring your wonderful trip report Aaron! I've always done Disney in Orlando and I might have to change that fact! Good to see you are having a good time and can't wait to hear more!!

Thanks, glad you are enjoying it.

Autographs? Oh yes. Those and many more. Anna says hi back. She wants to know if Sarah is going to Open Gym on Saturday? :cheer2:

Anna says she'd be more than willing to lend it out a few nights in the future. :)

Thursday, Oct. 23rd

Hi Everyone,

We've just returned from our day at both parks. We picked some of our favorite attractions at both parks and decided to spend our day that way. Since both parks are so close to each other and they are walking distance using this strategy was no problem. We started our day at the Confisco Grill at Islands of Adventure where they have a character breakfast. We then started our park touring in Islands of Adventure and would eventually move on to Universal Studios.

Our day started with a nice walk along the path between the Hard Rock Hotel and City Walk. We entered Islands of Adventure at 9:00AM for our 9:15AM reservation at Confisco Grill's character breakfast. Confisco Grill is located in the Port of Entry at the front of the park. Here's a photo of the Port of Entry. As you can see the skies were a bit overcast this morning.

Characters who appeared today where Spiderman, Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2. Since this breakfast is not heavily attended you get a lot of character interaction time. I believe Spiderman spent 5 or more minutes with us at our table. All the characters do a great job. They each perform some sort of skit or comic routine to help you associate with them.

Here's a photo of Anna with thing 1 and Thing 2 from the Cat and the Hat series

The breakfast is a buffet where you go up and get what you would like. The food is basic breakfast fare with scrambled eggs, hash browns, etc with one exception. Today, they had green eggs and ham sandwiches. I tried one and now, I can honestly say, "I do not like green eggs and ham Sam I am, I do not like them at a character breakfast, or in a theme park Sam I am!" Yuck!

Here's a photo of the buffet line

Our service was a bit spotty considering the restaurant was not very busy. We didn't see our server very much. I waited for a refill of coffee for about 5 minutes, but other than that it was ok.

The total cost of our bill with tip and 10% annual pass discount was $52. Not expensive, but certainly not cheap either. I do believe with the amount of character interaction we received and the quality of the food it was worth it. This is the only character meal you will find in either of the two theme parks. I would suggest giving it a try; especially if you have Spiderman fans in your household.

After we finished breakfast we took a walk through Suess Landing. We hit a couple of attractions we wanted to try again.

Here's a photo of the entrance to Suess Landing

We worked our way to the Lost Continent where I snapped this photo. I've always found this structure interesting. I always wonder what people are thinking when they imagine something like this. I call this structure "the vometing water god"!

Attractions we experienced in both parks today were Suess Landing Trolly Ride, Cat and the Hat, Jurassic Park River Adventure, Ripsaw Falls (yes, we got wet), Spiderman, The Simpsons Ride, Men in Black, The Mummy and Jimmy Neutron's Blast.

We finished our park touring today at 4:30 and headed back to the Hard Rock Hotel. On the way back to our room I stopped in the club lounge and snapped this photo.

As I've previously mentioned the club lounge at the Hard Rock is rather small. It was crowded tonight for evening appatizers. In fact, there were no seats available when we came back later. We just took the food back to our room. Comparing this club level experience with the few others we've experienced I'd say this was probably the least appealing to us. Not to say it was bad, we just have experienced better. I still believe the Polynesian resort provided the best club experience for us overall.

As for the rest of this evening we plan on relaxing down by the pool. The pool here is great so we plan on taking advantage of it as much as possible. Tomorrow is our departure day. We have an evening flight out of Orlando so we still have the day ahead of us tomorrow; however, we will need to check-out before 10:00AM and store our luggage with the concierge before heading to the parks.

Here's a photo I took the other day looking across the lake at the Worlds largest Hard Rock Cafe. There is also a concert venue attached where Miss Elanis Morasette played this past Tuesday night.

I'll provide another update tomorrow. Thanks for following along! :)

Sounds like a very fun and relaxing trip! Is it just me or are you really spending more "down" time this trip - at the pool etc? Enjoy - it's chilly here!! They're saying possible flurries on Monday - welcome back. :rotfl:

Tell Anna Sarah and Hannah and a few others are going to open gym. :thumbsup2 And thanks for the offer to let the tiger have a sleep over (so I'm guessing he'll be coming home with you? totally off topic have you read "The Last Lecture?") but maybe we can just keep that between us.

Wait - are you coming home on Friday?? I think I just got that... I can't believe it, your trip is over. I'm sad - I've been having fun reading about yours since we're not going this fall break (I want to but Dave Ramsey says no. ) I hope you have great weather tomorrow.

How much walking have you been doing? Did you bring your pedometer?:yay:

You're making me want to go back to Universal and I was trying to hold out for Harry Potter! I'm so glad all of you are having a great time. :goodvibes

Glad to hear they are going to open gym. Anna will be happy!

Yea! We've had much more downtime than usual this trip. This front of the line or express line pass thing is wonderful. We breeze right through the parks and have the rest of the day to do other things like enjoying the hotel's amenities. It's really a fantastic perk! There were some ride wait times at 45 minutes today and we just breezed right past them and jumped on the attraction.

I didn't bring the pedometer this time because I figured we'd be doing less walking this trip, and I'm sure I was right; however, I've eaten about the same amount of food than normal on our trip. Not good! Back at it when we return. :)

You're making me want to go back to Universal and I was trying to hold out for Harry Potter! I'm so glad all of you are having a great time. :goodvibes

Hey Lisa. You need to give it a try; although I've heard Harry Potter will be revealed in early 2010; like January or February timeframe. That is unofficial though. If that is true we are only looking at 16 more months. As fast as time flies these days it will be here before you know it.

You will find things much more laid back here. It really is a change of pace from spending your time on Disney property. At Disney world you feel like you need to be at the parks when they open and plan a touring strategy. Here at Universal, none of that matters when you are staying onsite. It's really a "go as you please" mentality. A nice and relaxing feeling.

Love reading your report.... popcorn::

The pictures of "Suess Land" are wonderful !!! I'm a huge fan.

Sounds like you and your family are having a fantastic time.

I can't wait until my next magical trip.

Glad you guys had fun. I'm sitting here at home and I actually almost feel sorry for you leaving tomorrow!! How sick is that?!?

Hi Everyone,

We are getting ready to check-out of the Hard Rock Hotel. We've already visited the club lounge and had breakfast. We plan on heading into the parks today to catch a few more attractions. It did rain this morning, but it has stopped.

Even though we are checking out of the Hard Rock we are still allowed to use the hotel ammenities for the day. We also are still allowed to use the express pass access, so it will be nice to still be able to by-pass the lines.

I'll have another report with pictures either tonight or first thing tomorrow after we return home.

Can't wait to read the rest. popcorn:: Have a great last day. :thumbsup2

Wow, I would have loved to have gone to the Alanis Morissette concert!

i'm very impressed with the restaurant manager for offering the desserts to you as a token compensation...
that's indicative of good management...

i agree with Lisa, you're report is making me re-think our plans for visiting universal/ioa...
we're not big universal fans...we've been there twice...the second trip we did it onsite to get front of the line....

reading your report, i guess we'll give it another go..
but it probably will only be in time for harry potter...

i'll be in orlando in may, but DD, DS and DH won't be....we probably won't all make it together until 2010...is that when harry potter opens?...

anyway...i LOVE your report and pictures..

oh and thanks for the dessert pictures...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

that raspberry napolean looks wonderful....
but i don't care how big it is, i DON'T SHARE MY DESSERTS....you can have anything else you want off my plate - but heaven help you if you touch my dessert..
