Adoption Updates

Hi ZachnEll! Good to hear from you!
Thanks for the congrats MrsToad. You are so right, she's already almost 3 months and it's just flown by!

I figured out how to get her picture to post, but I can't get it to not be HUGE! I'll keep working on it!!

Congratulations, Emily! It's such an exciting time and it doesn't seem to get any less exciting as they get older.

Our kids were 5 and 6 when we adopted them and I'd find myself staring at them for hours, too, even at their pictures when I wasn't with them. It's just amazing and surreal to have your dream of motherhood finally realized. Don't you just want to take in every square inch of your little bundle?

I can't wait to see Joey's picture. (I love that nickname for her!)

Here's my angel, Joey!!

That's a pretty tiny picture! But she sure does look cute - what a big smile! Congratulations to you and to Ashley as well. Kiara is beautiful :)

Ok I fixed it! She's not teeny! Pretty cute, huh?
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Does anyone have any information on Korean adoptions???

ETA: Ashley...she's adorable!!!

What would you like to know? We are currently waiting for our son to come home from Korea. The process is undergoing some changes in 2007. There are only certain agencies that are able to place Korean children in each state. The costs vary but a ball park average is 20K to 26K. Some of the agencies have weight restrictions for parents, some do not. Children get wonderful medical care and are placed with loving foster families when ever possible. Our son's medical history was very detailed. Our agency escorts children to the US, some agencies allow you to go to Korea to get your child. The adoptions are finalized in the US. No dossier is required. More boys are available than girls. If you have no children already, you do not have the option of asking for a specific sex.
Hope this helps, if you have more questions let me know!

Thank you everyone for the compliments on how cute Kiara is. :thumbsup2 Joey is very cute, too!

The first half of our documents are in transit to Guatemala as we speak. We received some bad news this morning pertaining to one of our documents. I honestly just felt like crying. We have to redo our 1040's.. which is just another headache. I am hoping by the grace of God that it can be authenticated by the end of the week, but I don't know if that will be possible. :badpc:

Emily, she is absolutely adorable! Look how happy she is!!

Thank you for the info!! We had hit a temporary roadblock with China, but have worked through it and we're back on the China track..for now! We do plan to adopt again, however, and we hope to adopt a son from Korea! But that will be a little bit further down the road...:)

I'm so excited...my mom managed to find a doll that I have looked EVERYWHERE for!! I wanted the Disney My Baby Princess Mulan doll. I've looked in every toy store...toy department...was resolved to buying it on ebay, but because she is so rare, everyone is charging an arm and a leg for her. My mom found her at WalMart last night!!! Woo Hoo!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Update on Kiara:

We had a very surprising email arrive to us yesterday morning. The attorney scheduled KiKi's DNA test for yesterday. Considering only half of my paperwork went to Guatemala on the 8th of September, this is unusually fast. Who am I to complain? I did ask my case manager if she was SURE it was our baby getting DNA done because I just did not believe it would happen that fast! Our other papers are being translated and then we are heading into Family Court. I'm estimating this, the social worker interview, and pre-approval to be the next 8+ weeks, if not longer! We'll see.... :goodvibes

I'm so heartbroken. I have been waiting for LabCorp to charge us for the DNA test. It was not taken out today, and so I finally had to get in touch with them and see what was going on, and if the test was performed. The woman who runs our agency is out of the office, and the best, one of the office girls could tell was that she got our names confused with another family. I am tired of hearing family and friends say "well its ok, it will get done" .. I KNOW it will be "ok" but at the same time I am extremely upset about this, and now we are back to waiting 4-6 wks for DNA to be done.

We received our I-171 in the mail today! Yeah. Now that the I-600A is approved the I-600 should move fairly quickly. Our scoial worker said our Alex should be home before Christmas!!!! What an excellent gift that would be!!

Well that just stinks. The employees sometimes forget that it is their job but it is YOUR LIFE!

You've seen first hand how high the highs can get and how low the lows can go. Adoption is definitely a rollercoaster ride.

That's such great news, Jen! I hope that everything continues to flow smoothly for you!

Our adopted DD is now 12 years old. I saw her for the first time when she was a day old. She's more beautiful with each passing day! 2 sons. The "labor" for DD was 6months long. It's such a roller coaster from meeting w/the lawyer to the home study to the birth and waiting the first week to see if the birth mom would change her mind.
All of you waiting for your babies are in my prayers. You have no idea what a miracle is until you hold the baby for the first time.

Gosh...we are soooooooooooooooooo close to being able to officially start our own roller coaster...it's just about killing me!! We should have everything in place, possibly as soon as next month!! If not, then we should be ready to go as of November!!!! I'm about going stir crazy...we've been saving for the last year and I just can't wait to get started!

I can't remember who else is doing China...anyone in the last batch of referrals?

I am waiting for a referral from China--our LID is 4/3, so we still have a ways to go............maybe a year more.............what a rollercoaster ride for all of us! But the end result will be worth the emotions we are going through now!

Best of luck to everyone!! Our babies will be in our arms soon, I just keep telling myself that!

We are still waiting as well. We just got back from Disney and were so excited to see on the CCAA websight that December is out of the review room so we are in the review room now with a LID of 1-17. We still have a long way to go but it seems to be getting closer finally!

Wow such beautiful babies!

It seems like there are a lot of screw-ups with Guatemala and lab tests. Not that I'm blaming Guatemala, it seems so complicated, and there are a lot of places for mistakes. We had an entire Guatemala dossier ready to go (minus the 171) when we decided we should go to Kazakhstan. Long story.

Scarlett- glad to hear you're good to go!

Our update: dossier is officially in translation in Kaz. Then back to the US to the Kaz embassy, then back to Kaz and through the ministry offices. Hopefully we'll travel in spring.

Julie

Hi everyone! I have spent portions of the last 3 days pouring over the internet about adoption and reading this thread. I have cried with you and rejoiced with you. :goodvibes

I'm here because I do need support and encouragement because I'm scared to death my prayers will not be answered.

A little background on me:
My DH and I have been married for 19 yrs and have 2 DSs, 17 and 15. After I had son #2 I had a tubal ligation because ever since I can remember I had a motto of no child after 25 because I want to enjoy the rest of my life child free once I completed raising the 2 I chose to have. In '00, out of necessity, I had a thermal eblation, permanently closing the door on biological motherhood. I also have told my DSs that once they were grown, I would leave this area because it is not my home. In the last 2-3 years though, with the onset of middle age, the ending of my DSs at home time, I have been regretting never have had a daughter. Two months ago a girlfriend at work showed me several websites she and her DH have been frequenting trying to find a son to be a brother to their biological son and she is in her mid 40s. We spent alot of time talking about the issue of age and having a family this late in our lives.

Long story short, I really do regret not ever attempting to have a daughter. My DH and I love children and I know we continue to have alot of love left to give despite our ages.

We have talked and talked and decided that we will try to adopt. We are scared that as much as we want our prayers to be answered, we will not find a beautiful one to spoil and love. I'm a critical care nurse and my DH sees the beauty in everything, so a child with special needs would brighten our home and lives as much as a healthy baby/toddler.

Please remember us as we embark on this journey. :grouphug: I have been looking at children from Latin America, Mexico, Central America but am not completely ruling out domestic.

If we are blessed with a little one from our desired international country, then I would love for her name to be: Deisaree (pronounced Dez-a-ree) Aimee (Ah-me), meaning long hoped for and desired, joyful; maybe God will answer this plea. :cloud9:

Thanks for listening!

Debbie
